i so badly want to know literally anything about the soothsayer song iirc i think it's the only song we know exists and at what point in the show (after caesar speaks and before cassius' song) but haven't heard anything of at all and it's KILLING me I WANT TO KNOW!!!

So I Just realized Something That Explains Chloe Even More for the Newest Movie...

People bring up how Red and Chloe only knew each other for a day, I have too, but you know what else was only a day ago?

Chloe peering into the looking glass and seeing confirmation that her mom was offed, gone, forever. Not only that but her dad, who from what we can see is such a fun and silly kind of parent, fall apart crying and shouting in grief while The Queen of Hearts-Red's Mom- watches and laughs with all the glee in the world.

Now cut to the next day and her mom is alive, but she's different. She's suddenly putting pressure on her to be a Perfect Princess, when even before Chloe had learned about her mother Cinderella didn't seem to be the type of parent to pressure her at all.

She and Charming seemed to simply be doting, loving parents that guided her protected her from the harshness of the world, but never pressure her. They seemed pretty easy going parents from what little we have of them is Rise of Red. They wanted her to have a wonderful life without worry which a lot of parents who have grown up in hardships want for their children.

Now her mom suddenly seems different, a change of not just who her mom was when she was younger but the mom she knew before. It suddenly doesn't feel like that's her mom anymore because from how Chloe's acting Cinderella must not have been someone to pressure rules or her at all. To not push for her to be perfect, to be a proper princess who follows rules to a tee. (And I admit they did not give enough time to really emphasize this but it seems what they were going for here)

Like, add on the trauma of essentially having her mom being ripped away by guards and seeing after she had left that her mom was gone only to come back to her mom being different?

Her trying to help the gang with what she knows and nothing working and her beginning to feel as if everyone just sees her as a tag along, a nuisance?

And then add in the thing that really breaks Chloe from Red throwing her towards the flower in a moment of desperation to win the match and save everyone... and her not even check on her or apologize but instead celebrates?

That Red after her best friend had seen Chloe was upset and she knows it decides to go on a magical romantic stroll with Luis instead? (I'll admit Chloe needed to be more clear but when you're hurting sometimes it hurts more when someone you care about doesn't understand why you are when you feel like they should. You're brain don't work when your emotional sometimes)

That when Red does come back and they finally hash it out it call comes to a head with Red not only essentially doubling down how she's been treating her and basically saying "Yes, you are just a tag along goodie, goodie, you're not adding anything to the team." When she's been pushing for everyone to act like villains, basically saying she's been a hinderance?

No wonder girl was drowning...

(By the way this isn't be bashing Red when I write this. Red was going through a lot too and when they hashed out their problems to each other it was miscommunication and hurt that made them say the worst things towards the other. Sometimes when you're hurt by someone you love in the heat of an argument you say something back because you want to hurt them back. It's not nice at all no, but let's not forget these two went through a lot and going through a lot .

In the end both girls were in the right and wrong in their situation and in the end Red and Chloe reached lows that helped the other see what they meant and are now closer than before.)

Chloe and Max kinda give Brutus and a Cassius vibes (but platonic)

I think I'm starting to have the problem I have with one piece with the new Descendants movies. I feel like y'all are forcing Max and Chloe into this mature adult role when they're in fact teenagers going through it.

Like Max found out that he could have had a loving father and didnt grow up on the isle (which is literally meant to represent poverty. So from his point of view of course he’s going to be mad at Red for stealing this better life (and he only knows so much about the time travel so he doesn’t know about the coup or the exact reasons of the time travel.)

Chloe to had her whole worldview flipped. She watched her mother get’s sent to be beheaded, watched her father plead for her, had to recontextualize everything that’s been taught to her, with who her mother was, is, and how she changed into again. Also with being ignored by the only person that understands, all in what maybe a week? Also the bracelet obviously only enhanced everything going on.

Like it’s understandable why this happens, was it right? No, but the these are teenagers going through trauma they shouldn’t have to deal with and this goes with Red to.

Honestly the Chloe Charming and Elphaba Thropp parallels kinda kill me.

It’s the way they start off their stories with such a hard stance of morality of good and evil and realize in the end what’s the point. Only to be saved by their gay situationship.

“Why did Chloe go evil over somebody she knew for like four days”

So actually Chloe became evil because Max manipulated her emotions and used a moment of vulnerability to put a spell on her that made her evil. You literally see her struggling against the spell when Red talks her out of suing the pocketwatch.

Also, it wasn’t like Chloe was only upset about Red. She was feeling the consequences of what they did and how her mom (to her) did nothing to help the Queen of hearts. She was already struggling, the Red stuff on top of it just didn’t help.

Favorite part of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar is the canonical take of Caesar having epilepsy

..and Cassius making that into a metaphor and Casca just going “I don’t get it”

before we begin, i would like to say a lot of this analysis is very interpretation based: unlike most of my other caesar analysis posts, which are usually strictly lyric-based, this will depend heavily on my interpretation of the lyrics and how they were said. probably not the best way to do an analysis, but oh well. this also means that your interpretation of the lyrics / how they were said will likely differ from mine, which is totally fine, im not trying to say that mine is the only / best interpretation, just trying to explain it :) and finally, a lot of this analysis is probably not going to stand the test of time, given a lot of the songs mentioned are still (from my interpretation) still under construction.

and with those hefty disclaimers out of the way, i present you:

brutus’ suicidal ideation and how it can be traced back to brutus’ prayer (catchy title i know)

one thing that brutus makes very clear to us in this song is that he does not want to kill caesar, and, in fact, he only manages to justify it by convincing himself that it’s what his dad would have wanted. during his whole spiel, though, there’s one lyric that really stands out:

“the story seems to always write itself” is spoken softly, almost remorsefully, but it’s really the “kill the snake” that gets me. i’ve said this before, but i think that snake is truly such an interesting word to use, considering its strong connotation denoting treachery and whatnot. brutus, of course, knows that he, too, is a traitor, which is why i think that this hints at brutus’ desire to be. well. killed? it’s been pointed out to me that this isn’t original to the musical and in fact came from the shakespeare play, but i don’t necessarily think that that’s contrary to my point, it could equally mean that shakespeare’s brutus and yurchuk’s brutus have similar feelings in the matter.

and then, of course, there’s conspirators’ song, in which brutus says that, were he to swear an oath to kill caesar, it would be on his life. not his honour (which we know he’s willing to swear on; in brutus’ prayer, he does just that: “anyone could see that caesar was my friend / and on my honour, i miss the man i knew”), his life, which imo implies that he holds his life in much lower regard than his honour (bc he initially rejects taking the oath at all)

obsessed to an unhealthy degree with winterbunny brutus/caesar dynamic. caesar's 'real' (greek) last words serving as a curse that foreshadows brutus's suicide at the battle of philippi. "Not that I loved Caesar less but that I loved Rome more." something about how his death is necessary and you must do it but it doesn't make it hurt any less. something about when you kill him, you doom yourself as well. im normal about them

This is a weird parallel but in Caesar speaks, Ceaser talks to Brutus how we can change the tide but in Storm song it’s kinda the opposite in that we can’t change what’s happening (“you can't escape it, Can't delay it, no point racing rain clouds”)

Cassius line 'what makes me so different?' in Shall Rome and the fact that the actress (Savy Jackson) is a Black woman adds a lot to the line to be honest.

It’s so interesting that in Julius Caesar most of the main characters all share the same fatal flaw or trait that is naivety.

For example the most prime example is Mark Antony who has this childlike wonder of the world and while he gets more cautious, and he keeps this idolized version of Caesar throughout. We see that it comes up again in Mark Antony and Cleopatra which leads to his eventual downfall.

Next we have Caesar who ignores all the warning signs of his own assassination, ignoring the warning about the ides and Calpurnia, and ignores Brutus pleas about the changing times. Which again leads to his downfall.

We also have Brutus himself, which firstly he falls for the letters from the conspirators and then later ignores Cassius warnings about Mark Antony, which again leads to Mark Antony.

Lastly we have the Conspirators and the people of Rome who constantly go between the people who have the most sway, rather that be Caesar, Cassius, Brutus, and Mark Antony or even Pompey. For example Brutus sways the conspirators to not kill Mark Antony after Cassius suggests it, Cassius sways the Conspirators to kill Caesar and mark antony before Brutus puts a stop to it. We see how Caesar is being praised at the beginning and after Brutus speech ridiculed, Pompey we know used to be praised and now his death is being celebrated, mark Antony sways the public after Brutus speech and they then go on a death march basically ending the republic.

The only character we do not see this really in (though he does have his moments) is Cassius himself. For all his faults he does accurately identify the outcome of the situation (Caesar,mark Antony, the war and it’s end, and his fate)
