Italian Sloppy Joes 5 min. prep time; 25 min. cook time 1 lb. ground mild Italian sausage 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/2 medium yellow onion, diced 4 cloves garlic, minced 1 red bell pepper, seeded, diced 1 14½-oz. can diced tomatoes 1 cup tomato sauce 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1 teaspoon fennel seeds 1/4 teaspoon sugar Salt and pepper 4 pub buns or hamburger buns 4 slices smoked provolone In a pan over medium heat, brown sausage; remove; drain Add oil to pan; saute onion, garlic and red pepper for 1 min. until fragrant; add sausage, tomatoes, sauce, oregano, fennel and sugar; mix well; bring to a boil Reduce heat to medium low; cook for 20 min. until sauce thickens; season salt and pepper Spoon mixture over bottom buns; add cheese; broil just until cheese melts
