Just a heads up, i'm thinking about changing my pfp.
Not sure to what yet, but after 3 years, i'm either thinking about switching back to the one before this st inspired one or maybe making a completely new one.
It is still just a thought, not sure-fire, but if it happens to change at some point in the near future, don't be too surprised.
I ran into this post years ago and to be honest, it has completely reoriented the way I engage with food.
Like. I’ve always sorta understood that things grow moldy or stale or sour or such if left out, but I never really internalized it in a meaningful way.
But now I’m just like.
Yeah. The hungering dust. There exists omnivorous dust in the air that will eat my food if I don’t.
Those bagels have been sitting there for a week. Are we going to eat them soon or are we leaving them for the hungering dust?
Pizza’s been sitting out on the counter for an hour. Everyone’s enjoying the pizza, but if we don’t want “everyone” to include the hungering dust then we should probably put it away soon.
That’s just. That’s how food works to me now. There exists an invisible predator in the air that hungers for your yummies, and it will not hesitate to eat your food if you don’t make the effort to protect and preserve it. And eat what can’t be preserved before the dust can.
I'm not sure how interested anyone would be in this but i have some progress pictures.
I'll later going to make another reblog breaking down the entire piece about what was the though process behind it, because there were a couple of people in the tags who said they might be interested in it.
I just need a day or so, because i'm in the middle of writing a study for a publication and a larger paper for uni, but i'll do it after i'm finished with those.
So.
On the photos and the initial scan the colours are more pink and vibrant. That is due to my very yellow lamp that shifts every colour in every photo i take under it.
My only qualm about the whole process is that i started on 110gsm paper so i had to be very selective and careful how many layers of colour i can work with and how much i can actually soak the paper because 110 is very far from the recommended 200gsm for watercolours.
It worked out. But It had to be put under weights a couple of times to prevent excessive curling up at the edges but all in all, i would not recommend 110 paper watercolours.
It's not a terribly complicated thing, I had a semi detailed sketch with H pencils. The sky was pretty fast and straightforward watercolours. The black is Posca pen.
The red dripping down from the moon is made with a ballpoint pen because i like the red colour the most out of all the red stuff i have.
The white bits are a mix between Posca pens, gel pens, watercolours and guache.
Everything else is watercolours. For watercolours it is either Sai pens (not directly onto the paper, but on a palette using brushes to actually paint, or i have little watercolour "chips" on small A7 cards.
And this was the first time doing a test scan to see how much the colours get boosted by the scanner vs the final, colour corrected version:
So it is not exactly a complicated piece, there is just a lot going on and looks more detailed than it actually is, i guess.
After scanning i did very basic colour correction so it isn't as pink as the photos or the scanner makes it out to be, because as i mentioned the true colours are closer to the final version. The pink vibrancy is due to my very yellow lamp, my phone being an older, not exactly high end piece of machinery and my scanner is a cheap ass thing that is not true to colour.
people who learned about greek mythology due reasons that DONT involve having read percy jackson at 12 freak me out, like what the FUCK was going on in your life that you found out that zeus turned into a pigeon to woo his wife like HOW
in all reality Pretty Boy could potentially be swapped out for Whenever You're Ready and Whatever Alright could probably be swapped with Melanchronic and the general artist make up would remain the same lol
At the moment but as per usual in a week it might be completely different.
No pressure tags: @takemetoasgard @moonchild-in-blue @insane-catlady @tonguetyd @fivewholeminutes and anyone and everyone who'd like to share some tunes! 🫶
The trailmix is a stand in for a pack of almonds. Sadly the options were limited so i couldn't add my usual roll of gaffer tape and or duct tape, textile shopping bag, smaller plastic bags, set of gloves, baseball cap, extra scarf, measuring tape, extra knife, tissues, roll of bandage, etc. And no, i am not doing the haha-funny-kinda-sus-kit, i just like to be prepared.
Tagging but no pressure as usual, especially if you have been tagged previously, i've been slow with this one: @fivewholeminutes @moonchild-in-blue @melit0n @takemetoasgard @pandas-hdd and anyone and everyone who'd like to join in!
