There’s this gorgeous imp on the AH, sable/sanguine/sanguine python/morph/glimmer. They’re listed for 500g which technically I could afford but I want to save my gems for my gene changing projects. By doing some fun exploration around, I can give you all a few little interesting tidbits! Going this far back in FR’s history feels like a rabbit hole. I don’t want anybody pinging these users that I mention though- some have been gone for a very long time, and I don’t know what the response to contact would be. All of this info can be found via the Wayback Machine by using the front page’s URL
The Tidelord’s REAL name is Rhenik, and the User Rhenik exists on the site, suggesting that the user is one of the original 11 people selected to Roleplay as the Tidelord.
Flight Rising has had users since 2012! Any active Users who’s join date is listed as FR’s public opening day back in June 2013 has probably been around since 2012, but the site doesn’t list the dates past June 2013 for some reason… These users are by definition the VERY first users, and are the Alpha Testers of FR. I’ve looked a few up, and I’m pleasantly surprised to see a good number knocking around! Hello Ancient Ones, you know who you are~
Flight Rising has obviously done a lot to ensure that any activity before June 2013 was kept a lil under wraps! Before then, the website was mainly just building things and having Alpha testers do their work with not a lot to see. The EARLIEST date I can find Flight Rising activity that’s not a simple placeholder test like you see above is August 14th, 2012. There were posts made by “Tidelord Rhenik” beforehand, but there is no date provided and the posts are hidden.
It’s well-known that FR was running in 2012, but I had no idea it was going to such an extent that it’s literally called “Alpha”. Alpha Flight Rising was running POSSIBLY as early as June 2012, with the site existing since 2008

Ok so full disclosure, April Fool’s is one of those holidays that I usually get salty about, because most people’s “pranks” just consist of lying about something kind of plausible and then seeing how long they can string their victim along getting them to believe it, which run from embarrassing to genuinely distressing, and I find those mean-spirited and not funny. Even when they’re not directed at me, the secondhand embarrassment and chagrin is really uncomfortable.
But FR’s April Fool’s jokes have been consistently pure and silly and harmless and fun every single year. The mysterious hats we pulled rabbits out of, the goofy sweaters, the googly eyes on all our dragons, and the beautiful HD revamp whose art is so amazing I don’t even have words to describe it properly. I love this year’s joke. It’s been a lot of fun to go through my lair and see all my aesthetic choices pared down so simply, and to see which dragons I can still easily recognize and which ones are more defined by their apparel or accents.
And on top of that, we have the ongoing surprise presents from Marva every year, which the staff has gone out of their way to make as accommodating and no-stress as possible. We were able to switch at leisure between the different colors, when you opened a chest you got the item out of it and still kept the depleted chest too in case you’re a collector who liked the original image, and even after April Fool’s you can still collect the whole set because Pinkerton and regular chests have a chance to give them out.
Basically I am just incredibly grateful to the FR staff for taking a holiday that I generally find kind of stressful and shitty, and making it genuinely fun.
