For those wondering about the fox. Grace has a subtle motif with this animal throughout the movie, but especially this shot where they pack this toy fox with his belongings on the Hail Mary. Bill Seacaster is such a great example of how parents can 100% love their children, try hard to correct the mistakes of their own childhood, and still fuck then up.

Bill Seacaster loves his son. He’d die for his son, he’d erase his name for his son, he wants his son to have only happiness and good things.

Fabian Seacaster struggles with a deep seated fear of failure coupled with the belief his father’s love is conditional on his success according to his father’s terms.

I see it so clearly: Bill Seacaster thought that his pronouncements of a grand future for Fabian were teaching Fabian his dad had an unwavering belief in Fabian’s inherent worth. Fabian heard that he had to succeed at everything or he’d fail and lose that support.
