could some of those posts be tagged as guilt trip posts? they're worded like blaming people for not having heard of it happen at all (these posts were the first I'd heard of this event taking place)
I dont really see it, but I'll tag them.
Okay new rule:
If you’re not going to talk about the fact that fifty people with disabilities were just stabbed by a man who wants the disabled to ‘disappear’ then you are not allowed to call yourself a disability advocate.
I don’t care how many ramps you want to put in. I don’t care how many words you want us to stop saying. I don’t care how many people with disabilities you know. If you’re not going to talk about the fact that people are killing us every single day, if you’re not going to give our deaths the same amount of attention that you do for other minority groups, you are not a disability advocate and you never were.
“No clear motive for the crime, but [extremely clear and explicit oppressive motive]”
There are only two people on my Facebook who have posted anything about the fact that over fifty people with disabilities were stabbed in Japan.
And to be fair, those two people are in the disabled community.
I’ve seen three tumblr posts about it.
And to be fair, those three bloggers are in the disabled community.
No political speeches about how this is a hate crime, no flags at half-staff, no big posts about how we should all stand in solidarity, no hashtags, nothing.
In a few days, the abled community will forget about it, if they haven’t already.
Fifty people with disabilities are stabbed by someone who thinks that all disabled people should disappear and the world just goes on turning.
I mean I know we’re all expendable to you people but come on.
At least pretend to care.
I have no more words anymore. One of the worst attacks and mass murders committed in Japan, and it was committed against the disabled.
Everyone just wants us dead. To vanish. Anywhere we are. Even the people who are hired to help take care of us. Even our families. Anywhere in the world it seems.
My heart however goes out to the people in Japan who will be suffering, and living in fear. Disabled people who will be afraid of leaving their houses. Of people who will be grieving so much.
non-autistic “allies” come in two flavors:
“you’re a sub-human broken monster and for your own good we have to do this”
or
“it’s ok sweaty we still support you even if you are a broken freak :) we care about you a lot :)”
Dear parents and guardians, please do not treat your child’s disability, illness, or neurotype as leverage in arguments against teachers. No matter how horrible the teachers may be, and no matter how much we need those accommodations, when you are ableist towards us at home is when your true colors show. You don’t feel good about helping us, and you are not concerned about our well-being, but instead only care about one-upping teachers, only are appalled by our being treated wrongly because I’m on your team. It hurts just the same as if you weren’t our benefactors in public. You should not be using us as an accessory to your egocentricity.
I’ve just been informed that the police officer who shot Charles Kinsey was actually aiming for his autistic patient. Now, I’m not trying to distract from the fact that POC are victims of police brutality far too often, but I would like to point out that a startling number of people on the autism spectrum face police brutality every year, too.
For example, Kayden Clarke, a trans man with Aspergers, was shot by cops sent to check on his wellbeing: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/kayden-clarke-shot-killed-police_us_56b61661e4b04f9b57d9d07e
In 2013, an unnamed, nonverbal, autistic 11-year-old girl was Tased by Oregon State Police for not responding to questioning: http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/06/21/2198631/oregon-police-tase-autistic-11-year-old-walking-along-the-highway/
Los Angeles police shot and killed autistic Mohammad Chaudry in 2008, and may have planted a knife on his body to justify it: http://www.care2.com/causes/family-of-autistic-man-kileed-by-police.html
Steven Washington was also fatally shot by the LAPD in 2010 when his stimming was mistaken for drawing a weapon: http://www.care2.com/causes/2-lapd-officers-not-justified-in-fatal-shooting-of-autistic-man.html
The London Metropolitan Police used excessive force on an autistic teen in 2012 who was refusing to get out of a pool, causing him to develop moderate PTSD: http://www.care2.com/causes/autistic-teenager-handcuffed-after-jumping-in-pool.html
In 2011, Toronto Police handcuffed a scared 9-year-old having a meltdown: http://www.care2.com/causes/toronto-police-defend-handcuffing-boy-with-aspergers.html
…….I could go on, but I think you get the (extremely ableist) picture. Police need to be trained to handle people with disabilities. As an autistic person, I should not have to be scared that if I have a meltdown in public, I could be shot because police think I’m a threat.
Dear tumblr
STFU. Sometimes people have crutches. My mom has anxiety, OCD, and a couple other things. There are times when I have to yank something from her hand because she’s having an anxiety attack and she’s just fiddling with an object to make herself feel better instead of addressing the problem. I’ve hidden cleaning tools so she would stop cleaning because she would clean instead of dealing with it. I’ve broken the printer so she would stop printing useless documents to help soothe her anxiety instead of having faith (that last one was because she was making me run out of ink).
I’m a behavioral therapist for kids with autism. I constantly have to take items away from kids. Lots of reasons for this, one of them is because they’re “stimming” with it.
My friend has a little brother who is a paraplegic. The little brother hides inside his hood and hides away from people. My friend had to cut the hood from his sweatshirts and bought him clothes he couldn’t hide in.
Are you seeing my point? That tablet Peridot had wasn’t a unique item, it isn’t like a wheelchair. It’s an item she’s using to avoid her issues and not face them. She was hiding behind it, like my mom, like my clients, like my friend’s little brother.
Stop bitching.
As someone who has had to do what Amethyst did, shut the fuck up! It’s not easy doing what needs to be done. I will say Ame kind of was harsh but in my line of work, you need to be harsh. You need to lay down the law. Ame did what peridot needed her to do.
There’s a reason why the Steven Universe fandom is the shittiest one out there. Most of y'all ain’t black, ain’t LGBTQ+. y'all ain’t disabled or someone who has to help the disabled.
Stop speaking for those of us who are.
You are not helping.
You are all insulting my mom by talking about disabilities.
Shut up.
Stop and think about it for one goddamned minute that maybe- just maybe- things are a little more complicated than you think. Maybe you don’t know everything. Maybe you’re reading too far into things.
Or maybe this is all just a waste of time and I should delete this account…
I’m going to go hug my mom now, peace out, gems.
petition to erase my memory of ever having read this post.
This is why so many people diagnosed autistic as children become adults diagnosed as autistic with PTSD.
well this is literally the most disgusting post I’ve ever read, OP should stay the fuck away from all disabled people forever tbh
op needs to lose their medical license asap
This is honestly the most disgusting thing I have ever read instead of helping your mom you took away her forms of dealing with anxiety
Like seriously what the fuck is wrong with your mom fiddling with something while she’s having a panic attack? Is she hurting herself? Is she breaking something important?? Why can’t she make herself feel better AND THEN address the problem who are you to decide this?
Holy shit you honestly take things away from children because they are doing something completely harmless that helps them stay calm you don’t give a shit about those kids I bet you just want them to pretend they aren’t Autistic
Holy shit your entire mentality is that disabled people should not be allowed have things that comfort them or make them feel better and if they do have those things then their just avoiding their problems because apparently you can’t do both and finding completely normal harmless ways to cope with your problems is fucking wrong what the hell is wrong with you
No we won’t shut the fuck up because you know what we'r TIRED TIRED OF SHIT HOLES LIKE YOU SPEAKING OVER US AND SHAMING US FOR THINGS THAT HURT NO ONE AND TREATING US LIKE SHIT FOR SHOWING SIGNS OF OUR ANXIETY OR AUTISM we have more right to talk about this shit then you will ever have because unlike you we live through this shit every day s d well have to live through this shirt everyday and no amount of cutting up hoodies and snatching stims away from children will EVER change that
And no you don’t have to be harsh you can be kind you can be understanding towards the people you work with but instead you CHOOSE to be harsh because honestly it sounds like you fucking hate us
Hello I’m an autistic anxiety ridden lgbta person and I can firmly say YOUR the reason this fandom is full of shit and you have NO RIGHT to claim most of this fandom isn’t disabled or lgbta because you decided they weren’t because you decided you didn’t like what they said honestly it really just sounds like you fucking hate us and hate us talking about our experiences
Lmfao hear that folks we have no right to talk about our own disabilities no ones insulting your fucking mom because they say shit you don’t like that goes against your though love bullshit
Why don’t you follow your own fucking advice you don’t understand everything you don’t know anything and as far as I can tell you fucking hate us and don’t actually care about what helps us so you just go right back to snatching stims from children and your mom and leave the rest of us tf alone j
Honestly, I'm tired of being scared to say I hate school out of fear of backlash. Like, here are some things I've gone through as an ND person in school, some aren't even because of the shitty education system: -Failing classes because I can't understand the subject because of autism, but can't ask for help because of anxiety -Students literally treating me like a toy to experiment with, or to poke around with -Not being able to pay attention, no matter how desperately I want to -Having to go buy the same standards of neurotypical students, which sometimes look like somebody copied my symptoms and wrote down the opposite -Getting the same amount of scolding for every action, no matter what it is -If there's a misunderstanding, I'm not getting out of it, no exeptions -Teachers that didn't treat me unfairly treating me like their lapdog, and then getting pissy the second I don't fit their innocent pet standards -People focused on "how cute I am", which isn't a bad thing, but it's a problem when it's impossible to be taken seriously (I get brushed off by other students in every class debate)
maybe the real autism was the peers we were rejected by along the way
Neurotypical person: *is stressed* Me: Ok, but have you considered *hands stim toy* Neurotypical person: …? Me: :D?
it is really, really important that you contact your senators and tell them to oppose the murphy bill/hr2646
if it passes it will
- weaken the privacy of mentally ill people and strip us of our HIPAA rights. it explicitly allows doctors to “disclose the protected health information of a patient with a mental illness” to family members in situations where “the patient does not consent and the patient is not incapacitated or in an emergency circumstance”. of course, adults should have a right to privacy even if their parents are great, but keep in mind that this will result in people’s private medical information being disclosed to their abusive family members. that’s scary.
and
- require states to pass laws allowing “Assisted Outpatient Treatment” (also called “Assertive Community Treatment”) to get mental health grants. that sounds good- I mean, “assist” means “help”- but in this case “assisted” means “forced”. “Assisted Outpatient Treatment” allows people to be forced to take meds and accept other forms of treatment even when they are not deemed a danger to themselves or others. I have been forced to take medication that damaged my physical and mental health by doctors who wouldn’t listen to me. so have many other people I know. this is terrifying.
I am scared. my friends are scared. a bunch of people are saying they will be too scared to try and access mental health services if this passes. this has already passed the house, and if we don’t do anything it will also pass the senate. but there’s good news: this bill has not had a lot of media coverage, which means that your voice really matters.
please contact your senators. email them. more effective, write them. even more effective, call them (info on how to contact them) (info on what to say). spread the word on social media. tell your friends. arrange a calling party. do whatever you can. this is important. we can do this.
Hey guys! Are you in need of something to calm you down from a stressful day, or anxiety?
Try watching a live stream of jellyfish! The music is really calming.
(At least to me)
Anxiety meds: *actually work, can be taken as needed*
Me: *goes a full week without taking any*
Ok new appointment tem
