Okay, I figured out why Vickie's absence from the epilogue bothers me.

It's that we've already seen Will's queer love go unrequited, and get written off as just a high school crush. Mike is not Will's Tammy, and Vickie isn't Robin's. Vickie is the first person to not just see Robin's queerness, but to love her queernees, and share in it with her. She is the happiness Robin earns after she learns to accept herself and live unabashedly as herself, yet we don't see their happy ending. We see Robin alone in the sound booth. We see her physically presenting herself in a way completely incongruous to her personality and her character. We don't get to see lasting queer joy for Robin or for Will. At the end of the end of the day, their queernees is not celebrated, it's barely even acknowledged. Once it's done moving the plot forward, it's forgotten.
