An artist, Alijah Villian (find him on twitter) celebrated MLK day by "...taking well-known white superheroes...and racebending them to look like they were played by actors of color...This is a commentary on the dearth of non-white heroes being portrayed in Hollywood movies." I think this is fantastic. Non white races are grossly under represented in the media, especially in super hero films. I really hope that will change.

I feel very passionate about the rights of animals. I think the food industry is one of the most evil industries out there. I saw a great “e talk” recently on food marketing. The presenter really put things in perspective for me. She states that,
“This is systemized cruelty on a massive scale, and we only get away with it because everyone is prepared to look the other way.”

Over the past few years I have been steadily cutting meat and fish out of my diet. I had to do this slowly because I do not cook and didn’t know too much about nutrition. I had to make sure I would be healthy. First I cut out every meat but chicken because I am just not a huge meat eater. This was easy for me to do. The following year I slowly cut out fish. I am obsessed with Sushi so this was very difficult for me. Last but not least, I am currently working on cutting out chicken. I have been experimenting with other options such as meals filled with beans, tofu, seitan, and tempeh. Pinterest is an aspiring vegetarian’s best friend!
Cutting meat and fish out of your diet is great but its just not enough. We need to take more action! Sign petitions! Demand justice for animals! Demand fair treatment of the animals we eat!

And lastly, I always knew about the horrible treatment of animals but I didn’t really know. I began my path to being a vegetarian after I saw the documentary Earthlings. This documentary changed my life. it was incredibly powerful and educational. It is difficult to watch but so worth it in the end.

RIGHT NOW IN NORMAN, OKLAHOMA: Nearly 1000 students are staging a walk out at their high school after their school district failed to properly handle the rape of 3 young women by a classmate and his social-media harassment campaign that happened on campus afterward.
It's a familiar story. Here we have yet another case of abusers using social media to manipulate, bully, and silence their victims. Another case of sexual violence being mishandled by campus administrators. But this time, the students aren't backing down or keeping quiet. They insist on holding rapists accountable and making their school safe for rape survivors. It's an imperative goal as numerous cases in the past tell horrifying tales of students bullied so badly after being violated that they ended up dropping out of school, having to move, and even committing suicide. I am SO proud of these students. Stand strong, speak your truth, and keep fighting for justice!

Bill Cosby is a Rapist...now
Thirteen women have come forward accusing Bill Cosby of rape over the past thirty years. What is even more disturbing about this is that very few people believed these women until recently when a comedian, Hannibal Buress acknowledged Bill Cosby as a rapist in one of his stand up comedy sketches. It is fantastic that a man chose to believe these thirteen women instead of believing them to be liars like so many others; but what is disturbing is that now that a man has called out Bill Cosby as a rapist, the world is outraged. Why did it take one single man to call out Bill Cosby as a rapist for the world to believe it? Why wasn't it enough that thirteen women have been doing so over the past thirty years?
Men's ally-ship is extremely important when it comes to women's rights progressing but it shouldn't be all that progresses women's rights. It is so important for people to believe women (and men!) when they say they are raped. It is so important to be an ally, to be supportive. It is very discouraging when I read a story about rape or gang rape and all of the comments call the victim a liar or saying they regret the sex so they are claiming to have been raped. It is sad to say that I see victim blaming very often. What does it take to believe someone has been raped? Obviously seeing a video is not even enough to believe someone has been raped. Numerous cases of rape have come out due to being recorded and I STILL see victim blaming and people calling the victims liars and sluts and people defending the rapist. I will never ever understand this.
What is powerful with the Bill Cosby allegations is that people do believe Bill Cosby is a rapist...because a man said so. Over the past thirty years, these thirteen women were called liars until magically one day when Hannibal Buress called Bill Cosby a rapist and now everyone believes these thirteen women.
This needs to change. We need to believe women when they say they are raped instead of automatically assuming they must be lying. Why is it easier to believe a woman is lying about rape as opposed to believing a man raped a woman?

If men are just making conversation when they talk to women on the street, then why don't they say the same things to other men?
I'm sure everyone has seen the video of the girl walking around NYC and getting cat-called. Everyone has their different take of it. Lots of people, men specifically think there is nothing wrong with the actions taken by the men in the video. Many men are saying that these men are simply greeting the woman in the video and that they greet other men as well as women.
To show just how ridiculous that argument is, the hashtag #dudesgreetingdudes was born. It is hilarious and a great way to show men that these kinds of comments aren't heard by men.

In Ft. Lauderdale, homeless charity outreach is now considered a crime, punishable by 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.
This makes me really sad. An elderly man, 90 years old, along with two pastors were arrested for feeding the homeless in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Florida has recently passed laws that criminalize the homeless. Citizens are not allowed to feed them. If they do, they risk jail time and/or a fine. Also, the homeless are not able to have their belongings out in public. If they do, the police are able to confiscate them. Where exactly are homeless people supposed to keep their stuff? Are they supposed to get a storage room or a locker? Oh wait, I forgot, they just shouldn’t be homeless right? They should pick themselves up by their bootstraps and get a job, right?
