doomed yaoi found me again
to me, correctly using 5+ commas in a single sentence is like perfectly executing a combo in a fighting game. to me.
if you think a sentence needs 5+ commas it should be two sentences
itās not about what the sentence needs, iām afraid, nor is it about economy, clarity, or style. itās about winning, little-theatre-fairy.
itās crazy how much you can read if you read
I just watched the movie El Cautivo, a reimagining of the years Cervantes spend prisioner/enslaved in Argelia (yeah they guy who wrote The Quixote) and. Look. I'm not some that really watched Spaniard cinema but if it shows in you country or you can pirate it I 100% recommend, I really really loved it!!!

Iāve noticed this trend in the fandom where people portray Jayvikās working dynamic as this kind of mentor-student thing, with Viktor being the cautious, genius guide gently reining in Jayce, the reckless, hands-on gremlin, but NO. Thatās WRONG.
Theyāre both absolute disasters. They built a tea corner right next to all their sockets and cables. Neither has ever looked at a safety manual in their life. Their collective self-preservation level is negative five. They can whip up the most complex, groundbreaking invention in ridiculously little time, but the moment they turn it on, itās either exploding, on fire, or seconds away from both. Heimerdinger wasnāt their supervisor, he was their babysitter. Itās a MIRACLE they didnāt accidentally kill themselves between act 1 and 2 of s1. I mean, guys, itās canon that Viktor once said āimma do illegal experiments nowā, and all Jayce did in response was say āwhatever makes you happy pookie š„°ā and make sure the Council wouldnāt ban it.
And hereās the thing: their brilliance and all their achievements come exactly from how they constantly push boundaries. This isnāt āa sarcastic twink lectures his himbo colleague on how to use screwdriversā. This is pure mad scientist x different font mad scientist. We were blessed with such a rare dynamic and we need to cherish it more
stay your pretty eyes on course
the purpose of friends is to have people who unconditionally hate your shitty exes & relatives. like maybe YOU have a complex relationship with your father but i sure don't. i'm outside his house with a gun. he's not the unforgivable asshole who raised me he's just an unforgivable asshole
I'm watching Klaus again because 'tis the season, I love that when Jesper asks about the reception you can see the exact moment that Mogens realises he has the opportunity to do the funniest thing in the history of Smeerensburg
The great thing about huge declarations is that the most times you're ever going to have to deliver on them is ONCE. And even that is vanishingly unlikely. The dishes happen every day. My feet hurt now. The kids need a lift to piano lessons every week. The grenade is hypothetical.
do you ever read a take so bad you can't even be mad about it you're just like... ohhhhhh they must be stupid </3 so sad for them
My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.
Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?
What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?
Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.
i wish i was a cishet guy so that i could start a podcast and go to the gym and allow that to fulfill me spiritually. but instead i have these visions
