The Goal and Message of Occupy Wall Street
http://dissenter.firedoglake.com/2011/09/30/the-goal-and-message-of-occupy-wall-street/
"The nearly two week occupation of a New York park near Wall Street known as Occupy Wall Street, initially undertaken by a few, has grown into a significant mobilization of people. The action should not have to be anything more than what it is at face value. The presence of hundreds if not thousands of Americans confronting a beast, whose greed, recklessness and illegal acts resulted in the collapse of the US economy, should not be something Americans show cynicism toward. Yet, some of the most politically engaged individuals are timid when it comes to the opening hundreds of young Americans have created.
A crowd has watched Occupy Wall Street pick up steam and grow in its power yet they continue to gripe about the occupationās lack of one unified message. The message, however, is obvious: it is time for Americans to rise up and take on the injustices perpetrated and perpetuated by Wall Street. It is time to take on the culture of greed and corporate domination...."
The many successes of Occupy Wall Street http://my.firedoglake.com/danps/2011/09/29/the-many-successes-of-occupy-wall-street/ The Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement is less than two weeks old but has already proved controversial, even though it has only received sporadic attention from traditional outlets. While it should not come as a huge shock for corporate-owned media to bury an explicitly anti-corporate occupation, there is a political component as well. As Yves Smith points out, the left āis actually deeply divided on the things that matter, namely money and the role of the state.ā In our post-Citizens United world, Democrats and Republicans in Washington are (or think they are) dependent on those who can move vast sums of cash.
I got nothing to add to this.
Live Blog of #OccupyWallStreet: Day Twelve, Postal Workers Enjoy the Occupationās Support The occupiers took off on a march in the evening, as they have done for the duration of the occupation. They had drums and were chanting loudly, āAll day, all week Occupy Wall Street.ā A dance party was happening in an intersection. Police could have rolled out their orange moving cages to stop the protesters and force them back to Zuccotti Park (renamed Liberty Park by the protesters), where the occupation has been taking place. But, the word came from a commanding officer on the scene that the NYPD was to escort them wherever they wanted to go. The mobile freedom cages were rolled back up

Me, with others at the UW Slut Walk 2011. Iām wearing sunglasses and the olive hat. Thanks to Safe Pokes for taking a great photo! There was a turnout of roughly 100 in Laramie. The group was also quite diverse. Afterwards, we came back to campus and enjoyed live burlesque and vocal performances.
The reaction was fairly positive - we even elicited cheers and clapping when we walked by aĀ barbecueĀ at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. I was thrilled to see so many people come out to support it. Womenās Action Network organized Slut Walk partially in response to an ASUW Senator Noah Hullās remarks in reference to sexual assault. I wrote a letter condemning his remarks, as did others, and he apologized. He references a comment, since deleted, written about me on the website within his letter:
Comment: āLooks like Meg Lanker wasnt getting enough attention lately so she had to make up a rape story. I want the Branding Iron to publish the entire police report and any medical documents. She should proove it because theres nothing but her word and you know how liberals/terrorists lie about everything. Its so co-incidental that theres nothing to fact check huh. I heard she said she got raped on campus. So wheres the news story. I couldnt find anything. UW police said they havent heard anything. its not like anyone would want to rape her anyway, shes a wildabeast. She should be glad someone supposedly wanted to touch her. I like how she changed her name, probably so she wont be assocated with a terrorist. Noah is right. If you dont want to put yourself at risk, dont go out to smoke. You wont put yourself at risk of cancer either. If you dont want to get raped dont act like you want it. I can control myself but some guys cant. You cant control breathing in second hand smoke at all. Go Noah. Stand up to the people who try to whine about smoking being taken away. Maybe if we cant smoke on campus people like Meg Lanker will go away and leave our state alone.ā
Yeah, a little over the top, bro.
So if nothing else, the comments made by Noah Hull, and comments like this one above, provoked a long-needed discussion on the UW campus. I hope to see this dialogue continue.Ā

Cannot rule out fuel meltdown at Fukushima Daiichi No. 2 reactor: Jiji news agency
Reuters Flash
The operator of Fukushima Daiichi's number 2 reactor says water levels are nearly empty. Jiji is reporting that the fuel rods have been left fully exposed at the comlpex's number 2 reactor as levels of water coolant have fallen. If the fuel rods were to melt down, the risk of damage to the reactor vessel would be greater, increasing the risk of a radioactive leak.

Lies my Obama told me
Barack Obama lied.
Again.
He lied because somebody -- a good man, a decent man, and a respected spokesman for the U.S. State Department -- pushed Obama out of his comfort zone this week. And so what happened? -- the Obama administration forced him out of his job. Apparently Obama does just want to have people who agree with him. Imagine that....
