REBLOG TO SAVE AN ARTIST’S LIFE
@faun-songs @jeongmihyo
I think one of the best things about this generation’s humor is just how absurdly rude it probably sounds to every older generation. Like. My parents were watching a relatively new show with me, and the humor was that sort of, ‘A character just randomly says fuck or bitch to someone and that’s the joke’
And my parents are like so offended. Like how could this rudeness be considered funny. This generation must be so mean to each other, they thought.
I mean when you think about it it’s kinda true. Our idea of a joke is just saying ‘Well fuck me right in my ass’ whenever something mildly inconvenient happens, or calling our friend a bitch for like, taking the blue bendy-straw when you really wanted the blue one.
But also in a way, it sort of really prepares us for when people are legitimately rude. Then we won’t get so angry over it, because we’ll partly see it as a joke. And I think that’s why I really love my generation’s sense of humor. It’s seemingly so disrespectful to outsiders, which is a joke in and of itself, and also helps me cope with actual jerks in the real world.
gen z culture is having to correct autocorrect on what is and isn’t a reasonable tech term because it learned on millennials and we’ve changed the rules again
did y’all ever realize that i’m in Gen Z, only sixteen years old, still in high school, and already three times in my life i have seen headlines broadcasting the new “deadliest mass shooting in US history”.
does that not show how bad our county has become?
Millenials should be afraid of Gen Z kids, they’re smarter, more talented and less alive on the inside than we could ever be. We make slam poetry about capitalism while they cut the head off Nietzsche’s corpse to use as Yorick’s skull in a Hamlet parody of the Trump family.
there’s little difference between baby boomers complaining about millennials “killing” various industries by not buying anything and millennials complaining that gen z is stupid for eating tide pods. Both are indications of a much larger problem that the older generation doesn’t want to look at and instead blames the newer generation. For baby boomers complaining about millennials, the bigger problem is capitalism. For millennials complaining about genz, the problem is challenge culture.
we all know how capitalism sucks so im just gonna explain why challenge culture is horrible. Challenge culture has existed for years and most of the time they are very dangerous. In addition to the latest tide challenge, the previous challenges have been the jenner lip challenge which caused severe cuts and broken blood vessels by creating a vacuum in a shot glass with the lips. The fire challenge which was literally set a part of you on fire. The salt and ice challenge which resulted in frostbite and damage to skin tissue. And many more challenges.
Instead of complaining “oh gen z is so stupid for taking a meme so seriously” take a look at why they are doing it and challenge the culture which drove them to it. otherwise we’re no better than baby boomers complaining that millennials aren’t buying diamonds.
Generations: in a nutshell
Baby boomers: “Togetherness is everything!!! Unless you’re poor, young, or unable to feed the Capitalist Beast for any reason!!!!”
Millennials: “we were unprepared as children for the workforce we were joining. Capitalism is stupid and it makes me want to die a little bit”
Gen Z: “we haven’t even formally joined the world and we’re ready for death.”
gen z culture is that no one looks at you weird when you make casual jokes about your poor state of mental health anymore because they all get it, it’s normal.
Ok like I’m not gonna defend eating tide pods. People die from that. What I am gonna say is all y’all millennials gotta stop being like “oh no stupid kids they don’t understand the meme” The meme is 100% understood. My generation just doesn’t care. And that sounds totally stupid I know. But honestly they don’t care. And that’s because nothing feels real. Like I can’t talk for my entire generation but almost everyone I know my age has done something that they very well could have died from and blew it off as nothing. My cars brakes gave out and I didn’t panic. I was blank as I got it to stop and now I mention it and laugh. I can see how that’s fucked up but I just don’t feel anything. A lot of us don’t. When you ask about college all we can say is “well I have to do it so I’m gonna pick the one that seems the least shitty.” Yeah we get excited but at the end of the day everything we do is a motion. Like the motto for gen z could easily be “we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.” We do homework the day it’s due, we live with the brooding responsibilities but we just ignore it til we have to deal with it because we just don’t care.
tonight’s mood: the biggest difference between millennials and gen z is the millennial aesthetic can be summed up with a cringe black and white filtered picture of train tracks with times new roman reading “nothing matters xxx - millennial mixtape” but the gen z aesthetic is a pale pastel background with dat boi in the upper left corner, communist pepe at 17% opacity behind dat boi, in the bottom right theres that photo of the glitter in the coffee cup, top right corner has “england is my city” in a comic sans ripoff font, bottom left has nothing but the 🌿 emoji with 420 beside it. center of the photo reads “whomst else tryna disassociate & transcend to the 18th dimension 2 forgt abt the meaningless of life” but theres no consistent font or sentence case. the text color is bright red outlined in neon green, there’s a blurry blue shadow that isnt aligned with the text at all. there’s a fidget spinner somewhere.
Millennials are out here passively destroying whole industries by longer seeing utility in them
Gen Z is straight up destroying the tide pod industry within a week by advertising controversial alternative uses and goddamn memery
Boomers can’t keep up
They can only widen their eyes in horror and watch
My god I think they’ve cracked the code
What’s next
Teenager: *is idealistic, caring, and invigorated by life and its meaning*
Adults: oh, just wait till life gets to you! It’ll crush all your dreams, steal all your cash and leave you sobbing in a ditch! Get real!
Another teenager: *is cynical, depressed, and cautious of the outside world*
Adults: oh no, this poor baby! What happened to take your innocence so soon? You have your whole life of wonderful experiences ahead of you! Cheer up!
as a gen z all i have to say about us as a group is that we are composed of 75% nihilistic apathy and 25% raw hatred for ads except the pillow pets ads from like 2009 so jot that down
Aight aight I know gen z is depressed as shit but we all need some positivity so here’s some cool shit we’re doing
A lot of us have ukuleles? I dunno man thats pretty rad
Have y'all seen the dent we’re already making in the world even though most of us are like 15? Like damn son, we’re petitioning, we’re protesting, we’re making it happen
(Haven’t confirmed this but it seems legit) So I’ve heard we’re the “gayest” generation so far, so think of all the big steps we’re gonna take once we’re older so future LGBTQA+ kids can be happy!
Pastels? Holographic aesthetic stuff?? Man am I glad that stuff is popular again
Cat memes (although I suppose that was somewhat started by The Millenials, but whatever)
We’re not taking anyone’s bullshit anymore. We’re calling people out for their discrimination
C l e a n c o r e
Finally starting to respect people’s triggers!
Racial diversity keeps on growing
Guys you don’t know how happy I am to see all those “positive suggestion” blogs and how many notes their posts are getting
We’re working on recovering and supporting eachother damn
Hey did I mention plants? Bc it seems like most of us like plants idk
Saying “fuck you” to social norms
Wicca/witchcraft is being revived and I think thats cool
Showing love and support for homeless people
Learning how to healthily cope with our mental illnesses
Setting aside our anger and pettiness so that we can love and heal together
Real talk guys, you’re all so strong, and beautiful, and wonderful, please keep going and support your fellow humans! You are worthy of love and respect!
Let’s make 2018 worth it, and spread our love to everone else! 💖
I hate to have to put this stuff on the bottom of a positivity post but
[TERFS/SWERFS/MAPs/NOMAPs/ddlg don’t interact!]
I am barely a millennial. Right in between that and the start of gen z. And I swear to god, you millenials better not keep this shaming of gen z up. I watched baby boomers do this to millenials and y'all didn’t deserve it. Do not become the last generation. Challenge your thinking. Just, come on.
im TIRED of people calling weird ass memes “millennial humor” like do you know who makes & shares those memes? teens. GENERATION Z BITCH. millenials pioneered memes but we’re the ones who turned them into 16-layered webs of irony!! give us credit for our nonsensical humor!!!!!!
