I have a folder called Time is a Flat Circle in which I collect evidence of humanity. Here is most of them.
Okayokayokayokaybut "My hand will wear out but the inscription will remain" is kind of a power line BEFORE you factor in that it is, in fact, over a thousand years old.
Itās always good to spend a few moments, on a quiet day, looking through the Family album.

āI very proudly entered the forestry school as an 18-year-old and telling them that the reason that I wanted to study botany was because I wanted to know why asters and goldenrod looked so beautiful together. These are these amazing displays of this bright, chrome yellow and deep purple of New England aster, and they look stunning together. And the two plants so often intermingle rather than living apart from one another, and I wanted to know why that was. I thought that surely in the order and the harmony of the universe, there would be an explanation for why they looked so beautiful together. And I was told that that was not science, that if I was interested in beauty, I should go to art school. Which was really demoralizing as a freshman, but I came to understand that question wasnāt going to be answered by science, that science, as a way of knowing, explicitly sets aside our emotions, our aesthetic reactions to things. We have to analyze them as if they were just pure material, and not matter and spirit together. And, yes, as it turns out, thereās a very good biophysical explanation for why those plants grow together, so itās a matter of aesthetics and itās a matter of ecology. Those complimentary colors of purple and gold together, being opposites on the color wheel, theyāre so vivid, they actually attract far more pollinators than if those two grew apart from one another. So each of those plants benefits by combining its beauty with the beauty of the other. And thatās a question that science can address, certainly, as well as artists. And I just think that āWhy is the world so beautiful?ā is a question that we all ought to be embracing.ā

"damn I'm crying over an insect" "why am I having such strong feelings over how the sky looks" "it's weird how happy this small thing made me feel" THAT'S BECAUSE YOU LIVE HERE!!!! you live on this earth. everything all the time is an experience, no matter how common or mundane. this world is unique. so are its small moments. it is good to enjoy a tiny thing. you love the world even at its smallest scale.
Good news: if youāre currently laying around and not producing anything, you are a credit to your species.
Itās recently been found that even hive insects rest. Bees will play with colorful toys. Ants sleep for about 1 minute but they do it so frequently it amounts to a few hours per day. Even trees take breaks.
The only things that work without rest are machines; literally everything that lives requires rest.
EVERYTHING THAT LIVES REQUIRES REST. STOP JUDGING YOURSELF FOR NOT BEING A ROBOT.
And even machines need to rest all the time. Even unfeeling blobs of steel need maintenance, upkeep, and care. They need to be turned of every now and then to cool down.
Rest is sacred
For any of my musical witch friends, I had this idea for a way to make sigils/spells. Thought this might be cool to try! Alternatively, you could also make a traditional sigil and play it as a graphic score to activate :)

just learned about the ginkgo trees that survived the nuclear blast in Hiroshima
you cannot kill me in a way that matters
At Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park, you'll also find a Parasol tree that not only survived the bombing, but has since begun to produce more trees :)
But my favourite exhibit has to be from the nearby Honkawa Elementary school museum, commemorating the Canna plant that became a symbol of hope for many when it was discovered sprouting up in the wreckage only two weeks after the blast...after the Americans claimed nothing would grow in Hiroshima for seventy-five years:
I wonder if thereās going to be a resurgence in maritime superstitions after this Oceangate debacle.
Like, itās pretty common knowledge that historically, sailors are or were a very superstitious bunch. And how could they not be? On the sea you can take every safety precaution there is, and things can still go wrong. You can still see things in the water or in the darkness of the open sea that youāll never be able to explain or understand. This is a common experience of naval sailors to this day, you can find plenty of Ask Reddit threads about it.
The sea cannot be tamed. It is the most powerful force on this planet. You can do everything right and it can still take everything and never give it back.
And now you have five dead rich men that will never resurface. All because Stockton Rush tempted fate in every possible way. He did everything wrong in regards to concrete safety precautions. He boasted. He named his submersible after a sunken ship. He married somebody descended from people that the sea had already claimed.
Maybe this part is just me being a bit of a romanticist, but the titan is actually a very different vessel from the Titanic. Despite the arrogant boasting surrounding the Titanicās maiden voyage, and the arrogance of the Captain, the Titanic was a large vessel that was crafted with care and attention to detail. The Titanic had purpose. It was built with fail safes in mind to prevent sinking. It was meant to be a luxurious experience for those on board. Even third class cabins, though small, were meant to be elegant, clean and comfortable for those staying in them. And the sea took itās time claiming the titanic, almost as if it was savoring it.
But the Titan was none of those things. It was an idle vessel for people who had no need to be there. It was small. Uncomfortable. Built with carelessness, with no attention to detail what so ever. And it had the gall to name itself after the magnificent liner that it came to crawl over. It didnāt fail on itās maiden voyage in such a dramatic fashion. Instead the ocean crushed it like an annoying gnat that kept coming back.

Every caterpillar in the hedges as you walked beside them has always loved you like the way only the unnoticed vermin ever can. Every spider, every ant, every fly, every grasshopper, every single little fragile life you never ever saw was looking up at your grotesque bulbous world of a body and in love with you because of how you did not hurt them, and it does not matter whether you would have hurt them if you saw them, because they lived to tell the story of you to their descendants. They whispered to each egg and paralyzed still-living soft-bodied grub, "I saw God more times than there are leaves in our kingdom and they let me live so that you could live too" and then one day you woke up and saw a ladybug crawling up your doorframe and you took a picture to send a text to your grandmother and thus the cycle of mercy was complete through complete accident and lack of intent and likely just luck, but it was still complete and there are still fireflies in West Virginia, so how bad could you really be, if we still have those?
is the world really such a terrible place? yesterday i asked if oat milk was extra and the barista said yes so i said ok just regular milk then and when she gave me my chai latte she whispered āi used oat milk ;)ā doesnt that make u want to live another day?
here is my life philosophy: next week there might be someone ahead of you in line at the store whoās short a quarter and you have a quarter and you can give it to them. if you werenāt there, theyād have to put something back. the week after that you could be getting lunch and the waiter might ask if you want some pancakes someone else ordered and never picked up. you could find someoneās lost cat. you could watch someoneās bag while they go to the restroom. there are so many ways you are going to touch other peopleās lives and they are going to touch yours and thereās no way to know when itās going to happen. so you have to keep living!!! i wouldnāt want to die knowing that tomorrow the barista will give me free oat milk just to be nice.Ā
When I was 11 years old - we went to Sea World for my birthday. This was to avoid the realization I had no friends, and no one to come to a birthday party and probably because someone gave my mother free tickets at work. It was kinda a shitty day despite being at a theme park full of cute animals. There was a new roller coaster there that had just opened so we decided to go on. I was nervous. Iād never been on a roller coaster.
A group of 6 college kids were ahead of us in line and started chatting with me. Full on just having a fun conversation with someone literally going through the beginning of a very awkward middle school period. I was so shocked they wanted to talk to me. I think my mom mentioned it was my birthday. They were very nice about it. When we got on the ride they told us to go ahead of them so we could sit at the front of the car since it held 8 people.
Now the ride (called Journey to Atlantis - I believe it is sadly no longer there) started with a slow ride of beautiful visuals of dolphins and oceans and computerized images of this imaginary Atlantis before going up the hill to the beginning of the coaster, where it paused for about 30 seconds, and then the ride started. The college kids must have known there would be a pause. Maybe theyād ridden it before Iām not sure.
But as we sat there on that peak, 6 people Iāve never known, and will never know again, sang a very very lonely 11 year old happy birthday. Loudly. And with gusto. They were happy and laughing and joyful. And it made me feel less alone in the world.
I am 29 years old this year, and I still remember them. I still remember that kindness. It is so important. It doesnāt go into a vacuum. It exists beside me in my daily life. And I love the idea that I have been that person to someone else too.
Itās stunningly lovely to be human when weāre kind to each other.
OH THIS CANāT BE LEFT IN THE NOTES
