Lucy's eyes widened "Natsu! Look out!"
On instinct her body reacted and tackled him to the ground, trying to dodge the sphere of unknown magic. They tumbled to the floor in a mess of limbs "Are you alright?" Lucy asked once they'd stopped rolling, looking down at him. Natsu had a small cut underneath his closed eyes and panicked flared in her chest. Was he unconscious?
She scrambled to get off him, looking for any wound or damage taken. Everything seemed in order. No.. actually.. as Lucy leaned in closer she noticed a gray mist, it was hazy and she would have missed it if she wasn't scruntizing every inch of him.
The.. mist was being absorbed into his skin. "Shit" Lucy hissed, Wendy wasn't with them and she didn't know what it even was. She looked over her shoulder, she had almost forgot about the battle that was going ahead. "What the.." the words trailed off.
The basement was empty. There were hundreds of men, but now they were all gone. Apart from one man.
One man stood across the hall with a sinister grin and gleaming eyes. He was covered in a cloak, and a haughty hood was casting a shadow on his face.
Lucy rushed to stand, stepped in front of Natsu subconsciously and narrowed her eyes "Who are you?" Her voice was hard. She didn't know who he was but she could only guessed he was the one who did this to her partner. Her partner who was the strongest person she knew.
"Good luck Girlie" His tone was throaty and brittle but she could hear the underlying humour "You're going to need it. Trust me"
Who was he? What did he want?
And then he was gone, leaving nothing behind but mist.
Lucy settled back down beside Natsu "Natsu.. are you.. come on wake up" She shook him lightly. After no response she rushed to check his pulse and sighed in relief at the beating of his heart.
Natsu finally began to stir. "Oh thank god" she breathed. Lucy helped him turn around, he had landed on his front
When he turned over though, all those worries came back twice as forceful, knocking the wind out of her. "N-Natsu?" His eyes had turned into an abyss of black, a never ending source of darkness.
He reached out towards her cheek, stroking along her cheekbone before it slipped down to her throat. Lucy's cheeks immediately inflamed, pink rivalling his hair. "N-Natsu what are you doing?"
His fingers curled around her throat tighter. Natsu tipped his heard to the side, watching his movements carefully. "Lucy."
She was unable to breathe.
"Natsu.. its- your.. tight"
Natsu only pressed on harder, cutting off her air flow "Lucy." He spoke calmly.
Lucy gasped, tugging at his arm to move it, her head felt woozy and she didn't like whatever joke he was playing "Nat-su" she stuttered, clawing at his hand.
The pressure in her head was building, the longer she pulled at his hand the longer she knew this wasnât her Natsu. âPl-easeâ her voice was hoarse as she begged âlet... g-o of.. meâ
Something flashed in his eyes and he dropped her. Lucy took a deep breath which burned in the best way, she hurried to put some distance between them. Through out these years this was the only time sheâd ever been scared of his strength.
âNatsu.. whatâs wrong?â Lucy croaked, cradling her neck. Bruises would show up for sure.
Natsu.. or whatever was possessing Natsu stood up âWhatâs wrong? Youâre whatâs wrongâ his tone was monotone and held no emotion.
â"Lately you've became a burden" Lucy had heard that countless times, from her father, from Aquarius from other guilds but never would she ever have imagined Natsu would say it to her. She had confided in him how useless she feels sometimes, she didnât think.. no. This wasnât her Natsu, this couldnât be.
âI, I havenât, why.. Natsu, come backâ Lucy subconsciously reached out towards him before she retracted her arm. Seeing him this way made her eyes water. âPleaseâ she begged.
âYouâre the weakling on our team. We donât need you, you only cause more harm than goodâ he started to walk towards her slow and deliberate.
Lucy started moving backwards, it wasnât him she reminded herself but the words still burned her all the same. She had told herself these things countless times.. even if this wasnât Natsu it must have been in his mind for this- demon, to channel.
Lucy had started to cry without realising, and now she had the tears felt heavy, as if weighing her down and proving she truly is that weak. As Natsu grew closer she crawled backwards. âI summon thee Leo spirit, Loke!â She called.
No light, no bells, nothing. She glanced around and noticed the same black mist was surrounding the room. âThe mist must be.. blocking me somehowâ she whispered to herself.
âUseless, pathetic, weak girlâ Suddenly he was in front of her, she only had a second to shield herself before his kick hit her stomach at full force âCanât even use your magicâ He growled.
âAHHâ the kicking was relentless and she couldnât get a clear view at him through her tears that were never ending âNATSU PLEASE STOPâ
His next kick hesitated, Lucy used this to her advantage, she managed to move out the way and leap up and tackle him. Sheâd never win him in a one on one fight, she was aware, but maybe, just maybe she can get through to him.
The spirit grinned up at her from where they had landed, she was holding his arms down and was straddled around his waist. Normally she would be a bumbling mess but she was too emotional and too focused.
âNatsu, itâs me, Lucy, your best friend, your Nakama. Come back to me, you arenât like thisâ
Through out it all her tears were still flowing, her lips were salty and bitter from the taste. God.. she was crying even now, she truly is weak.
âRemember that time you broke in to my flat and I was crying and you told me that youâd never leave, keep that promise, come back, come backâ
The words didnât phase the man.
âLucy Heartfilia, FairyTail wizard, member of the strongest team. Although I never could figure out how you ended up on that, Your mother was a powerful wizard.. compared to her you are nothing. Not worthy of our guild nameâ
Each word hit her like a bullet. Ripping her open and exposing all her wounds to him, showing him every pain, every fear, every weakness, all laid out for him to witness. Maybe he was right.. she told herself her mother would be proud.. but how could she be proud of someone who turned out like this. A sobbing mess.
âNatsu.. remember, youâ She couldnât breathe, the pressure on her chest felt too intense but she knew it wasnât any sort of magic âyou, took me to the guild, you, you made me a memberâ
He scoffed, âThe worst decision I ever madeâ
âYou were meant to be bottom of the food chain but you managed to leech onto to me and my power. WELL NO MOREâ Natsu flipped them around, though Lucy didnât put up much of an effort. Words could break her more than his kicks could ever.
âErza, Gray, even Wendy they all feel the sameâ He spit to the side âThey all secretly despise every time your whiney mouth opens upâ
Lucy accepted it. It tore her apart inside and made her want to vomit, but some part of her had always known.
âLucy?â For a split second Natsuâs eyes went clear. His voice terrified.
âNatsu! Youâve got to get control!â She cried, at his mercy beneath him, trapped in with his arms.
He growled and his eyes turned dark once again âPesky Wizard...â it mumbled âWhen Iâm done with you, youâll be nothing but a bug beneath my bootâ
No. She wonât accept this anymore.
Erza, Gray, Natsu, Mira, Levy, they were her family. FairyTail was her family and they wouldnât think this way about her. She knew that, itâs hard to see but she knows it truly.
Natsu- The spirit lifted its fist and threw it down towards her face âFeel our wrathâ
Lucy took a deep breath, bracing herself. She closed her eyes âNatsu I love youâ she whispered. She would take whatever he had to give her because this wasnât him. She would endure it long enough until Natsu could get a hold on this monster.
When the hit never came she opened her eyes hesitantly. The fist had stopped millimetres away from her face. And Natsu was crying âLucy..? Oh Lucy what have I doneâ
