Wait, the Greek gods were supposed to be perfect? Is our contemporary understanding of Greek Mythology the equivalent of understanding Christianity through Family Guy jokes about Jesus?

It's a theology, terms like "supposed to" can be loaded. Greek polytheism had no canon. It was by nature diverse, and viewed in many different ways. Greek gods weren't "supposed to" be anything, but the realities of Greek polytheism were far more complex than most people understand.

yeah, when you talk about greek religion you really have to be careful about making any sort of blanket statement. part of the difficulty here is that you have to get pretty specific when talking about religious beliefs in ancient greece. time period alone is going to change the answer to this, and then you have to narrow your question by location and then even further by smaller belief systems. even just within philosophers of the same location and time period you're going to get contrary opinions on the role and behavior of the gods, and that's not even looking into common religious practices or individual cults. cicero's de natura deorum is just one example of these arguments on the role of the gods in the world. personally i find the stoic perception of god to be one of the more fascinating versions of this!

religion in ancient greek communities is such a broad topic (and one frequently colored by its authors) that there is scholarship on the scholarship of ancient greek religion. what i can say is that gods with "human" traits were definitely represented in a mockingly comedic fashion at times (lucian's dialogues of the gods comes to mind), but there are also sources that very earnestly treat these "imperfect" gods as worthy of worship. i say "imperfect" in quotes because even that is a moral judgment that's hard to qualify outside of its ancient context.

so the answer is really "depends who you're asking." identifying the beliefs of particular cults and traditions can be tough, but we do at least have textual examples of critical views/arguments about the moral character of the gods. i have some followers who are much more knowledgeable about recent scholarship into the topic than i am (as you can probably tell i know more about philosophical beliefs), so hopefully they can recommend further reading! just be careful to check the scope of whatever research you read, because it's likely to be specific to a certain historical context.

and it'll give you contact info and websites to A BUNCH of small farms selling their heritage breed fiber directly!! you can also look up by animal breed if you want a specific kind of fiber like, say Navajo-Churro

it's AWESOME!! many of these farms seem to be certified by the Conservancy and the Conservancy itself seems to be like a good nonprofit

Is it not completely insane and mind blowing that a few days ago just marked a solid year of this and we still get lukewarm headlines by mainstream media about how Israel is now ACCUSED of attacking Gaza hospitals (w no actual penalties for it)…. i don't think most people realize how bad things in rafah have truly gotten. we all already know israel has desecrated its own vow that rafah would be the "safe zone" in every way imaginable, but i can't describe how gut-wrenching it is to read about 12 iof soldiers infiltrating the rafah crossing under the guise of an aid truck just a day or so ago. again--they entered rafah with the pretense that they would be supplying starved, displaced people food

this is just now breaking, but i can't fathom how many palestinians got lured out w the promise of feeding their families--only to massacred then and there, never to be heard from again. likely their bodies won't ever be returned to the families. how can anyone read this and not be absolutely horrified

I'm going to use this as a jumping off point to mention the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act.

It's... pretty much what it says on the tin. Some car manufacturers are phasing out AM Radio from their cars so they can replace them with their own streaming services - this bill seeks to make them a mandatory feature.

As somebody whose day job is in radio, I totally agree that the amount of ads and the quality of the ads is ridiculous. Personally, I don't find radio to be an amazing source of political news broadcasting.

But do you know what it is really good at? Providing emergency broadcasts during extreme weather events.

When power and internet is down, radio can be one of the only sources of information, and it's helped provide lifesaving information during these times.

(Plus, at least in my area of the country, emergency weather alerts override and interrupt programming when broadcast - even during pesky ads!)

And even less can I believe that they’re going full Karen to Chase customer service workers. Like you did check fraud. You did a crime. You don’t get to complain about the consequences.

Wait like some people don’t know

So there was a glitch in Chase’s check deposit system. Usually when you cash a check, only a fraction of the full amount is available to you immediately until the check clears. The glitch made it so you could cash a checks full amount right away no matter how big.

So. People were writing themselves massive checks and immediately withdrawing cash they technically didn’t have and then closing their bank account. They were calling it an “infinite money glitch” like it’s the Sims or something.

But it’s not like a cheat code that was suddenly discovered. It’s just check fraud. It’s just straight up a felony. And a good chunk of them filmed themselves doing it.

So people are waking up finding they’re in the negative however many thousands of dollars they pulled.

What BAFFLES me is that people are calling Chase demanding their accounts be reopened, demanding their money back. Work from home Chase agents have shared the calls they’ve been getting from people angry they’re in the red. Like it’s not your money anymore, love, you STOLE it and they took whatever you had originally to try to pay the balance back!! That’s not yours anymore!

People are being SNIPPY on tiktok when people tell them that they did a CRIME. This one lady was like “you don’t know the law, my lawyer knows the law” and it’s like honey! Your lawyer is going to do his fuckin best but you did a crime and then you FILMED YOURSELF. You’re going to jail! Now is the time to start practicing what my therapist calls radical acceptance!

So that’s the tea on the money glitch. Most banks are giving them 30 days to pay the amount back but some people I’ve heard are already being arrested.
