underappreciated Thing: when the whumpee is getting forced into restraints. that moment when their captor is holding them down, and there’s this quick desperate struggle bc they aren’t handcuffed or tied yet, they still have a tiny bit of hope they might get out of this so they’re straining against their captor’s grip and fighting with all they have, but they’re not strong enough and they’re finally tied down and there’s nowhere to go, they struggle for another second and finally have to give up

THIS IS SO GREAT. I love that moment, Nonny! Gah!!! When they realize their captor’s intention and they get that look in their eyes like “no no no no no!” and then they struggle desperately and OMG IT’S SO WONDERFUL.

Sometimes what I want is a defiant hero, the kind who tells the antagonist where he can stick his fucking questions, who gets kicked in the face and just spits blood back at his captors.  Sometimes I want a cinnamon roll who shrinks back into the corner with wide, terrified eyes.  And sometimes I want the one with quiet strength, who despite his pounding heart and shaking hands, can look the antagonist in the eye and say, “I’ll give you what you want if you let them go.”
