Bibliophiles ♡ Ophelia & Abe
Functional libraries did not exist in Ophelia’s world. Very few people had an appreciation for literature where she was from (If they could even read at all.) A lot of what managed to survive the nuclear bombs ended up as Raider’s fire kindling. Whenever she was lucky enough to find a complete book or magazine she’d take it. It was one of the reason’s she was teased as a ‘pack rat’ by some of her compatriots. Even if they did not appreciate Ophelia’s eccentric hoarding ways; they eventually stopped complaining. What she had learned in books and the strange objects she had gathered came in handy more than once.
The joy that shown on Ophelia’s fair face was almost infectious. It almost had a childlike wonder quality to it. In Ophelia’s wildest dreams she would have never fancied herself in such a splendid library. She had never been the type of person who lamented over what time period she lived in. A feral nuclear wasteland was what she was born in. Why pine for a life that she could never have? Luxuries such as a clean and operational library did not even cross her mind. Yet she found herself amongst more books than she could have ever imagined.
Happily Ophelia nestled herself into the farthest enclosed corner of the library. The retro beauty was surrounded by a variety of books. The subjects varied from; locking picking, computer programming, fashion magazines, maps, and cook books. There were even a few books in Chinese. For the first time in her life she could read in peace. Not just grabbing glances between gun shots and haggling. She imagined this is what being content felt like.
Between Ophelia’s fingers was a small platinum colored disk. As she read she absentmindedly played with it in; flipped it back and forth. Carelessly she let the precious piece of metal slip through her fingers and it rolled into the isle.

Strolling the aisles of a lavish library he had stumbled upon, the man witnessed a small slip of metal roll near to him. ❝Oh!❞ Now, his first instinct was to kick it away in fear it would be a bomb. After a moment of frozen movements, he swayed to the side of the aisle for ten seconds or so. It gave him time to contemplate his options, and once he assured himself it wasn’t an explosive, he thought it best to discover where it came from. The only logical response.
One, two, and three steps were made towards the disk before he was within arm’s reach to it. Bending over, he clutched a hand around it and with a straightened back he examined it.
Dangling it from one hand, he twisted his hand and looked over the two sides of this shining slab of metal. It almost looked like... a computer disk.
A frown came to rest on his face, both lips downturned with confusion. What use it must have, he wasn’t sure he needed to know. Instead of reading the disk on a computer, Abe placed it flat against his blue palm and began walking around the corner of the aisle. Spotting a young woman at a lone table, he couldn’t help but imagine she was the one to have dropped it.
❝Excuse me --- this wouldn’t happen to be yours?❞ He murmured, one hand offering the metal for her to look at.
