but then i think about those ancestors and i consider that maybe they’d be proud that i looked like their husbands or nieces or neighbours whom they loved so dearly and then i think about my children and how i would want them to look just like their father no matter what his ancestry might be because that is the nature of the heart; to try and find pieces of who we love in everything that we see

diary entry - january 3rd 2024

I went for a walk and saw three apples spaced out along the sidewalk, far enough away from each other that you didn't see two at the same time, that it seemed like a coincidence. Each one was in a further state of decay than the last. I saw footprints that looked like mine walking in the same direction as me, which was weird because I had come from the opposite direction, so why are there previous footprints leading me back? I got into the bath with my shirt still on. Mindlessly at first, then decidedly on purpose. The water was cold, so I took it off. Not so much cause and effect as just not being able to feel both things at once. Tangentially related, Hailey said, not to me but to my sister, that I am evidently autistic. I am slightly resentful because I think I do a pretty good job of appearing a reasonable rate of normal. I guess Hailey is a safe person, though, so she has seen a bit more of me.
