the windclan civil war plotline does drive me crazy bc for once theres some actual shakesperian tragedy shit going on and yet most fans of the series opt for an interpretation of it with zero nuance and things just happening for no reason

windclan civil war plotline: so growing close to firestar as an ally in his old age, tallstar comes to regret his choice in deputy as being someone more aggressive and xenophobic than him who will destroy their clans' relationship, so he does a last minute switch up to make firestar's friend onewhisker his deputy instead but the timing or planning and lack of open communication or being in touch with the brewing politics of his clan or any care about onewhisker or mudclaw's actual feelings dooms this action because it spends mudclaw spiraling into conspiracy and anger at being randomly denied the job and power he's been working towards and feels entitled to and he begins a coup. meanwhile onestar doesn't want to be leader whatsoever and this responsibility randomly being dropped on him and paranoia over his clanmates nearly killing him over it leads to him becoming more spiteful and feeling forced to become more xenophobic and nationalist out of necessity to save his image with said clanmates, becoming the very thing tallstar was seeking to prevent but ultimately became the catalyst for instead.

posts about it: so tallstar changed his deputy i guess but onestar randomly decided to become the worst guy ever (kind of mean to firestar) and ruined the clan. he was so much more interesting and a better character before when he was a bland nice nothing side character. tbh mudclaw is justified in trying to kill him though cause it was very rude that he randomly got demoted so i guess tallstar messed up there but only a little bit

although its quite random i still love love love the idea of longtail and brindleface being littermates. like basically throw out the canon family tree and just think of them as their only family, but i love the idea of like. brindleface always being unimpressed by how show-offy her brother can be, she just rolls her eyes and is like. yeah i know. he's a fucking hothead, and when firepaw joined thunderclan he just couldnt believe that someone as nice and patient as brindleface has LONGTAIL for a brother, and even though the siblings bicker every now and then, they absolutely adore each other - longtail is highly protective of her sister, even if she points out that it always seems like she's the one who has to help HIM

i dont think they necessarily have a huge falling out when tigerclaw is exiled, because brindleface knows her brother and knows longtail never, in a million years, would ever betray thunderclan or hurt bluestar, but she is disappointed in the fact that he let himself get drawn into that. brindleface knows her brother - or at least, she did when they were kits and 'paws - and she knows that longtail, despite his rough exterior, knows better. that he was raised better than that. and at this point, her kits are about to become apprentices and she has to focus on ashkit, fernkit, and cloudkit, and again, she KNOWS longtail doesnt have a bad heart, and she thought tigerclaw was her friend as well, but brindleface also has to face the fact that she's much more mature than her brother is - something shes always known in the back of her mind, but now has been proven to her beyond a doubt, and she just kinda has to be firm w/ him like. of course i will always be there for you and if you need me, im there like always, but i have kits now and YOU need to build your reputation back up, you cant rely on me to help you do that.

when swiftpaw dies, it destroys longtail, and i think brindleface tries so so hard to reach him. her own children could have died if they went with him, but i think when she says that - not in cricitism of swiftpaw, but just in a sort of shocked manner - longtail doesn't take it well and reminds her that ashpaw and fernpaw are still her, but that swiftpaw will never become a warrior, even though he deserved it. he deserved it more than anyone else, and brindleface - although longtail doesn't say it - thinks to herself that longtail is saying that cloudtail wasn't worthy. that swiftpaw was inherently better than cloudtail, and the two siblings are just. staring at each other realizing that they can't get through to one another at all.

when brindleface is killed, i think longtail genuinely loses himself in grief for awhile. his littermate, his true best friend, was murdered by someone that he considered to be a friend and someone he looked up to, and she was killed in such a cruel, senseless manner. her children lost their mother - one of the best, kindest cats that longtail has ever known - and now don't have anyone - except for him. fernpaw and ashpaw have him, of course, but longtail thinks of himself as a fuck up. he's fucked up so much of his warriorship already, fireheart barely trusts him, and now he lost his sister, and her children are grieving and the most he can do for them is help shoulder a bit of their grief.

man this is long but i think longtail tries to tell himself to be there for ashpaw and fernpaw, that they need him, and he knows his nephew and niece do, but he doesn't quite know how to do it. he tries his hardest to find a way to be there for them, but it's not until firestar asks him to be fernpaw's new mentor that he looks his niece in the face and thinks okay. okay brindleface. i promise i won't fuck this up. i promise that i'll train her to be the best warrior she can be, and that i won't let her or her brother forget you.

Crowfeather still sucks but he also clearly favors Jay which is...hmm....

Nightcloud needs some goddamn character development. She joined a coup for christ's sake.

Deputy Silverstream and the girl has been through the horrors...repeatedly. She got the role not because she was her father's daughter but because of her ability to survive the Horrors. Lots of drama in RiC btwn her and Leopardstar

Considering having Sasha stay in RiC

Medicine cat star marks and Leafpool going from Starclan's golden child to having a years long faith crisis (poor girl)

Riverclan Lionpaw who goes through many of the horrors, gets character development, and eventually (maybe) decides to become a med cat much to his clan's chagrin.

The Clan Olympics being a yearly thing instead of being done once. The first year Sandstar lets her mate hunt apprentices for sport... safely, of course.

No plans for Sol rn, not a fan of conflict coming from outsiders instead of within the very obviously unstable clans.

All the clan's founders, except Skyclan, were women + some kitty cat misandry for spice

I have seen multiple fics and aus use a "we don't talk about exiled or executed people or traitors in general so they'll fade in memory" thing in the clans. That's genius and I'm stealing it. It makes the dark forest trainees make sooo much more sense.

ThC having a massive predatory cat that's like thrice the size and strength of the average clan cat in a deputy role + having the largest number of cats puts them in a very unique position since no one with brains wants to fight that. So they end up being sort of mediators in a very morally questionable way.

Speaking of, Fire genuinely considering killing someone twice as an apprentice and having to be physically stopped the second time is... certainly a trait that will be explored.

it's kind of interesting how firesand gets handled by rewrites i've noticed a lot of people choose to either keep fireheart single or have him pair up with someone else which is fine, but i also thinks its a bit of a testament that despite it being one of the og ships the lack of chemistry is just so boring even fanworks are uninterested in it (<- a generalization of fanworks in order to make my point succinct and my post more snappy; i am simply trying to make a point of my own experiences)

Thinking back to the first story I ever started writing down (I was 7 or 8) about a group of stray cats who, every full moon, took the form of human kids. They actually were human kids, who had been killed (all at different times/by different people). Their bodies were each dumped by the side of the road where a cat had been hit by a car previously, and their souls landed in the cats' bodies. Eventually they all found each other and decided that every full moon, when they shifted, they'd try to solve each other's murders one by one. It was going to be a series, with each book focusing on a different kid's murder mystery. I told my mom about it once, briefly, and she said "Those cat books (warrior cats) are making you creepy."

I still find it funny about how much Tigerstar hates Firestar.

Cause like. Baby Firepaw is 6 moons old or so when he joins ThunderClan. Two moons later he's made a warrior at 8. If we take 6 moons = 12 years, that means Tigerclaw was literally growling over this teenager for years.

One teenager pisses you off so you decide to obsessively dream about murdering him (canon), you train your sons to kill him (canon), you haunt his grandson throughout his life (canon), and then. and THEN.

And then you go out of your way to find this teenager-who-is-now-a-grown-man at the end of a fucking war and attempt to murder him then and there.

And you fail.

Nice going, buddy. Obsession ain't the best look on you, but I wouldn't have it any other way <3
