Here is the research about Grigori Rozanov's medals
I am writing a fanfic about Ilya's childhood including his relationship with his father Grigori Rozanov. However Grigori terrorized his much younger wife and criticized Ilya all the time, there is no evidence that he used physical force against family members. And despite everything, Ilya respected him and cared for him. That's why Grigori seem so interesting to me. People born during the war and post-war years often became very strict, cold parents because they've seen shit. While many people born later, like Ilya's mother, turned out to be "weak" and were broken in the nineties when they saw shit for the first time.
Grigori Rozanov is described in both the show and the book as simply "police". However, in the show, at the gala evening in Russia, he is wearing a military tunic. I wonder if the showrunners just picked it randomly, or for some purpose. Its black color and amount of galloons on the sleeves suggest he is a rear admiral in the navy. Rear admiral can be responsible for protecting the army from attack from the rear or the infrastructure behind an army. In Russia, the navy was involved during the Afghan war (mostly for transportation) and Chechen wars (marines fought on the front lines). His military career and participation in Soviet–Afghan War (1979—1989) may explain why he married so late. In 1986, the USSR began a withdrawal of troops that didn't actively participate in military operations. Grigori's first son is probably born on 1987.
In the TV show Grigori Rozanov wears the Order of Courage (Орден мужества) which was established in 1994 and awarded to those fighting crime and protecting public order on the right side. The overwhelming majority of holders are participants of the Chechen wars.
The USSR medals on the left side include Navy Distinguished Service Badge (Нагрудный знак отличник военно-морского флота) confirming he served in the navy, Jubilee Medal "50 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR" (Юбилейная медаль «50 лет Вооружённых Сил СССР» given to marshals, generals, admirals, officers, as well as senior sergeants, sergeants, soldiers and sailors of extended service, who were in the USSR Army on February 23, 1968), Jubilee Medal "In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin" (awarded to soldiers of the Soviet Army, sailors of the Navy, troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, troops of the State Security Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, who displayed excellent performance in combat and political training, good results in the management and maintenance of combat readiness in preparation for the anniversary of Lenin). On the left side he also has the Russian federation Medal of Zhukov (Медаль Жукова), established in 1994 and awarded to soldiers for bravery, selflessness and personal courage in fighting, mainly in Chechnya and Georgia.
So according to the TV show, Ilya's father definitely participated in two wars.
He also has medal "For Valiant Labour in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945" awarded to those who had documents confirming the fact of work for at least six months in the period from June 22, 1941 to May 9, 1945, and Jubilee Medal "Thirty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945", but there is no chance he could be awarded those because Grigori should have been too young during the World War II. His other soviet medal is "Veteran of Labour", but he was probably too young to get it before the dissolution of the Soviet Union. OR he is much older in the show, like, born in the 1930s.
So I wonder how and why he turned into "police" from a decorated soldier, or vice versa.
