welcome to the greenhouse :]
i know so many of us have been trained since a young age to be so accommodating as to fear ever expressing an opinion, but as we get older we need to understand that being “accommodating” to the point of total indecisiveness is a very uncomfortable way to go through life, for you AND those around you. it’s ok to have an opinion on something. it’s ok to make a decision. your friends won’t hate you if you’re the one to end the “where do you want to eat” “oh anywhere is fine with me” discussion by suggesting a restaurant. you’re not high maintenance if you say, “noon is more convenient for me” when someone asks you what time you want to hang out. make decisions, have opinions, be part of the planning process, understand that you’re not being inconvenient, you’re just contributing.
YES THIS. I hate how many of us have been raised to think having preferences (or heaven forbid, needs) makes us an inconvenience to others. It’s so hard to overcome, but it really is okay to have opinions.
(goes through a mutual's blog and likes some of her posts) (a few minutes later my notifications indicate this prompted her to go through my blog and like some of my posts too) fren ship.........
ive never met her but she looks cute
This is wildly accurate.
okay this is slightly off topic but this story is too good to pass up
alright so my high school english teacher was the fucking BEST. we love that man. he was an english phd who was a professor but thought high school kids were smarter so he skipped out of his high paying college job to be the oh captain my captain dude and we were all so down for it. he taught us all freshman year, had a heart attack, pushed through and came back senior year and we were THRILLED. he sent us cards and shit saying he was so sorry he didn’t get to teach us this year FROM THE HOSPITAL. i adore this man.
i can’t remember what the book we were reading was for the life of me, but it was about rich ass americans living in europe and the central conflict was between old money mannered americans and new money wild and free americans you know how it be.
my teacher was also so open to whatever interpretations we had but in the middle of this book we were talking about how weird it was that one of the older old-money woman was so possessive of the main character (younger dude old money) and we couldn’t really figure out why she’d care. in the middle of this, my teacher puts down his book and sighs deeply.
“they have an extramarital relationship, you know that, right?”
the entire class collectively goes, “WHAT?”
“yeah. they’re a couple. that’s why she’s always hovering around him and controlling what he does.”
mind you, this class is a group of ap students at a catholic school. no teacher would ever point something out like this. it’s not in the book. someone asks, “it’s not in the text, though?”
the man starts LAYING OUT the historical context of these ex-pat american societies and shatters our minds. he’s sleeping with her to move up in social status and her husband KNOWS ABOUT IT and doesn’t GIVE A SHIT. it’s an open secret! this woman is TWICE THE AGE of the younger dude! she’s a milf on the loose with him and he’s BOTTOMING and this is a LITERARY CLASSIC.
he finishes laying this out and we are SHOCKED. the SCANDAL. the DRAMA! it’s glorious! we’ve never been so engaged in class!
i’m so shocked by the end of it for how hard he’s blown my mind that i just stumbled out “they’re fucking?!” out of shock and awe and he looks me dead in my eyes and goes “oh yeah.”
the entire class lost it

Student discovers 5,000-year-old sword hidden in Venetian monastery
A keen-eyed archaeology student made the find of a lifetime when she spotted one of the oldest swords on record, mistakenly grouped with medieval artifacts in a secluded Italian museum.
The ancient sword was thought to be medieval in origin and maybe a few hundred years old at most — but studies have shown that it dates back about 5,000 years, to what is now eastern Turkey, where swords are thought to have been invented, in the early Bronze Age.
The weapon was spotted in November 2017 by Vittoria Dall'Armellina, who was then a doctoral student in archaeology at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. She had made a day trip to the monastery on San Lazzaro degli Armeni, a tiny island on the edge of the Venetian lagoon. The visit had nothing to do with her studies, and she’d never been there before. “It was a pleasure trip,” Dall'Armellina told Live Science in an email. Read more.

Aliens for April…… why not
Bro please be nice aliens, like, please
WOAHHH that’s so cool!!!
Me expecting a joke video and waiting to see what hilarious item flys by on camera:
Me seeing what actually happens:
Reblogging again for the “April Aliens” part
Why not?
Sorry dudes, it’s the Kaguya Cadillac science mission
catching that mission on camera by accident is just as cool as aliens.
“I was looking at the moon and I accidentally captured footage of a once in a lifetime lunar mission that’s mapping the surface of the moon a quarter of a million miles away…” Now THAT’S COOL!
Wanted to finish up this cutie from the other day!! She really wants to have a cute sleepover but there’s only one small bed and she forgot her sleeping bag, oh no!! Whatever shall you do?! > w > 💖🌸💕✨
california anti-drought measures are always like “take shorter showers! consider brushing your teeth with the sink turned off” and never mention the fact that nestle is bottling all of our fucking water and selling it to people who live in areas with plenty of water
It’s like the Irish potato “famine” I stg
In California, residential use only accounts for 4% of total water use. Industrial use is 80%. Source:
http://www.alternet.org/environment/california-fast-running-out-water-blame-it-big-ag
This is true of any resource. Yes turning your lights off will save you a but of money. But industry wastes far more electricity than you. Yes recycling your garbage is good. But companies, like the retail chain i work at produce far more garbage than you ever could and do not recycle it at all.
Turning natural resource and environmental crises into individual responsibility is form of class warfare so fucking insidious
Honestly just burn every company to the ground or cut them off from electricity and water systems
Tax them heavily for their usage Make recycling mandatory or theyre fined Oh im sorry am i stepping all over your precious free market I hope to choke it out
“Part of the problem is that we’ve been victims of a campaign of systematic misdirection. Consumer culture and the capitalist mindset have taught us to substitute acts of personal consumption (or enlightenment) for organized political resistance. An Inconvenient Truth helped raise consciousness about global warming. But did you notice that all of the solutions presented had to do with personal consumption—changing light bulbs, inflating tires, driving half as much—and had nothing to do with shifting power away from corporations, or stopping the growth economy that is destroying the planet?
Or let’s talk water. We so often hear that the world is running out of water. People are dying from lack of water. Rivers are dewatered from lack of water. Because of this we need to take shorter showers. See the disconnect? Because I take showers, I’m responsible for drawing down aquifers? Well, no. More than 90 percent of the water used by humans is used by agriculture and industry. The remaining 10 percent is split between municipalities and actual living breathing individual humans….People (both human people and fish people) aren’t dying because the world is running out of water. They’re dying because the water is being stolen.” - Derrick Jensen (author & environmentalist)
No but seriously. Normalize finding love in your 40's. Normalize discovering and chasing new dreams in your 30's. Normalize finding yourself and your purpose in your 50's. Life doesn't end at 25. Let's stop acting like it does.
