it's very frustrating seeing otherwise well-structured posts about media literacy and critical thinking bookended with statements about "nowadays", "nobody has literacy anymore", "this generation is so anti-intellectual", and the like, unquestioningly falling into better past fallacies.
Do we really think the 80s and its Satanic Panic were better at critical thinking? what about the 40s? the Victorian era? societies have always had problems with critical thinking and literacy, because most societies have dealt with propaganda, corrupt leadership, difficulty providing education (due to poverty or discrimination or other issues), and/or people who resist critical thinking (due to privilege or circumstance or what have you). we can criticize media trends without pulling a "well back in the GOOD OLD DAYS" about it.
they should invent a secret second weekend so that you can see friends and do fun things while still having enough time to do errands and sleep in without dying of exhaustion all the time

This is the best tag I've ever received on a post, I think
today's reason I fucking love the open source community: Ageless Linux, a brand new Debian-based operating system specifically designed to break the law by giving children access to computers that explicitly refuse to track their age.
reblog this post to help a child break the law
oh goddamn this whole page goes so hard actually, please go read it. what an impressive, visceral takedown of this dumb law
why are all the actual real human jobs like baker and florist and childcare worker barely paying livable wages but the fake jobs like ai specialist boot licker or marketing campaign dick sucker making six figures
i have a suggestion
me too
Fun fact: in the 80′s the Dutch Unemployed Union held ‘fridge raids’ to protest against poverty.
They’d find out when a politician of big boss who upheld poverty and starvation wages was speaking at some public even, then they’d carefully break into his house with a LOT of people and they would eat EVERY piece of food in his house and leave the empty dished behind without taking anything else.
Direct action at its finest.
I theoretically disapprove, but at least it’s ballsy as fuck.
I no longer disapprove.
Growth
One time my brother’s construction crew didn’t get paid on time. So he went to the boss’ house at dinnertime and when the boss opened the door my brother walked right in, asking “what’s for dinner?” And while the boss sputtered and protested, my brother started going through his fridge, calmly explaining that since he didn’t get paid, he didn’t have money for groceries, and his kid was sitting hungry at home because they didn’t have dinner. The boss’ family looked on in horror as my brother commented on how much nice food the boss had in his fridge. Until the boss finally loaded my brother up with a bunch of stuff out of the freezer and managed to get him to leave. Everyone got paid the next day and, as far as I know, they got paid on time as long as my brother worked there. Who knew that being supremely annoying could be such a gift?!

fucking trans women - Mira Bellwether
Trying to attend anything in public just has me butting against the fact that being tma sucks. Yeah, that hema thing looks cool, how do they feel about trans women? Yeah, the trivia at the lesbian bar looks cool, so like their thoughts on trans women? Oh, that lesbian rave looks awesome, so about the trans women? Just, fundamentally unsure if I will even be allowed to exist in this space, and if I am will I be interacted with? Will I be the pariah desperate for attention but relegated to standing awkwardly in the corner or alone at the bar?
“You can’t let other people’s opinions dictate your life” and the “opinions” in question are people saying I should be stabbed in a city where a woman was stabbed 40 times for being like me.
Like we all WISH this was a “be yourself” issue but its not. It’s a “I don’t want to be hate crimed” issue.
hey. listen to me real quick. wear a fucking mask. give a shit about the disabled people in your life, please.
signed, a woman currently suffering through covid for the 5th time bc her roommates won't fucking wear masks anywhere.
The AIDS Memorial Quilt in Washington DC (USA) in 1996. Photo source: AIDS Memorial Quilt social media.
The AIDS Memorial Quilt was started in 1987 in the USA to show all the lives that were lost to AIDS representing them humanely and not just as a statistic. It was nominated to the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. The idea spread to other countries, and it was also done here in Catalonia starting in 1993.

The AIDS Memorial Quilt is present in over 40 countries, where about 100,000 tapestries have been made to commemorate loved ones who died due to this illness. It is the largest piece of community folk art in the world.
The Quilt has the objective of keeping alive the memory of the people who died of AIDS, but it also has an educational purpose, showing the diversity of people who were affected by it. AIDS was an extremely stigmatised illness because of its association to gay men, drug users, and prostitutes (even though it affected -and still affects- other people, too), that led to some religious leaders and conservative politicians to state that it was divine punishment and that nothing should be done to help the ill people. People with AIDS, their friends and family, and the queer community as a whole had to fight just to be treated like other ill people would.
Nowadays, it is known that the most important tool to not get or spread HIV is to be protected during sex and not share needles. If a person catches HIV, it can be treated with medication that slows down the virus from developing into AIDS so much that it extends the life expectancy to a standard level, so a person can have a normal life while being HIV-positive. For this, it's important to be tested to find it early. For this reason, the people most affected by AIDS in the present are people from countries with little medical resources, with the highest death rates in Africa.
In 2017, the Catalan AIDS Memorial Quilt was donated to the Catalonia History Museum. On World AIDS Day (December 1st) part of it is lent to the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Hall to hang it from the balconies, and it's also exhibited in other occasions.
King of the Hill is back! Don't forget Jonathan Joss (John Redcorn) didn't just die he was murdered for being gay and married to a trans man.
The next hearing for his murderer is August 18th I think. They asshole is more offended that he's being called a homophobe (he has a gay brother gasp!) than murderer (which isn't even in question he confessed immediatly and there were at minimum 5 witnesses)
The media tried to blame it on Joss’ past mental health and addiction issues. He's somehow also supernaturally strong and big and scary and that's not racist at all says white cops.
Please don't forget him. He was so proud and excited for king of the hill. You don't deserve to be murdered because a white dude says u need to die
A Two Spirit Indigenous Man was brutally murdered. And mainstream media has already forgotten about it.

Thank you computa makers
I believe you are transgender women
what is the second 'you' referring to?
The people that made the computers
I’m like 70% sure they were women and about 20% sure they were trans and together that makes 80% and I’m tired so I’m prolly wrong 😭
fair enough, i was thinking about the first works surrounding what would become a computer to be specific, certainly including women
i believe computa are transgender women too…
Hmmm maybe… lots to consider…
happy pride to the gay people in my computer <3
