Mallorca, is where I first fell in love with traveling.
I’ve been to Mallorca several times, probably ten at least. It gets me every time just how much it feels like coming home. I think it’s something about growing up on an island and then finding peace at another similar one.
Mallorca has wonderful landscapes, cozy restaurants and cafés and mile long beaches. As many places in Spain, Mallorca is, during its summer season, crowded with tourists from all over the world. The season stretches from April until early november. As long as the temperature says summer the tourists will be there.
I’ve seen a lot of Mallorca, but I’ve seen the most of Alcúdia.
Alcúdia is a town located in the north of Mallorca, there’s about 3000 people living there where most of them live in the so called Old Town. Alcúdia is a popular tourist attraction, especially for families (sounds like a place I know very well, and live in maybe??). Outside of Old Town there’s a whole hotel village, during summer season they’re all full booked.
Not a lot of young people come to Alcúdia just for the sake of partying, although the variety of bars and clubs might suggest otherwise. Just for partying, there is far “better” towns like Magaluf or Palma. You will however find that even though the majority of traveling sites will tell you about Alcúdia the family place, anyone else will fit in just as well as they do. As a young single person there’s no need to freak out about children running around or couples making out, because we all know both of those have a certain bed time. Whether you’re on a family vacation, friend or couples vacation Alcúdia has it all.
The different kinds of hotels all around the town are all quite high rated, there are adults only and family friendly and whatever else you need. My favorite among those I’ve stayed at is a little (read big) place called Sea Club.
I’ve stayed at this hotel three times and it’s never disappointed me. With its good location, a little less than 300 meters to centrum and 600 meters to the beach, and it’s white little apartments Sea Club is a place to fall in love with. They serve breakfast and they have their own little restaurant and even a little pool bar who serves smaller dishes (amazing fries by the way). Sea Club is built like a tiny little neighborhood, with pools for both older and younger swimmers. Wi-Fi is on the grounds and activities are arranged almost every day. I mean, I just couldn’t ask for better honestly.
If you can afford to pay a little more, there are some really nice hotels (at least from the looks of it – broke woman speaking) in Old Town Alcúdia too. They all have cute little names like Alcúdia Petit Hotel or C´an Pere Hotel. The hotels in Old Town all have something in common, best location ever. Old Town is pretty and petit and lovely, all the little houses, the coffee shops and the restaurants *heart eyes emoji*, and don’t even get me started on the little markets they have once or twice a week. Okay, confession time. I’m in love with Old Town Alcúdia.
Alcúdia is, as many other places in the world now, packed with fast food such as Burger King and McDonald’s type of things, but it does offer an even bigger scene with what I like to call “proper food”. Being on vacation is a lot about food for me, because that’s the time of the day when you sit down together with your travel companion/s and eat, enjoy life together.
I have, of course, my favorite restaurants.
Roma Pizzeria and Steak House
I can’t even begin to tell you how much this restaurant means to me. I’ve basically grown up here. This is, and always will be, my (and my family´s) top favorite restaurant on Mallorca. The service is great, the waiters and waitresses are so nice and they treat you great, making sure you have all that you need and want. The food is delicious, and although you’re in Spain they will serve mostly Italian food. Which is fine by me, because Italian food is the best. As far as alcohol and dessert goes I could probably stay there all night. My typical dinner at Roma would be garlic bread for starters, chicken in pepper sauce with baked potato as the main meal and then finish it off with Fresa con data (strawberries with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream). If I want wine I go with whatever my parents has taught me to love. They also have different kinds of cocktails, whereas my favorites are the boring ordinary ones, but sometimes I actually do surprise myself.
If you take the horse and carriage (or walk really far, it’s not that far I’m just lazy) from centrum down to the shore you’ll find El Yate. This is among my top ten. It’s got great view over the sea and lovely food as well as quite good service. The best part about this restaurant is actually the fact that you can eat a decent meal and then walk across the bridge and see the sunset. Sold yet? Ugh, just try it.
There’s some really great bars around town. Some in Hawaiian style, while others in english or american style. Whether you’re a drink sipper or a beer drinker, Alcúdia will find something that fits your taste. My favorite is the Hawaiian one just over the street from Sea Club Hotel. It’s got swinging chairs, long straws and the BEST mojitos.
For some sightseeing I always crave going on adventures to the mountains. You could also go to Marine Land, which is an outdoor aquarium, or the Zoo in Palma. But I like the mountains and the beaches the best. There’s a really nice lighthouse where we always go to enjoy the view and the coffee place they have up there. It’s called Cap de Formentor.
The view is amazing and the roads are terrifying. But I swear, it’s worth the screaming and shouting going up just to see the view.
The beaches all around Mallorca are all really, really nice. Alcúdia has some of the best ones, but around the island I still haven’t found a beach to be disappointing.
I hope I’ll go back there some day soon, I really miss this place. I wanna see all its beauty again.
