Tried to draw 1a timeskip but I got tired
I'm a very big fan of the “one of the ways Batman fights crime is by making the bad guys afraid he could be anywhere”. The “he’s not in every shadow, but he could be in any shadow” thing.
I think it would be fun to mix that with the way the rest of the batfam is drawn when they're in shadows:
the glowy eyes and splashes of vibrant colour, especially with Nightwing's symbol looking like it's actually reflective.
So now I'm thinking:
imagine if Gothamites realized that dangerous people get really uneasy when they keep seeing things that, out of the corner of their eye, might look like a vigilante. To the point that they avoid areas where, let's say, an old poster on the wall is just that shade of yellow that keeps jumpscaring them every time they turn. Or that old trash can that still has a patch of green paint that hasn't peeled away yet. Not even realizing what makes them nervous, just knowing that a particular place makes them jumpy. Stuff like that.
So to keep themselves a little safer Gothamites just start… adding little things like that in their neighborhoods. Nothing that outright references the Bats - stuff like that might get vandalised or just lose the effect if it's recognised, but things like:
- plants on window sills in flower pots or vases in bright colors
- little shiny trinkets in the windows that just might be mistaken for a flash of a utility belt
- colorful curtains get very popular for children's bedrooms
- someone sticking a piece of blue reflective vinyl on a chimney visible from the street, so that as you walk you see a little flash of electric blue when the light from streetlights hits it just right
- people painting a pair of dots with glow-in-the-dark white paint high up on walls by fire escapes or in dark alleys, that look like glowing eyes
So basically I want Gothamites to invent protective charms and amulets which have exactly zero supernatural properties and aren’t intended to have any, but still very much work lmao
ready for the trinity santos and dennis whitaker bestfriendship of all time on levels that no one else can comprehend. i need them to walk into the next season arguing about how trinity broke the coffee machine in the one singular way where it's unfixable. need dennis to talk about how someone tried to break into the apartment and trinity broke their arm in five places. they watch shitty medical dramas together and get genuinely angry at inaccuracies and use said inaccuracies to quiz each other. trinity took no less than 100 pictures on dennis's residency match day. dennis tells trinity that he's survived multiple tornadoes and her only reaction was calling him a loser because he's never been stormchasing. this isn't even all the thoughts i've had and i finished the finale 15 minutes ago
hello the pitt enjoyers, 4th year med student who just finished interviewing emergency medicine (EM) here to offer up some real-life scenarios for ur viewing and shipping pleasure, feel free to insert whoever:
sometimes when you do compressions, your lanyard is bouncing all over the place and someone will come behind you and drag it around your neck so it isn't in the way #intimate
similarly, if you are doing a sterile procedure and scrubbed in and your phone goes off, sometimes you'll have someone else reach into your back pocket to check your phone. first of all, a little butt grab never hurt anybody, and second of all, this is ripe with juicy material for seeing texts (for example finding out your attending had a sexy hookup the night before OOP who said that that def not a real scenario that happened)
i cannot emphasize ENOUGH how much of a party specialty EM is lmao. all the residents know exactly which restaurants serve alcohol at 8 am bc they need cocktails post night-shift. some residents have a literal frat house that they all hang out at on the random days of the week they get off and there's a basement where sometimes you'll find a random resident sleeping bc they were too drunk to go home and had a 7 am shift the next morning (whitaker-coded)
also: energy drinks all day everyday, especially celsius. trinity santos would absolutely be shotgunning these pre-shift
speaking of partying: emergency medicine regularly has resident retreats which get WILD and messy (as in i have overheard residents talking about doing lsd together, hooking up with each other, going into labor??)
and more partying: attendings will pretty regularly host sleepovers, journal clubs, dinners, parties etc at their homes bc they are rich lmao. not something i see dr. robby doing but perhaps some night shift people
residents really are that close which is sweet. i've had residents ask for my feedback on hinge profiles and scroll through their messages with matches with me (looking at u santos and whitaker)
so many tattoos and piercings on everyone
intern tuesdays! most EM residencies have dedicated educational conferences every week on wednesday mornings (i think - perhaps this is revealing about where in the coutnry i am lmao) so everyone gets the night before off and goes to like happy hours or sleeps over at people's apartment and stays out late
oh and speaking of wednesday conferences - sometimes they do fun little excursions like to the zoo to learn about snake bites lmao or to the beach where everyone's in swimsuits and they'll do a water rescue and drag a body out of the water and forget to warn all the beachgoers that this was a simulation lmfao, ripe with material for a comedy of errors type pitt situation
also perhaps revealing a bit about where i am again but a) EM is an incrediblyyyyy gay specialty i was SHOOK once i started talking to residents and faculty there is not a straight bone in that department b) in my experience on the interview trail lots of rural queer people are lowkey trying to come to this more urban location to train and be around gay people (coughWHITAKERcough)
residents frequently let med students (or honestly even newbie interns) practice IVs on them. plenty of time for yearning touches
when a resident offers to wipe down your computer station and keyboard with a sterile wipe and has to reach over your body to do so 🥵
residents will take drugs from the over-the-counter cart and self-medicate such as one resident i knew who (incorrectly) took antibiotics for some illness and gave herself c. diff (@ whitaker)
post night shift brunch! found family!
EMTs are consistently so hot. im sorry i said it. i dont think we know any EMTs yet in the pitt but i am Waiting
oh more yearning physical intimacy: when u have a trauma patient, you have to "log roll" the patient to inspect every inch and make sure you haven't missed anything. that entails crossing your arms over a fellow nurse/attending/resident whoever while you roll the patient and leaves plenty of room for some arm rubbing hehe
anyway this is just a start, feel free to adapt and go ham <3
I noticed this small detail in the Pitt when Mel and Santos are working with the young woman suffering from an eating disorder. After they have successfully figured out what caused her pneumonia, Mel goes into say she knows a lot about eating disorders because she thought she had one. In that short moment, you see Santos (who has been distressed and distracted all day because of what Al-Hashimi said) immediately locks in. She is completely focused onto Mel at even the thought that she may have had an eating disorder, and looks for confirmation in her eyes when Mel says she dosen’t. After she confirms that no Mel didn’t have any eating disorder, just was picky with food (which is another topic for another day), she goes back to being distressed and lost in her own mind. I know most people don’t understand Santos, but these little moments show a lot about her. Yes she comes off as brazen, and she is currently acting out of turn because of the threat of repeating her residency. However, she does care about the people she works with, and will instantly make sure their needs and safety is her top concern. She didn’t hesitate to take Whitaker in her home when he didn’t have a place to stay, she wants Javadi to celebrate her birthday because she does deserve it and she will forget her worries and focus on Mel if there was ever a possibility she was suffering something serious. Santos is a great character and a complex once yall really need to see that more.
the way that trinity santos's whole character was almost perfectly distilled down for a single scene in the very first episode of the entire show when whitaker had the blood blister under his nail and she sat him down and was so gentle with the needle she used on his nail that he was surprised it didn't hurt and then she wrapped up his finger in a little superhero themed bandaid and then she made fun of him for being a farm boy
her prickliness and sarcasm has always been covering up a deep well of kindness and it's always been right below the surface
the focus on the female characters this episode. dana taking care of the female sa patient, despite what seems to be some kind of personal history that might be triggering her. the female advocate and emma being there to support the survivor too. the reveal that baran was likely a survivor of a terrorist attack that specifically targeted mothers, women. trinity taking care of baby jane doe. the reveal about trinity's struggles with sh. samira's empathy, her intelligence, her level head, her drive to fix a broken system, at the forefront of the entire episode. mel's gentle and steady leadership when she can tell something is wrong with langdon. joy refusing to be talked over or out-performed. cassie ensuring the wishes of her female cancer patient aren't superseded by her husband's desires. princess taking on a leadership role at a second's notice. parker sleeping at the hospital because she gives this job everything she has and more. victoria feeling, and maybe actually being, out of control of her future, trying to be a good daughter for her parents. wow. wow wow wow this episode is so dear to me.
