oooo funny writing thing underneath the cut. i did this a while ago, i just remembered it now
“What happened to “Don’t get attached,” Saïx?” Axel says behind him. Saïx stops, but doesn’t turn to look at his former friend.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” His voice is harsh and thin.
“Oh, don’t lie to me. You and I both know how fast gossip travels. One person talks to another, and to another, and another, til I find out that you’ve been getting friendly with Sxajne.”
“How I am with V is none of your business, Axel. Don’t you have somewhere else to be, like eating ice cream with those children?” Saïx’s fists clench, leather creaking.
“I’m sure it is my business when my best friend is actively replacing me! I can’t check on you? See how you’re doing? You just ignore me or tell me to get back to work or make some snide comment about Roxas and Xion!” Saïx turns to look at him. Flames dance on the edges of Axel’s hair and shoulders, eyes dangerous.
It’s almost funny, if he could feel entertained by it, how the tables have turned. Jealousy is an infection, it seems. Truth be told, Axel was right. But can he be blamed? Axel replaced him first, getting attached to children who aren’t even important to their ultimate goal. So why wouldn’t he indulge as well? Besides, Sxajne understands him better. Quiet, reserved, willing to just sit in silence.
“You were the one who abandoned me first. Is it wrong for me to seek solace in another when I’ve been tossed aside?” He looks Axel in the eye, daring him to move closer.
“Shut up. Don’t come cryin’ to me if he causes you problems,” The flames flicker out, Axel’s shoulders slump, and he walks past Saïx, “And don’t get too attached. You know he’s close with Xemnas too, right?”
Saïx stands alone in the hallway after Axel leaves. Maybe he had a point. But he can’t dwell on it. He leaves, going to look for Sxajne.
