if you pronounce gif with a hard G because "that's what graphics starts with" then you should also be pronouncing SCUBA "scubba" instead of "skooba" (because "underwater" starts with an "uh" sound, not "oo") and NASA as "nay-suh" instead of "nassa" (because "aeronautics" starts with "ay" not "ah")
