i'm bringing this back since we're talking about sam's embarrassing old tiktoks because hearing this man say "frickety fudge" took 5 years off my life
I love how this post is reviving lmao, and as the original poster of this post and your resident Colorado local/granola girl who grew up with these activities: I will answer your parasocial questions about Sam skiing.
Q. Does Sam actually ski enough to use all frive pairs of skis that often?
A. Yes, he does. Man lives in Aspen (ski resort). When I lived in a ski resort (not telling you which one, but I lived there for 4 years), I was skiing twice a week every single week from late-November to around April (depending on snowpack). I’ve even been skiing in June before lmao. You get a season pass for like $1,000-$1,100 and it pays itself off after 10-11 visits. Also since Sam makes his schedule and works from home, he’s probably out every day or so during the peak season. With a season pass you can go for an hour, like an afternoon walk.
Q. Are all frive pairs of skis actually necessary?
A. Yes, all the different skis are necessary. If you care about taking care of your skis (which you should, they thousand dollar equipment), then having a few pairs of beaters is good. When you ski enough and you are good enough, you want different skis for different conditions. His rationale of normal, powder, normal rock, powder rock, and backcountry do make sense to me, he’s just rich enough to have that many. My skis are powder skis, which work well for all conditions because I am not rich. For Sam, if he is skiing into April every year, having multiple pairs of rock skis is useful because rocks beat up your skis. If you ski on rocks all the time, you have to wax more often, and you have the possibility of breaking your skis (my brother once split his skis in half from spring skiing lol). He also is good enough to backcountry ski so different skis are necessary so he can skin instead of hiking.
Q. How much energy does this man have??
A. Too much. Typical Coloradan. My brother is of the same breed lmao. Sam had run ultramarathons (like 100 miles of running type stuff), which I don’t even flinch at anymore because that’s just how active this type of Coloradans are. I’m personally wondering if he’s ever ran the Four-Pass Loop or the Leadville 100 (google both of those, I have hiked the four pass loop and glared in agony at people casually running past me as I was huffing and puffing).
I also really want to encourage people to embrace their inner Sam! Go hiking it’s so much fun! Go skiing if you have ever have the chance it’s literally so fun!! Going outdoors and exploring the wilderness is for everyone, and you can do it wherever you are you don’t need mountains. Find and support your local parks system, and just get outside! And when you do have the opportunity, visit Colorado and see them mountains. And make sure to do research to know safety precautions, the wilderness and extreme sport is no joke.
