Eventually Thor would take her seriously enough that it would be a real fight.  They’re on a par in terms of raw power and skill, and while Thor’s been around longer and fought more foes on his strength level, Diana is a lot more disciplined and likely has a wider variety of combat training.  (Also, not saying Thor is sexist, he knows women can be formidable fighters too.  He’s just, you know, cocky as hell and tends to get jobbed in the first round against anyone who’s remotely on his level.)

Are we basing this off the movies or a certain set of comics, or a specific series? I’ll admit I’m not much of a comic reader myself, but in the movie she is very young, no older than an average human adult, and it isn’t specified in many of the series. Thor was very much shown as being very much old.
