getting into transness isnt like “huh i saw trans people happy, maybe ill be happy if i do what they do”. thats such a gross oversimplification.

youre introduced to the trans narrative first. youre supportive, you listen. slowly you start to relate more and more, and that feels weird. it touches on childhood experiences (which for TIFs ive found are all just traumas from growing up female so far) or feelings of alienation from members of your sex (which can be related to being gnc or mental illnesses). you question, you try on a few pronouns or labels.

you start to think maybe this is the reason youve been unhappy all along. the more you ponder, the more sure you are because its p hard to mentally dispute. after all, all it takes is a “feeling”, so its pretty easy to mistake any strong desire to do it as the “feeling”. you start to make other changes that excite you. after all this time being feeling trapped in your life for one reason or another, you finally get to decide what you are and what you look like. every change feels amazing.

the regret never hits right away. you never realize what youve done. stop painting it like we saw someone being happy and went “thats it! ill transition!”. we were trans, we were a part of that community, we had reasons supporting that we were legitimately trans. not some ‘cis’ person just looking to take the first quick fix they could find without the true trans experience
