First year in the new house!
under the cut cos it's very long post:
finally, my own room, with doors, which you can close (and even lock! probably). it took only 30 years and 6 house moves
the absolute blessing and luxury of having a shower that works, has hot water and temperature regulation
sound of the outside:
cats are so confused that i sleep on the wrong side of the bed now and they keep trying to lie on my head
so many stairs
squirrel!
frogs, singing in the night:
never lived so close to a body of water, this is nice actually
the roof is not insulated yet, the rain is very loud:
peonies!
this light:
dragonflies!
this sound:
swans! with fluffy babies! 7 of them!
apparently, pipes should not make the sound (neighbours complained to the whatever it's called and they fixed it)
kitchen tiles! all cleaned up and in the kitchen and ready to try the composition
lamps installed! corridor looks like Wawel now
pipes are waking up neighbourhood again, they fixed it, again
wtf squirell, you could have left us at least a handful of those hazelnuts, like anything
finally, unpacked all of the books
this light:
...thanks work, i guess without you i'll have time to finish the kitchen or something
there are two squirells! that explains why they eat everything there was
so. much. quince.
pheasant!
goodbye kitten. i hope you're doing mischef wherever your next life took you
kitchen! finally! and it's so beautiful!
welcome back dishwasher, you were dearly missed
the window! (instalation of this stupid little window took over 2 months, 30 emails and getting exposed to racism against a group i'm not even a part off? and then a cat threw up at it)
dishwasher is great until you remember no one else knows how to load it
snow!
kitchen window goes to the street so i could witness a woman pulling a sledge full of snow, her one child with an armful of snow and the other trotting between them
three squirells!
there are so many birds here!
heron!
oh, ok. snow was making A LOT in terms of hiding how bad the yard looks. it looks even worse in comparison to the neighbours (i know that they keep it pristine cos they're just that kind of people, and also over the years made it to the point where it requires less effort, but it's slightly passive-aggressive to cut that hedge across from that after week of cleaning up still looks like it's on it's way to be illegal dump-yard😭)
ducks! welcome back
swans! welcome back as well
spend 6+ hours digging holes, planting trees and filling those holes again. trees look like sad sticks rn but maybe they'll be an orchard one day 💛 (unless they'll freeze or otherwise die. i did not cared for soil pH, wind direction or whatever other recommendations)
this guys:
common terns?! or a really weirds ducks
welcome back frogs! (so far i only saw the ones run over on the asphalt but that suggests there might be some alive and moving, to get on the road, unless they just spawn dead for visual storytelling)
long-tailed tit? trying to break in through the window?
yes, grow dandelions and peonies! grow and cover every available space!
the sad sticks have leaves! all of them! they survived spring frosts and they'll (hopefully) live!
it took only 11 months but i finally hang the pictures (mostly by wonderful @sadpinkunicornart ❤️). featured below, with a view on the mess and all papers i sorted by color the other day. we also hung big crystal (plastic) chandelier over the staircase because whimsy
(almost) finished roof insulation. we do it ourselves and it's taking forever (we started last year?)
lilacs! <3 and lilies of the valley. no frogs tho (idk if it's too early or somehow none of them survived) 💔
one of the sad sticks is blooming!!!
starting attic floors! as soon as we'll have polystyrene guillotine cos the rest of the styrofoam we have is too thick but hey, it was a lot of it and it was free
three sad sticks are blooming!!! and peonies <3
that's it for the first year <3 maybe the house is not perfect and needs a lot of work still, but it exceeded expectations anyway. and the area gives a mix of countryside, suburbs and a park, and i never lived so close to the water before, that's also nice.
