I can imagine herm being very eager to become a parent, but never really saying anything until you do, which probably results in you not having a kid until fairly late in the relationship
despite so eagerly wanting to be a dad, he is also admittedly terrified by the idea
hes scared to hold it, scared to feed it, basically scared to do anything that involves close physical contact because he doesnt want to drop anything (including the baby), and he doesnt want to just accidentally douse his kid in water trying to take care of them
I imagine when you do finally meet your baby, all that fear is washed away by an immediate need to be as close to the baby as he physically can
herm is just sad he cant do skin to skin (at least not right away) because his water runs on the colder side and nobody wants to risk messing with baby's temp
after bringing baby home, herm's fears re-emerge for a little while before he gets into the groove over the next week or two
you both split duties as evenly as possible, but herm often insists when it comes to the more spontaneous stuff, and you really cant do much but rest or supervise if youre nervous
early into the second week youre sitting next to him while hes cradling the baby, all three of you on the verge of sleep, before herm suddenly perks up a bit with a sort of short chuckle
you give him a quick questioning hum and he just smiles and say, "all for naught, huh? me- being worried, that is. its honestly just like taking care of- of grandma."

as the kid grows up, herm seems like the type of dad to be somewhat overly cautious, but never in an overbearing way
'be careful!' is a term spoken day in and day out in your house
overall, depending on you, he would probably be the nicer parent who lets their kids get away with things they probably shouldn't, because he might be worried 24/7 but hes also all for expression and exploration. the type to give a strict early curfew and supervise a trip the whole time but also give the kid a generous allowance (thanks SDN) to basically buy whatever they want because he taught them budgeting early and hes confident they know what they're doing
kid ends up bouncing back between two stores in a mall calculating if they really need that shirt or if that plushie would be better loved; and then they leave without anything just in case they need food or for an emergency- herm is so proud
and lets be clear- if you want, herm is more than happy to bring a sibling or two into the mix!! its honestly preferred, being an only (and lonely) child himself
also on the kid(s) themself, they'd be very fond of their dad, especially once they realize despite his own fears he's always very lenient and encouraging
plus they love his powers honestly. in the summer he'd always join them for games and water activities + his hugs would be fought over, and in the winter youd all gather by the fireplace or a probably dangerous amount of heaters and cuddle up, even if he was admittedly freezing and every single blanket in the house was wrapped around yall, he just felt so loved and it always made him a sap, 'how did I get so lucky?' every single year
god forbid your kid(s) have a messy or frowned upon power like his. any and all accommodations are made like his grandma would for him, and honestly? power use is encouraged in this household, because even if they have to align with the world to properly live like he does, he wants them to always have a safe place to come to and just let loose (big backyard ftw)
seeing them be so free heals him in a way he didn't realize was possible
he's probably been seen as a burden since those powers manifested, and most likely found solace in his grandma and her home since she clearly doesnt mind, so he always dreamed of being that for somebody else
when he sees his kid using their powers without much care despite what the world thinks, he sometimes wonders if all that negativity hadnt been paired with powers he had no say in, if he would've had better control over them rather than them almost being a nervous response
this would most definitely lead herm to training your kid- not to be a hero specifically (unless they were interested but even then that can wait till their older)- but just to generally have control over their abilities, chaotic or not, because after presumably years at SDN, hes got a much better grip on his own, but never fully under control, and if he can help it they will never have to worry like he did
robert (post some much needed therapy lol) definitely helps out with training, along with blazer
and speaking of the team, your kids are obviously so loved and have so many aunts and uncles, especially if youre both on z-team or you even just work at SDN since that'll probably keep them in the office a lot
robert is herm's chosen godparent. most of it is of course because he was most likely herm's first true friend in this world besides grandma, but part of its also because how cool is it to say your godfather is mecha man??
there is absolutely a world where I can see childless robert spoiling your kid rotten with nothing but a smirk on his face

doesn't go out solo bc 1. he's probably broke, 2. he cannot trust himself
loves going out with the z-team though; he just loves to be included
prefers fruitier drinks and only really drinks anything else when it’s offered to him
when he does drink, he drinks as slow as possible because any faster and the sudden mix of alcohol, water, and general digestive issues is not pretty
either way he throws up real easy. it's mostly water like usual but noticeably. off. definitely not useable in anyway like normal
when he's tipsy he isn't extremely different or anything, but he definitely gains some confidence, mainly just to hold a conversation
actively seeks people out and can hold a conversation better than when he's sober but he'll talk about whatever random shit is on his mind
will talk forever about the plants he's growing rn or how one of his cats misbehaved or something
the drunker he gets, the more touchy he is
will lean on you while he’s talking to you because he stops caring about the whole being wet thing- doesn’t matter if he’s resting his head on top of yours or throwing his arms around your shoulders and nuzzling into your back
generally depends on the other person’s height but it is special for some z-teamers
always grabbing robert’s waist; loves seeing how far his arms can wrap around him. Robert doesn’t mind too much but sometimes has to remind him not to squeeze to tight
while i do love the idea that sonar enjoys the feeling of getting his fur wet, i think he cares a lot about his appearance (when he’s sober at least) so he’ll forbid waterboy from his fur, but will gladly hold his hand(s); BUUUT if he’s drunk he dgaf (we’ve all seen the christmas art) so will actively encourage waterboy to nuzzle into his fur which they both enjoy immensely
probably just hugs phenomaman because like, wow, he’s literally out drinking with his idle rn this rules, and phenomaman is happy to hug back
visi, prism and golem aren’t big on touch (either generally or just because the water) so herm just holds onto something else instead- a chair, a pole, the table/counter/bar or whatever, pretty much anything he can wrap around
visi will also purposefully either stand around someone else or drag them into the convo and just laugh as waterboy moulds himself onto the other person
usually still avoids flambae and coop but if flambae is drunk he might seek waterboy out himself
lightweight herm
i see this hc the most often and honestly that's fair. look at the dude
usually buys himself a drink or two at most which is enough to get him tipsy, but the z-team love to buy him drinks just bc they think it's funny and he never refuses bc herman would never waste
can take like 3 or 4 drinks before issues arise if he's drinking slow, but if he's chugging for some reason it only takes one, and it might be immediate so stay away from the splash zone
z-team absolutely make fun of him, but they know when enough is enough, and they always make sure he’s doing alright
probably forgets most of the night after that 4th drink
he is literally always with someone
robert’s usually the one taking him home, but sometimes other members offer to drive (or teleport/fly) them there. robert always makes sure to help waterboy into bed
heavyweight herm
i see this hc a lot with the idea that his water makes it a lot harder for alcohol to actually affect him which probably makes sense
doesn’t even know his limit because he’s only hit it a few times and he was certainly not counting
honestly he’s not even usually drinking long enough to get that tipsy, especially drinking slow like he usually does
since it doesn’t do much he probably only drinks with z-team or at company parties and other stuff like that
z-team don’t fund his drinking nearly as much as lightweight herm because it’s like feeding a black hole
does get tipsy most more often than not! he can probably drink the equivalent of a case of beer before getting there though
z-team challenge him all the time
punch up, mal, and blazer are the only ones that can keep up with him, but sonar’ll be damned if he doesn’t try (and fail miserably every time)
flambae tried a few times out of pure ego but stopped when waterboy started getting cocky about it. he’d rather die than continue giving waterbitch ammo to do or say anything remotely cool/impressive
he does bet on him though
speaking of betting, sonar, mal, and punch up are absolutely forming some betting ring in the bar with him
he still throws up a lot, but it’s a bit easier to control and sorta just cleanses most of the alcohol from his system and he’s right back to where he was
still a fruity drink truther but he’s a lot more likely to order harder alcohols if he really wants to feel smth
him and blazer probably have a small bond over their power-related tolerances; if he’s really feelin’ it, he’ll join blazer in drinking a bottle

snapping out of it, you remembered you were on a mission to do your laundry. you've been holding off on this for a little too long so there's a couple things that you weren't sure whether they were clean or not

eventually the entire z-team knew about the mistletoe- besides you and waterboy of course. even robert found out and despite finding it to be an incredibly cheesy tactic; agreed that hopefully pushing you two in the right direction was a good move
with the plan set, all they had to do was wait
a couple other people in the office found themselves caught in the ritual, sharing what ranged from quick kisses to full on makeouts- a few of the z-team even getting involved, mostly on purpose
before you knew it, the day was almost over and only a few ongoing calls were left. with it growing closer and closer to christmas, you'd hoped things would be calm and maybe a nice grandma would even give you some rewarding cookies...
but alas, the day had been nothing but chaotic, and right now, you and waterboy were occupied with your last call. it wasn't your first joint call of the day, but for some reason robert had sounded almost impish in your ears this time
...
eventually- and you mean eventually- you two finish your duties and head back to SDN, ready to go home and just relax
but before you can even finish the thought of your cheap couch, mal emerges from a portal, greeting you both
"hey babes, sorry to bother but i could use some help real quick in the breakroom. sonar got his arm stuck in the vending machine and i was hoping waterboy might be able to slip n' slide him out?"
you gave each other a questioning look. first robert and now this? yet you followed her without question
making your way towards the breakroom, malevola suddenly speeds up, practically shooting past you two. waterboy tries to catch up for a second before looking back and falling into place with you again and sending a bright, quirked smile your way, raising his eyebrows awkwardly
god, he was perfect. those big wet eyes always doing their best to look at you in sincerity and that goofy smile he always blinded you with made you wanna kiss him so badly. feeling your face heat up, you quickly directed both your attentions to the rapidly approaching door ahead
the second you stepped through the door, you heard a few overexaggerated gasps and whistles, startling you both still
"ooo looks like some lovebirds just flew in!"
"don' be shy now lads!"
robert, standing next to the doorway, patted waterboy on the shoulder and pointed up- right at a small bundled plant
"i-is that..?"
"mistletoe. don't go crazy kid."
you watched in real time as waterboy processed everything happening in front of him. the mistletoe, the cheering crowd of z-teamers, and finally- you. staring into your eyes- and at your lips- for longer than either of you expected
you felt your face heat again, barely getting the chance to cool down from just a second ago, but this time you were spurred on with determination
slowly, gently leaning in, you took his sharp, wet jaw into your hands, pulling him closer to your height. for a moment he seemed to stop breathing, not daring to look away from you
the whole room seemed to still as you finally made contact with the soggy man, feeling his soft lips kiss back just a little too eagerly at first-a wave of content washing over you as he eased into it, whole body seemingly melting into your touch

opening your eyes to a half-lidded state, waterboy seemed to be transfixed by you, only able to dribble out a meek 'wow'
suddenly the room erupted into cheers and a couple groans
punch up was already next to waterboy, giving him a friendly smack, "good on ya lad! didn' think you had it in ya!"
"get it, h/n! show that boy you mean BUSINESS!"
"dammit waterbitch, you cost me $20!"
"cough it up, losers. told you mistletoe was a guaranteed dub."
