Walked into the library with my dead poets society shirt on and I felt SO pretentious

I remember watching Dead Poets Society for the first time, and it never clicked with me in my first watch that Neil had lied to Keating about talking with his father. Because of that, I never fully understood the weight behind Neil’s final scene as Puck within the play. Thus, my second viewing of the film in which that realization did occur, made that scene of Neil as Puck, delivering his lines straight to his father, hit so much deeper. For just as Puck asks for forgiveness from the audience should the play have caused offense, so to does Neil ask forgiveness from his father. Puck also calls upon the audience to think of the play as nothing more than a dream should they take offense. Because Neil’s father could neither cast approval nor forgiveness, the play and, thus, acting would forever remain a dream for Neil.
