Wrote a hellerby oneshot! It’s about Mordecai writing in his journal, trying to understand why tf he let Rocky stay in his apartment w/ him, and it’s in first person. (It’s a continuation of another oneshot i did, ‘A Miraculous Achievement’, but can be read on its own.)
Here’s the link if anyone’s interested!

I have a question about Pakrestica and the first interaction between Rocky and Mordecai. 🙇♀️
In the early chapters, we see Rocky arrive at Pakrestica and meet several men. Crow is the one who shows him around, dances with him first, helps him discover that side of himself, and, as mentioned later, Rocky spends the night dancing and kissing different men. However, when Mordecai appears on the balcony, something seems to change
What caught my attention is that Rocky is the center of attention for the entire place, playing the violin, surrounded by admirers, and enjoying the experience, but as soon as he locks eyes with Mordecai, he stops playing and goes straight to him. Later, during the dance, he seems to establish a connection very different from the one he had with the other men that night.
My question is: what exactly did Rocky see in Mordecai in that first moment? Why, of all the men he met in Pakrestica, did he seem to be drawn to him so immediately and instinctively?
Oh, what a magnificent and well-thought out question! For a decision I have made quite some time ago too, so let me train my memory for a bit.
Let's see. I believe the thing that truly caught Rocky's attention was the mystery. One thing I made sure to establish was how easily Pakrestica and all these men gravitated to, and how willingly they all coveted Rocky's attention. Then there was this shadow, a figure looking straight at him from high up in a view that could only be described as breathtaking. Rocky already had a thing with characters that seemed unattainable to him, characters he considered larger than life - just think Mitzi - so it made sense his curiosity was positively piqued.
It certainly helped that Mordecai is quite a looker up close. Plus the fact that he managed to keep up with Rocky, adapted to him almost seamlessly, and the whole thrill of finding out they were connected in all that was drama - Rocky could hardly stop himself from being besotted.
The rest is history.
A more dramatic redraw of the hellerby kiss for pride month!
(Drew those eyes just to fill space in the sketchbook lmao)
Og image!
Hi again!
Looking back I'm curious, did Sunshine ever find out at any point before he died that Hartland was in fact the Violinist lover of Mordecai??
I feel maybe when he finally saw Rocky without the mask, that he pieced it all together, and that it explained why Mordecai was LITERALLY going in guns blazing taking out everyone, yet we never hear him acknowledge this himself in the little time he had left? Like, I felt he would have threatened Mordecai by using this information during their battle?
Hi, thanks for another ask!
At the earliest, Sunshine could have realized Rocky's identity and true connection to Mordecai when Mordecai was mounting the tommy on the railing of the staircase and was letting the bullets fly. That was the first time he had seen Hartland without a mask, and the first time he had seen Mordecai in one. Afterwards he didn't have the time nor the care to threaten Mordecai anymore, considering that his men were getting slaughtered, and he had to think about essentially restarting from scratch.
I'm sure were he to win, and once he had Mordecai completely huskified, he would have targeted Rocky and the Lackadaisy again. But according to his promises - Mordecai wouldn't be cognizant anymore to react to that.
The Measure of Things
"Why not?"
Mordecai nursed the warm cup in his hands, contemplating how to best explain his point. "Because it's ridiculous. Doing so would generate an overabundance of goods that the system is simply not made to tolerate."
He raised the cup to his lips, savoring the way the warm liquid wetted his tongue, and for a moment, he almost missed the way Roark paused in his reply.
"...Well, they can always compensate," said the tabby, stabbing his fork into the stack of pancakes and raising the skewered folds to his mouth. Surely he wouldn't-
He did.
With mortified shock - as well as a hint of genuine awe - Mordecai watched as Roark made quick work on the otherwise hefty breakfast meal. He had never seen such a feral and disgusting display, the way drops of maple syrup would sputter and scatter all across the bartop. Surely, the meal weren't so delicious as to los3 yourself in you base instincts?
Amidst the gorging, Roark seemeted to stop, considerimg his partner-in-meal.
"Whah h'ome?" he asked, proposing Mordecai the chewed and dripping core of what little remained of the stack. The gunman could barely shake his head, utterly stunned. "Mo'e fo' me!"
Happy Pride Month, Roark Rickaby
You'd have adored the bright colors and the celebration of love. You'd have loved donning whichever flag you most associated with and enjoyed having a blast with like-minded individuals. You'd have loved being able to create a dazzling spectacle without being questioned and hackled, and instead, received encouragement for more. You'd have probably convinced Zib to go along, maybe Sy and Mordecai too, if the stars aligned so perfect.
Happy Pride Month, Dorian Zibowski
You'd have probably found this whole 'Pride' thing a bit droll, but ultimately harmless. For a bunch of outcasts to claim a month would have caused you great amusement and, hell, who was he to deny a free exxcuse for booth. That bisexual flag wasn't half bad a looker either, he could fancy up to these blues and purples and pinks.
Happy Pride Month, Mordecai Heller
Or maybe you are Elijah Metzger as of writing this. You'd have thought this whole thing a big waste of time. Too loud, too brash, if not just a little charming. The symmetry and the color varience/matching of the many different flags would have been the most value you could have extracted from this whole ordeal, and maybe that, for a day, women would stop trying to get you to dance, if only because they thought you had other inclinations. These small positives might have eased your frown.
Happy Pride Month, Sy
Not much I know about the way you behave or you stroll. Perhaps this month would be sort of a liberation to you aswell. Perhaps a grim reminder of what could never be with you and that Pole in your band. Perhaps you wouldn't care either. I doubt it, as you are a musician, so there is at least money to be made from the gigs. Or perhaps you'd be giving a run for Rocky's money of how obnoxious one can be about colors.
Happy Pride Month Serafine, Savoy
May the spirits revel with you on this joyous month, where those who are most in need of guidance received it, and those whose lives are truly without a single problem fumed at people's happiness. May your next month be filled with mirth and incense, guided by Bondye themselves, filled with fat bebettes and other savory delights.
If there is any other characters I might have missed, I apologize. I'm sure when the time comes they too get to show the true colors of their heart and fly it high and adorned. Until then, Happy Pride Month to all the Lackadaisy cats and fans who care.
Isaac's first words... 😅
Maybe my interpretation skills just aren’t the best or I simply missed it lmao, but in your(amazing)fic ‘Cross-Instrument Pieces’, why didn’t Rocky take the chance to murder Sunshine after the explosion didn’t work?
Marvelous question, one that came up!
It is something you could miss easily. A lot of things were going on in that scene, and it was told by someone who was dazed, confused. In short - Rocky didn't believe Sunshine was his to slay. He has already repaid his debt - ruined his estate, was about to ruin his life's work. No, Sunshine was Mordecai's to slay, which is why he let himself be captured.
Dramatic and needless reckless? Why yes.
Very much like something an unhinged Roark Rickaby would do?
Absolutely.

Learning How To Draw Through Rocky - Part 3
There be legs y'all.
With this one, I ventured onto the realms of full body, so I chose an exaggerated pose, one that highlighted his artistry as well as challenged me. This really did take one hell off an effort to coordinate - sometimess the legs were not legging, and when they were, Rocky looked like a resting slenderman or something. The Props, too - coordinating the limbs to look natural while interacting with the piano. It took a long time, but I'm proud of how it came to be.
Hello again!
During "Cross-Instrumental pieces" act 2, I believe you had mentioned that you had entertained a jealousy arc for act 3 involving Crow. That is until you went with the arc we actually got in act 3.
So, I'm curious, can you please share what you were originally planning for the jealousy arc that you were thinking of?
Hi, thank you for the ask.
Indeed, I have briefly entertained a 'jealousy arc' for Crow during act 3 which would have been the gist of his character development. As far as my plannings had gone, Crow would have tried to gain the attention and the love of Rocky by any means neccesary and he didn't fancy Mordecai being in the way. Thorough the act, he would have realized that Mordecai was indeed a worthy - or a worthier - lover to Rocky, and that Rocky was truly and undoubtedly smitten to the bone. In the final chapters, he would have assisted Mordecai while accepting that his feelings were not meant to flourish.
This arc was minimized, of course, for 3 reasons.
1 - this was meant to be Rocky's and Mordecai's arc, and thus was planned like so.
2 - Crow and any other OC I've made were never meant to be more than a supporting cast, no matter how close they hovered around the protagonists.
3 - There was simply not enough space for such a miniarc. I wrote the whole New York segment to be airtight narrative-wise, which, while allowed me to avoid plotholes and to end the story well, it restricted me from doing anything else.
These two have such a cool dynamic and I really want them to have more interactions
Time: 50 min and 17 min
Ignore that the ears look different I didn’t use a reference for the sketchier one and I’m lazy 💔
Can we get some Hellerby dancing please? I love your artstyle so much!
Sure thing! I hope you like this quick sketch, i'm still trying to get used to my new tablet
Time for some Tierlists.
Yes, I am very gay.
Yes, I am very biased and my taste is distorted.
No, you should not share my opinion to the letter, nor you are wrong for not doing so.
Any ship not on here I'm either neutral on, don't have much of an opinion on, or activelly dislike it. I didn't include these because A - the tierlist would be way too big if every possible premutation had a square, polyships included and B - I don't like to bad mouth other peoples' favorite ships, so let's just highlight the ones I at least enjoy in some measure.
PS - the Band as a polyship would be in 'you just like 'em'
Cross-Instrument Pieces, Chapter 36 and 37: Epilogues
Guess who's back! It's the gays of the roaring 20s!
Cross-Instrument Pieces, Chapter 36: Never One...
Cross-Instrument Pieces, Chapter 37: ...Without The Other
Or where the author tried to cram in 20k words into one final chapter and decided not to. Holy molly these characters have infested my brain.
Lackadaisy Sophistry has to be one of the most significant short comics Tracy has ever done for the impact it had on the fandom. Not only did it show us Mordecai in a casual setting - Mordecai with a genuine smile, no less - but it also showed us what would happen when somebody actually entertains, vibes with Rocky and his crazy, convoluted anecdotes. I don't believe I've seen so much chemistry between two characters in the entire comic than on that one page alone, and it singlehandedly made a lot of people go 'Yeah, okay, Hellerby might be kinda neat.'
Thank you Tracy.
