“What’s your story?”

“My story? Am I supposed to have one?”

“How is that going to work?” The witch asked and took one last bite of the overly dry raspberry scone. The cafe was admittedly one of the cozier venues Ivy preferred to visit, and the coffee made up for the hit-and-miss baked goods.

“If you sit there too long, the stone there will glue your bottom to the bench,” she said. “Slowly but surely the stone will creep over your form, and you, too, will be part of this lovely little scene.”

Admittedly, Ivy had a way of taking things one or two or seven steps further than necessary. A twisted sense of humor left her somewhat isolated, and frankly it worked well for the witch. Even so, her skillful manipulation of social grace and human behaviors left many feeling very close to her. It was an easy way to begin threading loyalty, and very few made the cut.

“I’ll wake up and come here, sit by the fire and maybe read a book and drink hot chocolate, and then I’ll go back to my room and sleep. Very simple,” Angelina replied with a satisfied smile.

Her brows furrowed as she listened to the strange girl describe her becoming a fixture in the fireplace. “That’s quite unsettling. I don’t think I would like that too much. It doesn’t sound very comfortable.”

She shrugged. “Besides, I guess I really couldn’t stay here for too long. I would miss the fresh air too much. And I also am hoping that it snows, so I wouldn’t want to miss that either.”

“ Under the water … Is that where you live? We do have seasons where I come from, but it is often warmer than in most places. It does rain a bit though, yet I wouldn’t say that’s a bad thing. If you’d like, I could give you one of my sweaters; I have a couple and, well, I only need one or two, three at best. ”

“Yes, exactly. I’m from Atlantica.” She didn’t really expect her to know what or where that was, but she figured it was good to offer it. “I’ve only really experienced rain once or twice, so I do hope that it rains here. Do you know if it snows here, too? You would lend me one of your sweaters? You don’t have to do that.”

“ It’s comforting, isn’t it? I myself am not too used to cold weather, and I have heard it will get stronger … I guess we’ll both just have to find coping mechanisms. ”

“It really is. We don’t really have seasons under the water like there are here, so I’m still getting used to it. I guess I’ll have to invest in a sweater.”

“Of course you heard that. No, I wasn’t hiding. I just figured you would be too busy with your new boyfriend,” she said teasingly, nudging him gently.

“It is pretty overwhelming, huh?” Lucca chuckled softly before rubbing the back of his neck slightly out of forced habit. “Are you new to the palace as well? Maybe we could wander around and check things out together? Exploring buddies for the time being?”

“It really is. I mean, a lot of things here are already overwhelming.” She turned to him and nodded, glad to find someone else that seemed new as well. “I am new, and I would really like that. I haven’t really done a lot of exploring yet.”

“A few months. I’ve known him for a bout half a year, though. I’d say we’ve been dating for about half of that time.” It had actually surprised him, how long it had been since he had first arrived at the palace. “You’re telling me… the last time I spoke to her I fainted… Oh— I uh… I d-didn’t mean to tell you that… that probably sounds worse out loud…” His brows rose hearing that. “Are— are you sure we’re talking about the same Nerissa?”

“Wow, that’s longer than I though, actually. But I mean... Nevermind. It just seemed so serious, the way Nerissa was talking about it so I guess it’s not so surprising.” When he admitted that he fainted the first time he spoke to Nerissa, she couldn’t help laughing. “I’m sorry, that’s awful. But I don’t blame you. I bet you were nervous.” She nodded. “The very same one. She’s not so bad, really.”

“I’ve heard that, quite a bit,” Micha chuckled. Tobias had even told him so himself, that he wasn’t really a serious relationship person before. “I suppose that does help, yes,” he blushed slightly. “I have to say… you are a lot less intimidating than Nerissa.”

“I’m sure you have. How long have you and Toby been together?” She wasn’t sure if Nerissa had mentioned that, but it seemed like it had been a little while considering. “Well, Nerissa’s intimidating to a lot of people, so that’s not surprising. But she seems to like you. At least, that’s the feeling I got from talking to her.”

“ Oh, he truly is. I am glad you don’t mind how I speak of him or how I see him; my brother was a bit uneasy about Noah last time we spoke. It was not our best talk but, well, he apologized, so I guess that is better than nothing. ” Though the princess still wasn’t certain of just how much she wanted to share regarding her almost - relationship. A bright smile appeared on Nerissa’s lips as she led the way to the pool. “ Thank you, Angie; I must say this is the happiest I’ve been in a long time. Years really. Also, the best thing about the pool is that the water temperature is always nice! At least that is what I’ve heard. ”

“I don’t mind it at all,” Angelina replied with a shake of her head. She couldn’t imagine being annoyed or put off by something like that. “It’s a good thing he apologized. But I guess most brothers would be uneasy, right? It’s not so strange.” Knowing Nerissa, she was most certainly strange about whoever Toby was dating, so it couldn’t be so different. “You’re welcome. I can really tell, and it makes me happy too. Wow, really? That must be a pretty incredible pool. You’ll have to try it with me sometime.”

“ I know, right? But you know what they say, love is love! And good, that is definitely in everyone’s best interest … I do think he likes me perhaps as much as I like him, which is a lot. Do let me know as soon as you meet him, I want to know your opinion and such! ” Hopefully it wouldn’t be as difficult to reason with as Tobias was at first. “ Should we start with the music room, or would you like to see the library? Oh, well, I really don’t quite know … Hey! ” She exclaimed with a laugh, cheeks turning red at her cousin’s words. “ Maybe, but is that such a crime? And yes, a pool inside the palace. Do you want to start there instead? ”

“That’s very true. I’ll let you know if I happen to run into Noah, but I’m sure I’ll like him. He sounds really nice.” She had no reason not to like him, and she knew that her cousin had such high standards that this guy had to be almost perfect. “No, I don’t think it’s such a crime. I think it’s really sweet that you have someone who occupies your thoughts now. It’s so nice seeing you happy. I definitely think we should start with the pool! It’s very intriguing.”

“Of course you have… I’m not sure, that I want to know what she told you, so I’d rather not ask. Well… so, now you know, that Toby and I are dating. Since June, actually.”

“Well, I was really excited to meet you because I’ve never known Toby to be so serious about anyone before. And I have to say that I like you a lot so far, Micha. And you’re cute, so I can see why he likes you so much.”
