Neo Angelique is out!

Three brief news items:

- A countdown began a couple days ago on the Neo Angelique: Tenshi no Namida homepage, with each day featuring a chibi pic & voice clip of a different character.  It's been Nyx, Rene, and Jet so far, with Bernard at bat right now.

- Also according to the site, Tenshi no Namida received a Gold award from Famitsu in its cross-review in the Dec. 14 issue.  This means the game got a score of at least 32/40, or an 8/10 average.  Famitsu is a publication that, let us say, does not use the entire grading scale, so take that as you will.

- A Neo Angelique Arcadia Carnival seiyuu event has been planned for February 11, featuring all the VAs but those for Eren, Camille, and Jet.  In conjunction, they've also announced a Neo Angelique Vocal Complete Box featuring 6 discs  -  56 character songs plus a bonus disc for 10,000 yen.

There are new videos up for the introductions of Mathias, Jet, Erenfried and Roche on the official Neo Angelique Tenshi no Namida site. I can’t get them uploaded here on mobile, but I did translate Mathias’s and Jet’s videos. It seems Tumblr thinks the text is too long to post on mobile, so here is just Mathias. The videos go by too fast, so I may have missed some of the text. Or some of Mathias’s scintillating conversation. Haha.

Mathias:

Suddenly, returning to consciousness from endless troubles, I noticed my surroundings were unfamiliar.

Angelique: (…..Oh? I wonder how I got here? It seems I got lost because I was thinking.)

Angelique: Well….. where should I go to return to my room?

While trying desperately to remember my path, I tried to return to the original location, but if I chose badly I would get more deeply lost.

Angelique: What should I do….. Nobody is walking so late at night……..

(Mathias appears.)

Suddenly I could see a glowing light and a person. It seems someone is walking with a lantern.

Angelique: (….a person? Shall I ask him the way?)

Angelique: (But, I will need to go to the other side. I feel that I will be farther away from my room if I go over there……)

(Choice:)

1: Follow the person.

2: search for a way home myself.

I got lost, and—

(Choice 1)

Angelique: (- I’m not confident I can get back to my room. Let’s ask that person.)

I ignore my fears that I may get lost more, I follow the person.

The person ahead is going steadily farther and farther. (?)

Angelique: I wonder how far he will go? Wait—

???: …….

I cannot come closer to the person, I called out is a loud voice.

Angelique: I seem to have gotten lost. Can you tell me the way?

???: …….

Angelique: (He does not answer….. I wonder if he can not hear me?)

???: ………

The shadow keeps going forward, unaware of me.

Angelique: Wait a moment, please….!

???: ……….

I feel as if I will be completely lost if separated further. I hurried to chase after him.

(Scene of Mathias with the lantern.)

???: ………

Finally I catch up to the man walking ahead, I call out again.

???: ……..

The man does not respond to my voice. He goes quickly again.

Angelique: (He has gone. I cannot catch up easily again…..)

Still I cannot leave, I chase after that person again.

In the novel Angelique Ibun (illustrations by Jinko Souma), Kurabishi Mukanshinnosuke wields the power of the Shizunoyami Ryuuansokuken (Sword of the Silent Darkness and Flowing Repose), butts heads with Juuriasu Tarou the town cop and yakuza ne'er-do-well Osuga, and fights Darth Vader.  

After I translated the Maren novel, a kind person on the LiveJournal community offered to scan this novel for me to translate, but I demurred. I may have been remiss in my judgment.

And in our fourth & last clip, Camille meets his double and, like Narcissus, promptly begins to hit on her.

Anyhow, Camille is also a pre-med student at Gardina University, just like Ange!  Wouldn’t you know.

In our third clip, Hyuga drinks herbal tea and seethes at the news that Ange will be living with Nyx.  Rayne seethes at Arcadia's recent population boom.  Rene seethes that he can't fit more gold on his outfit without busting the boundaries of "casual wear."  Everyone, Bernard included, fruitlessly ponders the mystery of where new people come from, betraying the inadequacy of sex education in Arcadia.

Seriously, though, it seems like overpopulation is becoming a real problem on this little continent.  Clearly, we need a new threat to cull the herds.  Or, listen, promo materials say that there's a hell of a good universe next door: let's go.  (Or, maybe...that’s where they’re coming from.)

In the second new clip, Ange arrives at Nyx's new manor.  Nyx immediately announces that J.D.'s moving in, then quickly invites Ange to follow suit.  Ange demurs but is ultimately swayed by the tight campus-town housing market.  Rayne wants to follow suit in an attempt to cockblock Nyx but can’t due to job stuff (but will eventually anyhow).  J.D. responds as J.D. always does: smiling and cooking up a storm.

I'm noting there are a lot of junctions here where we would've gotten the opportunity to weigh in with an opinion in the original game that we don't here  -  Nyx asking us if we like his new place, for instance.  It amounted to little but an adjustment to your affinity points in the original, but it would've been nice to have here nonetheless.

Backgrounds look pretty & lavish, though.

Four videos from Neo Angelique: Tenshi no Namida have been posted to the official site.  First up is Angelique’s reunion with Rayne. I find it a great comfort that the very first word out of this mouth after Anjeriiku is Ameijingu!

Here, Rayne & Ange meet up en route to Nyx’s new villa following an invitation from the gentleman requesting that the former Aube Hunters gather together.  Rayne and Ange, however, lament that they don’t have the opportunity to talk freely due to the presence of Rayne’s bodyguards. 

(Rayne mentions that he is the "managing director" of Artifact, and that Jorgo is still (at least in name) the big boss.  Angelique speculates that this may be only in Rayne's mind, though.)

There is this one trending hashtag on twitter where you can show your general preference in Neo Romance characters by mentioning 4 characters….But honestly I think I need to choose at least 40 characters to show what I prefer in the Neo Romance characters…And I still haven’t even counted my other high-medium level favorites like Murasame, Oshihito, Benkei, JD, Bernard, Francis or Myouga too here 😂

But now that I have lined my favorites side by side like this, there are surely some similarities between them. Heck! Some of them are almost like twins in term of appearance and personalities!! Serious, hardworking or passionate on/in their duty/field with a bit of gap moe seem to be the most common traits I can notice?? Somewhat grumpy and non-stereotypical younger types/kouhai are also my favorites. Meanwhile appearance wise, blonde or dark hair and purple eyes are also common among them??

Though again…my preferences seem to be still too broad to sum it up in 4 characters only, I guess? Shimizu, Haru and Ritsu could probably cover most of them, but I am totally lost at the 4th person 😅

The Neo Angelique: Tenshi no Namida Twitter released a promo video for stuff you can do at the manor: visit the former Aube Hunters in their rooms, read letters, and cook.  Not much info, though it does feature Rayne being evasive about a rendezvous he has that evening (and playing ehhhhh music in his room); Bernard sending a letter and again being creepy in that “wow I knew you when you were a little girl” way of his; and Angelique choosing one of the Ex-Aubes’ favorite foods to cook (Rayne: vegetable curry; Nyx: fish tempura; J.D.: Caesar salad; Hyuga: fish à la meunière).  On the one hand, cooking looks more involved now, as you have to choose the correct ingredients and preparation method to make a successful dish.  On the other hand, it appears to be only Ange doing the cooking, so we’ve gone back a step in the gender stakes.
