Iām here for women with powerful dogs!
My land lady is a 90lb 88 year old woman with 5 full grown Rottweiler boys. They sit around her when she gardens and watch her like the secret service. If you show up to pay rent they all stand up and stand between you and her.
Itās intimidating to have 5 pony size boys all staring at you until she stands up realizes itāa you and walks to you.
My favorite part is she wades through them like swamp water saying in her cute old voice āmoveā āmove pleaseā and each one she nudges to move wags his whole body at her touch and stumbles out of the way like heās been knocked over by a truck. It gives me life paying my rent.
Just look at her, isnāt she magnificent?!
Yes, she sure is!

Gulp! This may look threatening, but all these green moray eels are doing is breathing. Moray eels have to constantly open and close their mouths to take in water to breath. They just happen to show off their sharp teeth in the process.
Hereās one of the morays in our Splash Zone exhibit doing the same thing:

Fish keeping is a fucking trap. You buy them and love them but cleaning the tank requires the same motivation levels as gnawing off your own arm. BUT THEN YOU STILL WANT MORE FUCKING FISH

good morning everyone have an absolutely furious mongoose
Itās cuter when you recognize that the lion with visible spots is a juvenile. Thereās a very high chance the other lion that runs over to investigate is the MOTHER.
The first lion is asking for comfort because she was given a big spook!!! and she needs mommy to tell her itās safe and ok!!!! (Whatās cuter is that mommy clearly reassures her, and goes on to take the parent role of ādeal with the scream rat in order to protect my large and easily frightened daughterā)
this is all in all an adorable video 10/10

This is my motherās cat, Queenie. Queenie has some neurological disabilities, and as such, her tongue always sticks out. Also, her tail works in sporadic, unpredictable ways, and her growth is stunted, so sheās kind of large kitten size.
Queenie is far and away the most popular, best-loved member of the family, and it felt selfish to keep her to myself.
Black Algae??
Hey so I have some black slime algae and need some advice for getting rid of it.
I have a betta and two nerite snails in a 5.5 gallon tank. It has fake plants. Itās filtered but itās a built in filter. I believe the filters that it uses are carbon. Itās also heated.
I try and do a 20% water change once a week, but i havenāt for the past two weeks. I know. Awful. I did, however, do a massive tank clean yesterday to try and get rid of the problem.
Iāve got sand substrate and itās turned kind of blackish since this issue. Unsure if algae related or snail poopā¦
My betta eats twice a day and fasts for one day, he always eats it all so thereās no debris left in the tank.
Help please ā ļø it smells.
Do you have pictures of the algae?Ā
@betta-be-fliz
I scrubbed it all out so no, but this is what the gravel looks like and Iāll try and find some of it tonight. I doubt I got it off of everything
It looks a lot like this though. Coats my fake plants and the cave in a slimy layer that scrubs off on sheets
Ah alright, that looks like cyanobacteria. Itās not actually algae, but photosynthetic bacteria (and a pain to get rid of fwiw) and it does smell terrible.
It often thrives in low-nitrate environments because it can fix its own nitrogen and can end up out competing other plants.
You should start with a 3-day blackout - cover the tank up with something so that no light penetrates. Your fish will be fine without food for this time.
After the blackout I would suggest doing a large water change and adding in some easy, fast-growing plants like hornwort to absorb nutrients out of the water column. Water wisteria and pennywort are other easy, fast-growing plants that go nuts in my low-tech tanks. Youāll also want to make sure that your fertilize well so that the plants are able to out compete the cyano.
Good luck!

Do you have any advice for growing plants in a tank? I started off with anubias, an Amazon sword, and one other lowtech plant and they all turned black and died. I had root tabs and was dosing the water with leaf Zone.
Itās just crazy expensive to have plants that youāve gotta replace every few weeks š¤£
Do you have a decent light for your tank? Anubias and swords are super undemanding, so if they died, that seems the most likely culprit. Additionally, if the rhizome of an anubias is buried, theyāll die, as they absorb nutrients through it.Ā
I'm honestly not sure. I have a topfin 5.5 aquaponics tank. It has strip lighting under the planter area with 3 or 4 white LED bulbs but PetSmart wasn't very helpful when I asked for the specs. I mean they don't even make the same filter for replacing the filter.
The said to use the one that goes in their 2 gallon and, sure, it works... But it's much smaller than the other one so I have to be super sure it's wedged close to the intake area or it'll just go around it.
