Intro post!

Hey guys! My name is Alex, or you can call me Rory. My pronouns are they/he/bee, and I identify as genderqueer. I'm 18 years old. i live in eastern USA, and have my whole life. This is my side blog, you can also find me at @nanosarous for more positive posts. I'll probably post about my struggles with mental and physical health mostly. If you're against self-diagnosis (dxes are not in the cards for me right now) this page is not for you. I currently am working with the diagnoses of AuDHD, anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder, depersonalization/derealization disorder, Reynauds syndrome, EDS, and POTS.

and people will say this about the stupidest shit of all time. a diabetic child is like "this is my glucose monitor! these are my ketone test strips!" and people are aghast "no baby should have to know about this!!!!" okay so youd rather his mom just poked and tested him and injected insulin and collected his urine without explanation? you genuinely would prefer this child live in fear and ignorance about the daily routines of his life? because like no amount of pouty faces and prayers and condescending instagram comments are going to remove the illness from the child's life so our options are being informed about our bodies or being confused/frightened by them.

Children are people. Their lives and support needs and dignity matter. People deserve the language to describe what's happening in their lives, the support of community when they want to learn about it, and the dignity to have their reality acknowledged.

When AN ADULT wishes "a child didn't have the burden of knowing" that difficult, sad, or ugly things exist - and especially when the thing is racism, or abuse - they just mean themselves. They mean THEY don't want the responsibility of responding appropriately, making space for the ways people may have different needs, or having to digest and work around how that makes THEM feel. They long for an innocence they are projecting on that child: innocence never serves its possessor. Innocence is the name given to ignorance which serves the comfort and convenience of others. It is disempowerment. It is greater vulnerability to harm.

The child who has been educated and empowered, on the other hand, has been dignified as a full person, and will go on to educate and empower others as a knowledgeable member of their community.

I work with kids and I've had two occasions where a little boy straight up won't listen to anything I say because I'm a woman. and like yeah he's gonna continue to be raised by terrible role models and probably grow up to be a sexist douchebag but I have three hours a week to get through to him and so far I'm crushing it. I got six year old boys who previously didn't listen to a word I said telling their shitty dads to not speak to me like that. yeah that's right I'm the teacher making your kid woke. go fuck yourself about it.

this is just a friendly reminder that you can't "go nonverbal" nonverbal is not being able to talk at all, however, there are other terms to use if normally you are verbal, but at times are unable to speak (verbal shutdown, situational mutism, verbal loss)

You dont "go nonverbal" when you regress! Nonverbal is a PERMANENT STATE that disabled people experience. Using that terminology wrong directly spreads misinformation about people who are ACTUALLY nonverbal and that's NOT COOL. It gives the idea that nonverbal disabled people can just "go nonverbal" and then come out of it, or that theyre "choosing" to be nonverbal, or that it's "temporary."

Its NOT nitpicking over terms. Nonverbal is a term for disabled people who dont have the ability to speak. It is NOT a term for age regressors who regress so small they can't speak, or for people who get overwhelmed and stop being able to speak. Stop misusing terms for disabled people. The nonverbal community have asked TIME AND TIME AGAIN for it to stop being used in this way, and it's the same as saying "im so OCD" when youre being clean, or calling every headache a migraine!! Even if you're also autistic/neurodivergent/disabled, losing the ability to talk while regressed DOES NOT make you nonverbal.

it's very fucking important to learn about black American history in full detail because they are dead set on erasing and fabricating our trauma filled history. it is detrimental to civil rights as a whole.

One of my favorite activities is traumatizing crackers with lil snippets of what they’ve done to us. Some of my favorites include:

The “last” non-prison chattel slaves known to be released in the US were released in the 1960s. Like 5 years before the civil rights movement. My (Black, tbc) dad was born while other Black folks were still enslaved. I’m only 29.

Speaking of my dad, he was part of bussing and desegregation as a high schooler. Note again, I’m only 29.

There are still schools being desegregated as recently as the past decade. Not just redlining, etc. literal “we don’t let Black people in these parts” type segregated schools.

I’ve met multiple Black folks, including myself, who were functionally enslaved to a white at some point during their life. We weren’t legally their property via contract/deed but that didn’t stop her from hunting me down like a fucking dog across fields and through alleys while I tried to escape her with nothing but the clothes on my body.

At least 200 sundown towns are known to still exist in the US. For those who don’t know, cities where “the sun better not go down on you in (city)”. Because if you’re Black you won’t be seen again. Lotta Black folks outside cities know at least one family member or friend’s family member who got caught near one and disappeared.

MOVE Bombing in Philly, 65 predominantly Black homes destroyed to kill 13 Black separatists, half of them kids. In the past decade it was discovered two of the bodies weren’t returned to the families and ended test cadavers in multiple universities.

I think it's more honest, and less loaded. It's all food, some of it is more appropriate when you don't have the spoons left for food prep. It takes slightly more energy to peel a banana than to open a bag of chips.

We try to save the convenience food for days when we need something easy, so eat a banana.

So, I had to do a bunch of therapy as a kid because I had anorexia. My dietician drilled into me "food has no moral value. there's no such thing as Good Food or Bad Food; if it's edible and you're not allergic to it, then it has a use in your diet, even if that use is just 'enjoy eating it'. Enjoyment is part of your diet and happiness is a vital nutrient." Basically, even if ice cream "isn't healthy," if it helps you feel better after a shitty day then it's fulfilling one of your basic needs: happiness. So eat the fucking ice cream and feel better. ENJOYMENT IS PART OF YOUR DIET AND HAPPINESS IS A NUTRIENT

I have a lot of guilt attached to “convenience food” because in my brain the fact that it’s easier means I’m lazy and bad for choosing that instead of the more difficult option, and I’m wasting my money.
