like it does matter. it does in fact matter. you can feel it when you're the only nonwhite person in a room and it is fucking weird. you can fucking feel in your body how uncomfortable and strange it is to only have white people in a space. it's deeply unsettling and deeply unenjoyable for everyone but the white people.
white people get the privilege of never having to think about how society will treat them for their race, white people get to always see people just like them. white people are always the default model in advertisements, the person on a book cover, the actor on tv. when you apply this to queer spaces you realize that fuck, okay, we only have models of what white queerness looks like. we only have a roomful of white queer people, we're not ever considering what it looks like to be black and trans, to be middle eastern and lesbian, to be south asian and gay, to be indigenous and intersex, to be hispanic and nonbinary. you're just white. and when you're white you don't even have to say that you are, when you're white you know you are the default and that most other people you meet in a queer space will probably be just like you. we have fucking nothing. we have a default, and even when we slightly stray from the default, we stay as close as possible to it. we only have white people because only white people exist, clearly
Having your interests mocked as a kid and general low self esteem will have you insulting the things you like even when they're generally considered very good. Because you like it, and historically when you like something it's stupid and not worth anyone's time. So you will say nonsense like "I recommend this book/game/film, but it's okay if you hate it, it sucks, I really enjoyed it but that's because I'm an idiot" and you are recommending them the Citizen fucking Kane of that particular media type. And importantly: you need to stop doing this it is killing you
I am fully willing to believe that a significant portion of Nikke isn't intentionally written as being sapphic by the writers, and they're just writing incredibly compelling lesbian love stories entirely by accident.
But then there's one or two where like, they have to know what they're doing. There's no way you could write this without making it THIS gay on purpose.
And of course there is the layer of it being a game made in South Korea, which begs the question of how much of its sexuality and presentation is what the writers want to say with the story and characters VS what the writers feel they have to say to not get attacked by the Incel Gamer demographic that they are ostensibly marketing to for profit.
Like how much ambiguous homoerotic subtext between women is the unintentional result of writers that don't know they're writing lesbians, and how much is the writers begrudgingly toning to down because they'll get tangible death threats if they make these girls kiss on screen?
Praying that $1500 randomly comes to you when you need it the most this year.
Okay inflation is crazy.
We bumping up the price to $15,000 for 2026.
We need to bring “read another book” type energy to like, fandom in general, and I’m not joking.
If you could go back 20 years an get people, at scale, to expand their taste in fiction beyond Harry Potter, we would not be here right now.
People focusing on the Harry Potter series on this post are missing the point.
The point isn't that Harry Potter itself is the problem, it's that a large fandom obsessed with one work, and only one work, to the exclusion of all other works, combined with a rapturous devotion to that specific creator, resulted in a socio-political landscape where one very popular author of children stories can single-handedly swing a society into a genocide.
Deadly egg recall
The FDA has upgraded an egg recall issued last month to “Class I,” its highest risk level, as it warns the public that consuming the products could cause “serious adverse health consequences or death.”
The recall of 1,589,577 dozen white-shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs was initially issued by Midwest Poultry Services in late July, which warned they might be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis.
According to the company, the eggs were produced and distributed from farms in Texas between June 6 and July 3 and have sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17. The recalled egg cartons have either the code P-1950 or 0840962 and Julian Dates between 157-184.
source: X
Recalled eggs were shipped to foodservice and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Recalled eggs were available to consumers at Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana; Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana, and other smaller retail and foodservice outlets in these states plus Mississippi and New Mexico.
Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and New Mexico are the currently affected states.
in case folk outside the UK aren't abreast of our news, the British press just hounded a black academic to death
a rough timeline of events (from memory, there may be inaccuracies, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)
Cambridge professor of sociology Jason Arday is accused of plagiarism by another academic
the accuser is a "race realist" who believes that in a true meritocracy all university professors would be white. this is somehow not acknowledged much during the entire ordeal
this leads to several days of media coverage demanding an investigation, or that Arday is expelled from his post immediately
somehow this accusation that has no effect on the lives of 99.99% of the population becomes FRONT PAGE NEWS in all the newspapers for multiple days, above anything else happening in the UK or the world at large
following intense media scrutiny, Arday resigns his post as a Cambridge professor
today, august 14th, days after resigning, Arday is found dead at his home in Battersea
the British tabloid press remains, and will always be, fucking evil
Went to google more news about professor Jason Arday, and I swear to God the first two pages of research are rancid propaganda sites smearing the man's reputation, up to and including popular Brazilian news magazine Veja.
This article by professor Kehinde Andrews clarifies more about the story of racist harassment Arday has been suffering since he fucking got a teaching job at Cambridge in the first place, in 2023, as the FIRST Black professor in that fucking stupid institution, who sure is taking it's sweet time defending their worker, despite already fucking checking his work for plagiarism and saying he didn't do it:
https://www.voice-online.co.uk/opinion/comment/2026/08/07/ardays-resignation/
Arday's resignation has reignited questions about race and who is truly accepted at the highest levels of British academia
Several of the academics who harassed this man into suicide do not seem to have suffered at all in their academic careers. Actually, Dave Harris, who lost his Emeritus title for his racist behavior back in 2024 (something the news only call "criticizing Critical Race Theory", instead of "sent racist emails to fellow black academics"), was defended by Plymouth University, where he used to work, and fucking got the title back earlier this year.
A couple things about the above.
1. He wasn’t the first Black Professor at Cambridge, but he WAS the youngest X
2. He was ALSO autistic, and nonverbal for the first 11 years of his life X
The rest of the story unfolds pretty much as described. And he was a fucking Sociologist studying racial equity in schools and academia. They publicly bullied a black autistic man to suicide for being imperfect whilst asserting a place for blackness in academia.
"why is tenna so popular when queen is objectively funnier" fear. The skill required to accurately portray queen, to have the same comedy skill as she does, to land those jokes so effortlessly as Toby does with her, is something only the brave, the skilled, or the foolish attempt. Tenna is easy. If you mischaracterise him, it's whatever. But do queen wrong and you will feel like an utter fool. A poser. A fake fan. She was a gift far too grand for us. How the fuck do you beat "I'm A Mother. I Can Give Birth. To Delirious Slams"
"I think you can be a mother... Without giving birth?"
"Prove It. On The Court. Right Now"
How do you do that. How do you reach this level of hilarity. If I write a shit post, a comic, an ao3 fic, and the reader isn't pissing themselves laughing, punching their leg and falling over in their chair then I failed and I deserve to be beheaded post haste
The youngest ever Black professor at the University of Cambridge was hounded to death by the UK media. RIP Professor Jason Arday.
My thoughts are with his friends and family first and foremost, but also with Black Brits in general (and especially Black British academics and students) who will undoubtedly continue to take the brunt of this hate campaign.
Black academics are so courageous, I'm so sorry.
And of course the same media outlets who cheerfully participated in the witch hunt are now shutting off their comments and deleting social media posts and articles. It's too fucking late.
Where are the "men's mental health" brigade? Oh that's right, they were the first ones to join the baying mob that killed this man.
I WILL NOT BE SHUT ABOUT THIS FOR WEEKS.
Just so we’re clear, if I point out that you did something racist, that’s not the same as me thinking you’re irremediably terrible. You did a racist thing.
You think you don’t do racist things, homophobic things, etc? You do. I caught myself in fat phobic and homophobic lines of thinking/speech just this morning. I’m fucking gay married. Nothing disqualifies you from acting in a way that reflects the society you exist in. We are obliged to fight it. Why not fight it in honesty and with camaraderie?
