Sakura centric fanfics, specifically older ones, are interesting to read because they get Sakura's character so well, develop her so well while using the canon-backed personality of others to cause one shift or another.

They're also annoying because they villainize the ever loving hell out of Ino. It was funny the first two times, but then it became a trend I don't like at all.

Ino is not a massive bitch that bullied Sakura nor did she end their friendship over a boy - that was Sakura. And Ino may have been mean when Sakura decided to declare her best (and only) friend as her rival, but Sakura was just as mean and worse.

You can have a Sakura centric fic without bashing the girl that not only saved her from bullies, but also helped her with her abysmal confidence and genuinely cared about her even AFTER Sakura started treating her like crap over a boy that didn't even know Sakura existed.

Which, for me, was always a major factor in my disdain for the Sakura-Ino friendship discussion. Sakura does all of that and Sasuke doesn't know her and later genuinely seems to hate her and yet somehow Ino is the one fanfic writers decide needs to apologize and beg for forgiveness? Seriously!?

the thing about media literacy is that understanding why the author chose to specify that the curtains are blue is the same skill set as understanding that the way the author characterizes all black characters as angry or all chinese characters as meek and silent is racist. it is the same skill set as being able to identify when a news source is biased or when someone is feeding you propaganda. the ability to ask "why did this person choose to present this premise in this specific way?" is a critical skill in a world full of misinformation. why are the curtains blue? maybe it's a characterization detail. maybe it's extraneous worldbuilding. why is this character written as being right all the time? maybe you're intended to disagree with them. maybe it doesn't matter. maybe you should still ask why.

The funniest scenario to me is Eddie, a would-be criminal, trying to be a real criminal but unfortunately, he picked Steve as his target and Steve just will not get with the picture.

Eddie spots this preppy rich kid wandering around, clearly lost, and decides that he’s going to rob him. He’s been following the kid for a block and a half, waiting for the perfect moment, and then Steve stops.

He turns on his feet and approaches Eddie like, “You’re heading to this FemLit poetry thing, right? We can find it together. Come on.”

Steve is rambling on about supporting his soulmate - “Platonic. She’s a lesbian and I’m single. I am single.” - and how Robin always gives him shitty directions so he’s always lost.

Eddie had to recalibrate his brain to this sudden change before he tells Steve to give him his wallet. Steve is just like, “I’m pretty sure it’s a free event. I’ll play the entry if there’s a fee as a thanks.”

Eddie opens his mouth. Closes it.

“Do you have a friend preforming?” Steve asks. “Or a girlfriend?”

It takes Eddie a second but.

“…Are you flirting with me right now?”

“Yes,” Steve answers. “Is that okay?”

“I’m -“ Eddie pauses. “I’m literally robbing you right now!”

“Oh.”

Steve looks at Eddie. He looks at the ground. He looks left then right, and then up at the sky before his gaze settles back on Eddie.

He smiles something a little fond, “You sure?”

Not to derail this post by any means but they do the exact same thing at some shrines in Japan and it messes with the structural integrity of the buildings.

They also do this with love locks (probably in a lot of countries) but specifically at this one bridge in Prague that regularly get removed by city officials as well as a youtuber who tries to educate people that love locks add a lot of weight to the bridge and can seriously affect the structural integrity of the bridge.

Tourists, stop being assholes. It doesn't matter if the guy in front of you is doing it, stop trying to "leave your mark" in places. Your coin/lock/whatever random shit you're using to harm the places you visit will eventually be removed by a professional and your special mark will end up recycled or trashed.

It got so bad that the National Trust had to issue a warning telling tourists not to leave socks and painted rocks and stuff, because it's harming endangered wildlife in a national park
