I'm Cully, I'm old and decrepit because I have a toddler sapping all of my brain cells and energy from me like an energy-stealing vampire. I'm not on tumblr a whole lot, but I'm trying haha When I'm not on tumblr, I'm adminning for the Dragon Age Fanfiction discord server. You can find me usually working on my WIP there, unless the energy-sapping has finally worked and I am a puddle. Then I have to find my way back to becoming human and that sometimes takes 8 months and zero writing. Whoops. "WIP?" You ask.

“I didn’t take Blackwall’s life,” Thom said before she could speak.  “I traded his death. He wanted me for the Wardens, but there was an ambush.  Darkspawn. He was killed.  I took his name to stop the world from losing a good man.  But a good man, the man he was, wouldn’t have let another die in his place.”

There was no chair for her to sit, so she slid down against the bars of the cell, her back to his, although they could see each other in their respective peripheries.  “It’s hard to stop a lie once it’s begun.”

Chapter 6 - Where the Sky Was Kept Back

She wrapped the cloak tighter around her and searched for the rooftops she should be able to see from here. And there they were, sitting broken atop a pile of stone that matched the surrounding mountains. She’d have to wade through the snow to reach it, but the coat would keep her protected from the elements. As long as she didn’t fall, either from the heights or as prey to whatever hunted in these passes, she’d make it to the fortress.

She took a deep breath, and set off.

Chapter 7 - The Orb of Fen’Harel

In the keep the ceiling had fallen in, but the walls were intact, as were most of the windows. Not that she worried too much, the magic in the air kept the worst of the weather out anyhow. She’d yet to find a spot within the battlements where it wasn’t summer. The gardens were a jumbled, overgrown tangle, and most of the rooms lay scattered with broken furniture, but they weren’t her true objective, so she ignored the mess.

She did gaze up at the tiers of the rotunda, however. The walls on the ground level were of course bare, but she had seen a memory of them covered in frescoes once. It must have been glorious in person. She dragged herself away from the space Solas had made his own while with the Inquisition and kept up her exploration. She needed to find the Undercroft, and from there, the entrance to the older foundations upon which this keep was built.

As the years go by, it becomes more difficult for Merrill to remember their faces.

Still, she tries to. She remembers Pol’s nervous smile when he'd finally learned how to knot a halyard; the distant look in Paivel's eyes when a story started getting away from him; how Marethari would stare down her nose at Merrill when she'd failed to meet the expectations that had been set for her.

She sometimes forgets Halevune's face, too, even when he's stood right in front of her. His face is gaunt, dark shadows carved into his face by the fire between them. His hair is brittle, white, like winter's grass, she thinks it would fray if she rubbed it between her fingers. When he smiles (if he smiles) some semblance of her old friend is reborn, and when he doesn't, Merrill looks to Kieran.
