*cracks open a bag of candy and a jar of salt* SO, HALLOWEEN PSA TIME
He was an activist who inspired millions to fight for their rights. He knew what was wrong with our country and risked his life to help his people achieve equality. In the society where black were treated like animal he did everything possible to change this. His brave soul, his will and courage changed the history of America , changed the people. He made us believe we can win this war. He payed for it with his life. He will always be remembered.
I know it’s Force Friday, but this needs to be what we’re talking about today.
Munroe Bergdorf is a Black trans woman and activist who was awarded a contract with L’Oreal Paris earlier this week. She was set to be the first trans woman to star in a L’Oreal campaign – for True Match, a makeup line designed for women of all skin tones that features a wider selection of shades than most brands.
After the events of Charlottesville weeks ago, Munroe made a post about systemic white supremacy on her Facebook.
‘Honestly I don’t have energy to talk about the racial violence of white people any more. Yes ALL white people.
‘Because most of ya’ll don’t even realise or refuse to acknowledge that your existence, privilege and success as a race is built on the backs, blood and death of people of colour. Your entire existence is drenched in racism. From micro-aggressions to terrorism, you guys built the blueprint for this s***.
‘Come see me when you realise that racism isn’t learned, it’s inherited and consciously or unconsciously passed down through privilege.
‘Once white people begin to admit that their race is the most violent and oppressive force of nature on Earth… then we can talk.
‘Until then stay acting shocked about how the world continues to stay f***** at the hands of your ancestors and your heads that remain buried in the sand with hands over your ears.’
Last night, The Daily Mail (a tabloid rag if there ever was one) printed parts of her post, highlighting the line “ALL white people.”
This morning, L’Oreal Paris ended their partnership with her, saying her comments were “at odds” with their values.
A Black woman was fired for speaking out about racism. They pulled a “Black people who talk about racism are the REAL RACISTS.”
Munroe has not been shy about responding. In an except from a Facebook post she made a few hours ago, she says:
When I stated that “all white people are racist”, I was addressing that fact that western society as a whole, is a SYSTEM rooted in white supremacy - designed to benefit, prioritise and protect white people before anyone of any other race. Unknowingly, white people are SOCIALISED to be racist from birth onwards. It is not something genetic. No one is born racist.
We also live in a society where men are SOCIALISED to be sexist. Women are SOCIALISED to be submissive. Gay people are SOCIALISED to be ashamed of their sexuality due to heterosexual people’s homophobia. Cisgender people are SOCIALISED to be transphobic. We do not need to be this way. We are not born this way and we can learn to reject it. We are just socially conditioned to think this way from an early age. With the right education, empathy and open mindedness we can unlearn these socialisations and live a life where we don’t oppress others and see things from other people’s points of view.
So when a transgender woman of colour, who has been selected to front up a big brand campaign to combat discrimination and lack of diversity in the beauty industry, speaks on her actual lived experience of being discriminated against because of her race and identifies the root of where that discrimination lies - white supremacy and systemic racism - that big brand cannot simply state that her thoughts are not “in line with the ethics of the brand”.
Now, I know as well as anyone that L’Oreal’s stance is the popular one. Which is exactly the problem.
White people and others who benefit from white supremacy don’t listen if they can make an exception of themselves. That’s why “Yes ALL white people.” Because if you’re first thought when someone speaks out about systemic racism is “it doesn’t apply to me,” you are part of the problem.
If L’Oreal sees condemning white supremacy as at odds with their values, they’re not a company I can support, I don’t care how many makeup shades they have.

Grass in the park at the center of San Francisco gentrification debate is now for rent #1yrago
Dolores Park is a symbol of the clash between of the Mission District’s low-income, non-white traditional residents and the flood of gentrifying tech world.
As rents in the neighborhood have climbed to unthinkable heights and landlords have engaged in sleazy mass-eviction/ethnic cleansing programs, Dolores Park has been a site for an ongoing culture war. It’s not just the private security guards who protect the commuter buses that stop at the park, either: it’s things like an online-only reservation system for the soccer field that saw neighborhood kids pushed out by techies – kids who don’t have the money or the technology to book the fields where they’ve played all their lives. >
Now you can book sections of grass in Dolores Park – again, for cash; and again, only if you’ve got Internet access. If you want your own piece of grass for the day, you’ll need to pay a $200 security deposit and as much as $260 for the turf itself.
Countdown until someone “disrupts” Dolores Park by buying up all the grass and then auctioning it off so that the market can make the system “efficient.”

So therefore I dedicate myself to myself, to my art, my sleep, my dreams, my labors, my sufferances, my loneliness, my unique madness, my endless absorption and hunger - because I cannot dedicate myself to any fellow being.
Jack Kerouac (via wordsnquotes)
You deserve people in your life who understand you at your core. Who don’t have misconceptions about your personality or your intentions. People who not only “get you” but also care about your wellbeing and won’t betray your trust.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL FOR ANYONE WHO USES “BLUEBUFFALO” FOR THEIR DOGS!!
@k9kesi
And cats. Blue Buffalo killed @sidneystrange ‘s cat.
THIS THIS THIS!!
I’ve been telling everyone I know for YEARS not to buy Blue Buffalo.
This is the short story:
A few years ago I took my sick cat, Ankh, to the vet. The vet and vet tech asked what I fed her. I told them Blue Buffalo. They looked like I had just told them I fed her razor blades and cyanide. They diagnosed her with pancreatitis and said that nearly all of the cats they’d been seeing lately with pancreatitis were being fed Blue Buffalo. They gave her medicine and sent her home. Two days later she had a seizure and died right in my arms.
The day after she died Hannibal started displaying the same symptoms she had so I panicked hard and took him to the vet. Got the same meds and the same diagnosis. Luckily Hannibal survived.
I wish Ankh had survived. She was only ten and the best cat I’ve ever had. Literally the best and five years later I still cry when I think about her.
FUCK BLUE BUFFALO.
I don’t know the full story behind the tweets above, but a Google search shows there HAVE been several recalls regarding this brand, especially in 2016. I would absolutely avoid as it is not worth the risk.
@ladycyon
Good god thank you so much for sharing this because I’ve lately been considering switching to this brand cus it’s supposed to be so much better than all the others but good god what the hell.
