At all the people in the notes saying: “Unless it’s this” and “Certain types of shippers need to die” this is fucking targeted at you.
To be fair, Catholics vs Protestants historically was a fandom faction war.
As a internet fandom person for the past 18 years I have a bit of advice:
Avoid fandom social media groups (discord servers, Facebook Groups, ect). Large groups of unchecked passionate people, you’re playing with fire.
No one needs to know how much you HATE anything. You publicly throw out everything you hate about your NOTP you are going to get hate from the fans of that ship who feel like you just shit all over the thing they love. Focus on what you love, friend, focus on the love.
There are going to be popular people in every fandom and they probably won’t be you. Leave your jealousy at the door. You’re supposed to be here to enjoy this show/book/movie/ect with other fans, not complain that so and so in the fandom are only popular because of this and that.
The “Community” is not a thing. You are not a part of some big club where everyone knows each other and works together to spread the love of your fandom. Community is a word thrown around to make y’all sound like a unit but you’re not. There are thousands of people in your “community” that you don’t know and will never know or speak to. There are thousands of people in your “community” that feel alone and forgotten because they don’t feel like part of “The community”. It’s NOT a thing, it will never be a thing. Find a handful of people in the fandom that you get along with and enjoy your time with those people, thats the most “community” you’re going to get.
Every fandom has Extremists. Block them. Ignore them. Avoid them.
Once again, focus on the love. You’re into the fandom because you enjoy this thing you’re all into. You’re there because you love this ship or found that bit hilarious or that one is your favorite character. Everyone has their own opinions. Some people wont like the character you like. Some people will ship a ship you don’t agree with. And that’s OKAY. Focus on what you LOVE, not what you hate. Share what you LOVE. Thats the whole point.
