I had a dream I was playing a TTRPG with a group of friends of a person i sort of knew, who all knew each other but who I didn’t know, and there was a complex mechanic for tracking your character’s emotional state which I will draw for you because it was insane. I don’t know what the game was about. They kept saying “it’s not hard, you’ll pick it up so quick.”
I have no idea how it worked, only how it looked
The other players insisted it would make sense in a few rounds
I don’t know what oonduh and eönduh meant. I think eo means horse in a tolkien language but this game was more sf-alien-politicking-themed than fantasy-themed
This was a card game with events and points
I don’t recall what character trait/ emotion i had chosen for my upper righthand quadrant. You could choose what to put in each quadrant
I wound up with two pegs in the Succumb zone for anger and asked “is that bad?” And the GM said “not necessarily” and that i could “flip it for a character choice” since she (my character) was 15
“Flipping succumb pegs” visually meant exchanging two red pegs for a slightly larger red lentil-shaped disc, and in gameplay meant… i have no idea what it meant.
I was having a wretched and confusing time at the table
What the fuck?
Makes no sense, girl. This was a stress dream.
Makes perfect sense. You must git gud, or at least act with more oonduh.
Gonna tell my grandnieces and grandnephews this was Barbenheimer
Making a shitty one-page RPG called Oh Shit It’s the Killer. The premise is simple: you’re a high schooler spending the weekend in the woods with your besties. The Killer is there also. He is trying to the Kill you
I say shitty not to demean the quality of my work but because it’s less an exercise in good game design and more an attempt to induce paranoid internal conflict that turns into murder (in game of course). It has like three mechanics and one of them actively encourages you to murder the other PCs
Great news!
It’s done
I put like three braincells into this, so if there’s anything about it that outright sucks, uh. Sorry not sorry, L + ratio + let’s use the 1-page restriction as an excuse for any unfun mechanics
“What if there was a game about being a genre-savvy slasher protagonist murdering their way to the role of Final Girl?”
“Sounds cool when exactly does the PvP start”
“character creation”

i know jon doesn’t get the whole “understand all languages” power until after The Thing but can you imagine
I’m building a dnd class rn called “Just Some Guy” and the whole thing is that they are just supremely bad at combat and ability checks the whole time. at level 20 u get an ability called “Fucking Finally” where u get the level 1 abilities of another class. ur hit dice are d4s and the only thing u have proficiency in is improvised weapons. this is the funniest thing I’ve done in a hot minute
update on the Just Some Guy class
yeah so i dont have an explanation for this one just take it
okay this might only be like, lovecore adjacent but you remember the strawberry dress and then the matching strawberry shirt that got made later?? consider: Barry and Lup 💕
ID: Digital Art Of Barry and Lup, a human man and elven woman respectively. Barry has dark brown, greying hair, pale skin, and a chubby build. He is wearing squairsh glasses, a bring pink collared shirt with a red stawberry print, bluejeans, and brown dress shoes. Lup has blonde, curly hair, tan, freckled skin, and a slight build. She is wearing a pink, strawberry printed dress and matching hairbow, and pink strappy shoes. They appear to be dancing together and having a nice time. End ID
This rigns true as lovecore in my book

[ Perhaps the itch has always been the real me, and it was the happy, smiling Jane who called herself a witch and drank wine in the park when it was sunny. Maybe it was her who was the maddened illusion that hides the sick squirming reality of what I am. ]
(.....guys she drank WINE in the PARK when it was SUNNY......)
i feel bad for all the people going into tma with spoilers. getting 100% blindsided by elias bashing old man creepypasta’s head in with a pipe is essential to the listening experience

GMless TTRPGs
So, some of you might have noticed I’ve been dipping my toe into 2-player indie TTRPGs lately and having an absolute blast. I can highly recommend the experience, and also in general the experience of playing GM-less games if you want to play roleplaying games with someone but don’t want to do any prep.
Now, if you’re wondering where to get these kinds of games, there are many available on itch.io. However, I actually decided to write this post as a general PSA that there’s a LOT of these games that were a part of the Itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality that was sold last year. I know many people bought that bundle, and that probably, like me, you all feel a little overwhelmed by the number of games and resources that were in that bundle. Maybe you weren’t even aware that there were TTRPGs in that bundle.
So, to help you out: Someone on Reddit made a google sheet overview of all the TTRPG games that were a part of that bundle. It contains info like a short summary of the game, number of players, link to the store page, etc. I’ve been making my way down the list and picking out the ones that caught my interest, but I’m sure there’s many of you out there that would love the chance to explore these kind of little games as well!
My personal favourites so far (although I haven’t played all of them yet!):
- Apotheosis - 2-5 players
A game about the relationship between what a culture experiences and how that influences their dominant cultural legend and the stories they tell each other across generations. GMless collaborative storytelling, no characters, worldbuilding.
- Dead Friend - 2 players
A game where you play as two friends, one recently deceased and a ghost, the other the necromancer trying to bring them back. During the necromantic ritual you reflect on the shared history that brought you to this moment. GMless collaborative storytelling, character roleplaying, one shot.
- Dream Aflame - 3 players
You play as desperate survivors in a desolate magical land, but also as the land itself and its inhabitants. Gmless collaborative storytelling (but players can take on ‘elements’ of the world), roleplaying characters, world exploration, journey, map drawing, multiple sessions (3-6).
- I’m sorry did you say street magic - 2-6 players
A game where you build a city together, filling it with all the little details that make it feel alive. Gmless, no characters, worldbuilding.
- Navigator - 2 players
You play as The Client who is trying to find the Room which is rumoured to grant your wish, or The Navigator who is guiding them through the mysterious restricted area called the Zone. Gmless collaborative storytelling, character roleplaying, world exploration, journey, map drawing, one shot.
- Over the Moon - 2 players
A dating game for two moon cultists, one of whom loves the moon a little too much, and the other trying to fix their comrade by online dating with ‘normal’ people – but oops, you matched each other instead! Gmless character roleplaying, instant messaging, played over the course of full lunar cycle.
- Ships that Pass - 2 players
You play as two queer spaceships that have a crush on each other (and sometimes you also play the pilots of the ship and agents of the MAN). GMless character roleplaying, one shot.
- The Land Whispers - 1-4 players
Build a peaceful homestead for yourself and your loved ones out in the wilds, as you uncover the secrets of the land and the people who came before you. Gmless collaborative storytelling, world exploration, character roleplaying, one shot (but might require multiple sessions).
- Together / Alone - 2 players
You play as the Envoy, who has arrived in a foreign land seeking an alliance, or the Local who is leading them to the capital. As you travel, you try to form a cross-cultural connection. GMless collaborative storytelling, character roleplaying, journey, one shot.
- Wanderlust - 2-4 players
A game where you all play the same character, The Wanderer, who is about to set off on a journey. But the game is about the last few days before you leave, as you say goodbye to the people you love. GMless collaborative storytelling, character roleplaying (shared character), one shot.
