It's not who you think you are that holds you back from brilliant success, it's who you think you are not that holds you back.

I found love where it wasn't supposed to be Right in front of me Talk some sense to me
"Older" by Birdy
I wish that I was older, Old enough to be yours, mhmm And I wish that I was wiser, Wise enough to be strong-minded, To keep up with the words you say That make me feel so young But I don’t know where this is going, I’ve just been hoping And I can see by your smile That you’re glowing inside and out Let’s not pretend like it’s not what it is, When I’m just starting to realize That I love you, ooh And I wish that we were strangers, Strange enough to go unnoticed from this crowd And I wish that we were closer, Close enough for me to hold you When your lonely nights become too long to bear But I don’t know where this is going, I’ve just been hoping And I can see by your smile That you’re glowing inside and out Let’s not pretend like it’s not what it is, When I’m just starting to realize That I love you, ooh You hold your head up high, Though it’s hard to, ooh I can’t keep back, I know I just want you, ooh But I don’t know where this is going, I’ve just been hoping And I can see by your smile That you’re glowing inside and out Let’s not pretend like it’s not what it is, When I’m just starting to realize That I love you, ooh I love you…
Psalm 91
Whoever lives where God is and makes their home where God is - he will rest in God’s shadow. God is my refuge and my place of safety. He is my God and I trust in Him. He will always save me from the traps and pitfalls of life, and from evil and every deadly disease. And He will cover me with his feathers - His loving arms. He will hold me close and protect me always. That is where I will find my rescue and my safety. He will never give up on me, and that will be what guards me.Â
I won’t be afraid of darkness and evil, or anything that tries to hurt me. I won’t be afraid of the night and of worry, uncertainty, and insecurity. I will never be scared of sickness and disease that is hurting so many people around me everyday. People everywhere are suffering, lost, dying, hurting, and alone. Everyday people are giving up on life and are being destroyed by the evil in this world. But not me. None of it will come close to me. I will look around and see all of this pain, and the pain caused by the cruel hearts of people, and I will see them fall because of it.Â
But if I make God my home - if I make Him my escape - then none of this harm will come to me. And no disaster will ever come to my house. God has commanded His angels to watch me and guard me in everything I do. They will protect me so that I won’t get hurt and fall. I will make it through every trial and every trouble in life and come out stronger than before. I will always overcome - my fears, my insecurities, my pain - I will always be able to defeat it.Â
Because I love God, He will rescue me. He will protect me if I stay close to Him. Whenever I call on Him and cry out to Him for help, He is always there and He will always answer. He will be with me through all of my troubles. He will save me and give me honor and joy. He will give me a long life - complete and full of happiness. He will give me everything I need and even the things my heart wants. He will make me feel whole. But most importantly, He will show me love - His love. And remind me everyday that He has saved me. That He has forgiven me. That He has redeemed me. And that He will never let me go.Â
Lost in Jesus (The Hidden Hearts -1 Youth Summer Camp 2015)
I remember one moment, on stage. So lost in worship as we played my favorite song ever (The Stand by Hillsong), singing, my eyes closed, fully in God's presence. Worshipping.Â
Really, God was there. I could feel Him.Â
There was no doubt about it. This powerful, overwhelming, loving presence was RIGHT THERE. Up on stage with us. In the crowd. He was amongst us. The music - our instruments - flowed so beautiful. Every sound so sharp. So clear. So full. I almost forgot that my fingers were playing the keys of the keyboard. I was so lost in Jesus.Â
Finally, I opened my eyes and what I saw took my breath away.Â
Every single person in the audience - every single kid and leader - almost everyone at that camp - had their hands raised, worshipping, crying, singing so loudly I could barely hear my own voice in the monitors. People were crying. KIDS were crying. KIDS were raising their hands in complete surrender to Jesus.
I was in awe. God’s presence was so powerful, unlike any other time I’ve felt before. And I wasn’t the only one who felt it. Everyone felt it. I knew every single person felt it. It was real. God is real.Â
Wow. Still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
4 days.
300 kids.
97 kids made a decision to follow Christ.
66 baptisms.
One of the greatest experiences of my life.
You are beautiful. Remind yourself every day. And don’t let anything or anyone stop you from loving who you are.
If traveling was free, you'd never see me again.
Sometimes I wish I could just disappear. Don't we all? Wouldn't it be amazing to just forget about everything for a little while and go on an adventure far away?Â
It's so hard to see people you love suffer so much. It hurts to know that they are in pain. And it hurts even more to know that sometimes, there's nothing you can do to help them. I'm not in control of everything.Â
That's when I think about getting away - flying away from the pains of living. But I can't. And I won't. I can't run away from my problems. I have to stand here and face them. That's what makes me who I am. This makes me stronger. This changes me, and for the better. This brings me closer to God and forces me to admit that I'm not in control, and that He is.Â
John Green said, "It hurt because it mattered."Â
Although the presence of pain is sad and overwhelming at times...even unbearable, it reminds me day after day that everything I've gone through has mattered. Maybe I can't see it now, but one day I'll look back and see how.Â
We are soft
It happened during my writing class at college. The teacher was talking about paper outlines, grammar, and other little tips to help us out in our writing. But the conversation suddenly took a change in direction.Â
"Imagine this," he said. "Pretend that you walking down the street on an ordinary day, and all of sudden a white van pulls up beside you and 5 guys jump out, throwing you into the back of the van..."
He went on to describe how these 5 men would beat you, kick you, punch you, and tie you up. They would drive out into the middle of nowhere, hang you upside down from a tree, douse you with gasoline, and burn you alive. And for no reason. No reason at all. And all the while you'd be screaming and crying for help, and nobody would hear you.
The whole class, including myself, was pretty much in shock as we thought about this gruesome scenario. Then our teacher asked this question:
"Who here thinks this is okay?"
None of us really knew what he was asking. He explained further:
"Does anyone think this action is morally wrong? If this happened to you here, today, would you think it was wrong? But wait, what if this happened to someone in a different country? What if this happened in a different culture? What would you think then? Do we have a right to question people's actions? Who thinks this is wrong regardless of who you are and where you live? Please raise your hand."
I paused, looking around. No one was raising their hand. Did anyone think it was wrong? I was so confused. Why weren't people raising their hands? A few people, including myself, soon raised their hands. But I was shocked with the amount of people who weren't raising their hands, and those people who hesitated far longer than I could've imagined. One boy even went on to say to the teacher that we can't judge other cultures if we don't understand them - that it really depended on the culture and the place it was happening. I was shocked.
The reason I'm writing about this is because I believe that we as people have become soft. We tell ourselves and others that we have no right to question the morality and actions of people. Who are we to judge people? "If you're cool, then I'm cool. You do your own thing, I'll do mine. Everyone has their own standards of morality." But that's WRONG. There are ethics in this world - a moral standard that God has given us. If it is wrong here, it is wrong EVERYWHERE. It doesn't matter what culture, what race, what type of person you are. We should all be accountable under God's standards. And we shouldn't hesitate to stand up for what we believe in - to stand up for what we know is right. This world is a tough place, and it's getting harder and harder to have faith. But we can't be soft. We need to be strong and stand up for our faith and for the morals and values that make us God's people.Â
