A REDESIGNED AROMANTIC-ASEXUAL FLAG

Recently, I redesigned the aroace flag. There is currently a blue and gold flag, and there is nothing wrong with that flag, but for me, the flag doesn't feel really feel connected with asexuality or aromanticism. So here's the new flag!

I really like this flag because it allows for people, myself included, who feel that their asexuality and aromanticism aren't exactly intertwined- that they are two separate entities. Both asexuality and aromanticism are represented on this flag, but there is also a white stripe, showing distinction between the two identities.

I've assigned meaning to the stripes of the flag. Three of the stripes represent diversity, individuality, and unity. Every aroace person has their own individuality, with different experiences and perspectives. Diversity in the community allows for these unique experiences to be told and shared, in one single, united community.

This new flag is really important to me. By designing a new flag, I feel more connected to my identity, and the aroace community as a whole. I would really like for you spread this flag around if you like it!

I hope everything is having a wonderful Pride Month! I’d like to especially recognize all asexual and aromantic people this Pride. I hope all aces are aros know that they are loved, valued, and deserve a voice in the queer community. Whether you’re out or not, whether you’re confident in yourself or you’re still exploring your identity, know that you deserve joy, happiness, and the freedom to be yourself. Happy Pride!

Being ace can be pretty isolating at various times, for varying reasons that I don't feel like I have to explain because if you are ace, you probably get it.

as pride gets closer i am honestly begging you guys to remember lesbians. please. im so tired of being forgotten about or put to the side. im so tired of seeing our flag excluded because its “the same as gay”. its not. dont tag your pride things as lgbt if you include every letter but the first. my identity is not an afterthought. my inclusion is not a political statement, nor is it optional. please, remember us. were here too.

A 24-year-old aroace to all the high schoolers worrying about their future:

You’re going to meet more ace / aro / aroace people than you think once you make it clear you’re safe to talk to about that stuff.

Friends do not abandon you once they find partners. If they do, they’re not your friend. But I promise becoming blind to everyone except your partner is a very high school thing and doesn’t happen as much once your friends mature.

Make a list of funny ways to say you’re immune to attraction because explaining it in a serious way becomes really boring.

Friend dates! Start doing friend dates. Especially if you see something “romantic” you want to do. It’s fun to bring friends you don’t have to miss out.

You will find people that are all kind of acearo - that doesnt mean you cant still have community, celebrate the differences

Those who you can trust will understand your boundaries and will respect them and ask about them, respect them in return by being truthful (esp with topics that come up more as you're older)

if you find yourself feeling more comfortable around certain topics you weren't before, thats ok, you're still ace/aro

on the other hand you never have to feel like you need to "grow up" if certain topics still make you uncomfy, thats ok too
