that is exactly my point of view. if all people were given universal basic income, we could have tens of thousands of boring, tedious, dangerous, and long term harmful jobs done by robots, while humans are free to explore their passions without fear of poverty and homelessness.

Tumblr deleted my long ass rant while I was in the middle of writing it so you're spared and will only get a summed up version

Long story short; your abs are supposed to be covered with a healthy, protective layer of fat. The shape Jason Momoa is in during his movies is achieved by a diet designed to lower his body fat to unhealthy numbers, dehydrating him and enhancing his abs with make up. This is what ripped, muscular, healthy person looks like on their off time. If you think this is a dad bod, for the love of everything that is holy, shut up and absolutely never comment on a man's body ever again. I mean hell, you can still see his damn v-line, what fucking dad bod has that?!

Don't believe me? Google some bodybuilders who are off their contest diet. The men who literally make a living for having defined muscles. For 360 days a year, they do not look like the way you think they do. During a bodybuilding contest, these men's body fat is under 7%, they're dehydeated and covered in fake tan that helps the muscles show up. And it's literally only for that day, because it's extremely unhealthy. Same goes for actors who are known for being ripped - they're at their worst when they're filming. This exact same shit happened with Vin Diesel few years ago with people getting a paparazzi shot of his "beer belly" and I'm genuinely worried of the young men who grow up in this society thinking being muscular means having defined abs 24/7.

Jason Momoa looks ripped and healthy, yall are just blind with unrealistic standards.

Actual things that may have made tumblr money and bigger in the long run:

-allowing big blogs to monetise a la YouTube, which incentivises them using your platform as well as entices new people to use your platform.

-this would attract real advertisers and real user-brand partnerships to come to the site and thus making more advertising money

-better policing and getting rid of the nazis and cp

-a site hosted and funded annual con(s)(no not dash con, but like a real con paid for by this site not some diy event in bumblefuck usa) that fosters the community and unity of the fandoms that thrived so heavily on here for so long

-site funded contests like art contests or music contests which again, incentivises people to use the site

Because let’s be real, we all joke about tumblr being worthless(which on a philosophical level, it is) but tumblr has actually, dare I say it, been one of the biggest influences on modern internet culture. Where would a website like buzzfeed be without tumblr culture? Where would countless popular facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts be without stolen tumblr content? Who the fuck would still be watching supernatural????

I always say this as someone who’s been using this site since 2012, tumblr has always had intrinsic value, but the poor management of the site, poor user experience really did a number on it lmao, I mean fuck tumblr but also, don’t sleep on tumblr

This post points out something that I’ve been thinking about for a while but has always been sitting in the back of my mind...that tumblr is the genesis of SO much content on the internet??

Every single other social media is FULL of screenshots from tumblr. Tumblr posts are a staple of online humor and meme culture. Other social medias have hundreds of accounts devoted just to screenshots of tumblr posts. The only other website that has this distinction that I can think of is...Twitter, which arguably borrowed its current humor/meme culture from tumblr? ???

On Pinterest, you can find entire boards that are pretty much just tumblr posts. Boards that aren’t even devoted specifically to tumblr posts. It’s just that...there’s no other place that HAS the volume and quality of things like writing prompts or even just funny shitposts.

Tumblr generates content (as opposed to just spreading it around) on a level that no other social media does and it’s depressing to hear THIS WEBSITE IS TRASH LOL because have you seen the alternatives??? there’s no way in hell i’m moving to twitter or instagram.

In a way tumblr almost feels like a last vestige of the old internet, where you could just make a username and plunge unseen and anonymous into derelict old forums without the consciousness of a thousand eyes on you, and I feel like if it dies so does any online refuge that isn’t painfully, horribly public.

The internet used to have places people could connect based on common interests that were just that; now more and more you have to act like and BE a celebrity running your own PR campaign and plaster your name, face and intimate personal details all over everything while getting violated in increasingly more intense ways by corporations.

Tumblr feels more like a forum in the early 2000’s than it feels like Instagram. And I don’t want that to disappear.
