X-Men: The Time Traveler's Wife AU, where reader, a mutant uncontrollably drifting through time, forms an attachment to the long lived and possibly immortal Wolverine.
Proposal: The Kaminoans found Jango Fett to be a prime subject for cloning not only for his mental and physical prowess and training, but also because he was asexual and they wanted their army to not form relationships with civilians. They did not count on the fact that sexuality, much like M-count, cannot be replicated.
Thus leading to the abundance of hidden relationships formed throughout the clone ranks with Jedi, senators, and civies.
I read a lot of scripts. Ā A lot. Ā From professionals to aspiring writers to complete newbies. Ā Features and pilots. Ā Specs and treatments.
And 8 times out of 10 the fan fic that Iāve read over the last, oh, 15 years is leagues better than this stuff. Ā Itās more inspired. Ā Itās more compelling. Ā Itās genre bending and creative and heartfelt. Ā Itās well-paced and intense and funny and sexy and meaningful. Ā Itās smart and thoughtful and good. Ā Itās novel-quality. Ā Better than, sometimes.
Rare is the script I donāt want to put down, but how often have we stayed up until 3am to get to the last chapter of a 100k fic?Ā And itās not even a fan fic authorās day job. Ā This is what they do on the side. Ā In their spare time. Ā For free.
So my point is, fan fic authors, youāre good. Ā Youāre good writers and great storytellers. Ā I know it doesnāt always feel like it, especially if youāre one of the authors whoās not a BNF and doesnāt get the notes/hits that a few do. Ā And Ā because some people still view fic as ānot real writing.ā You guys know the shit that gets made into movies. Ā Youāre better than that. Ā So be better than that. Ā If writing is what you think want to do, then just know youāre already doing it. Ā Youāve already started.
I used to be critical of myself about writing fic. Especially because I was talking about it with another writer when I was in the Navy and he flat out told me that fanfiction isnāt āreal writingā and I tried to buttress it with ābut I also write original fictionā but I had become rotten in his eyes due to my writing fanfiction. Then my fiction professor answered a classmateās question about whether or not fanfic counts for our writing log.
My professor told us this: as long as you are writing, you are writing and youāre a writer.
And later I found a post here on Tumblr. OP was a writer, so was her dad. One day her dad found her writing and asked what she was writing about. Embarrassed, she replied she was writing fanfic. Dad nodded and said: thatās the genre, what are you writing ABOUT?
These two things put fanfics in a whole new light for me.
Fanfiction is a genre! The same way fantasy and horror and literary are genres. But each fanfic is about something. About a kernel of humanityās truth. And you are a writer, regardless of what genre you write in.

Chapter Four: Peace Lily
"This one, GÄgÄ," Damian whispered as he took a book off the shelf. Jason lay back and let Damian sit on his lap as he read the title.
"Can you turn the page for me, Damian?" Jason requested gently. Damian made a soft noise and obeyed. Jason couldn't use his hands when spending time with Damian, but he found ways around it. Damian had a fondness for Jason that not even Talia could explain. They spent most of their days together. The boys sometimes took a nap together in mid-afternoons when Talia was busy.
Halfway through the book, Damian stopped turning the pages at Jason's request. "Damian?" Jason whispered. Damian turned and looked up at him.
"Sleepy?" Damian asked. Jason nodded. "I can tell." Jason chuckled as Damian stood up and helped him to bed. Jason held back his laugh as Damian tucked him in. Talia smiled and crossed her arms as she watched the two boys from the doorway.
"You too, baby bird," Talia whispered. Damian obeyed and lay down in his bed. Talia tucked him in, and he quickly drifted off to sleep. She kissed his forehead and whispered something that neither boy could hear. Jason, however, lay awake, watching her. "Are you too tired to talk for a moment?"
"No, I'm not too tired," Jason whispered. She crouched by his bedside and pushed his bangs out of his face.
"Your bandages are coming off soon... And soon after, your training begins," Talia informed him, "Do you have any idea what that means for you?"
Jason shook his head, and Talia continued to speak. "Jason, I'll oversee your studies. Everything from history to hand-to-hand combat," she explained, "And then my father will take over your training once you're ready to spar with others."
He smiled. "Like homeschool?" Jason asked.
"It would be more intensive than homeschooling, but it would be something like that. I'm telling you now because there might be things that happen during your training that might not make sense... It might even frighten you at times-."
"But you'll be there, won't you?" Jason interrupted as he sat up.
The innocence written all over Jason's face moved her to tears. She had to fulfill her father's wishes. Talia promised to train Jason and examine the extent of his immortality before she'd even met him. She had no idea how sweet and gentle Jason was, nor how few years he'd been alive. Talia nodded as she turned her face away from Jason. "I'll do my best," Jason whispered to get her to smile. "Talia."
She embraced him and smoothed his hair down. "And I will do mine," Talia whispered. She squeezed his shoulder as she let go. "Get some rest." Jason nodded and lay down. She pulled the blankets over him and kissed his temple as she always did with Damian.
She left them alone to meet with Ra's and plead with him for Jason's soul. It was a fight she didn't see herself winning, but she had to try. "Baba, about Jason... I don't think he's suited-."
"I'm in no mood to hear your reservations on this matter... I allowed you to doctor him in a traditional sense as you asked, but I will not permit you to waste any more of my time. He will start training as soon as his hands have healed," Ra's snapped. Talia took a deep breath.
"You've already killed him once. Isn't his blood enough? Could we compare-."
"Should I exsanguinate the boy and bathe in his blood? Or should you have me drink his blood like some crazed beast?" Ra's asked sarcastically. Talia hung her head and looked out the window. "What changed?"
"He's only a child. A fragile child. Jason could be easily broken under the pressure of what you require," Talia whispered, "I don't think he understands his own gift."
"He will understand soon enough," Ra's replied, "But I'll take his state of mind into consideration..." Talia nodded and excused herself.
"I heard your footsteps, little one," Talia whispered. Jason came out from the shadows. She turned to face him, and he walked toward her with his head hung low.
"I didn't mean-. Well, I did mean to snoop... I'm sorry," Jason whispered. Talia opened her arms and embraced him.
"It's alright... Jason did you hear anything that you-. Do you have questions about anything you heard in there?" Talia asked. Jason nodded. "You can ask me."
Jason kicked at the air and mouthed what he had to say breathlessly before speaking aloud. "What did you mean by my gift?" Jason asked. "Do I have powers? Was that what you meant?"
Talia nodded. "Jason, would you like to sit with me in the garden?" she questioned. Jason nodded, and she led him by his arm to a small garden and helped him into his shoes. "Can you explain what happened to you in the past month?"
Jason smiled up at the warm sun. He hadn't been outdoors in weeks. Jason remembered what she asked after coming to his senses. Jason explained that he got sick from the cold twice and that the hospitals made a mistake.
"That's not at all what happened. Jason, you've died twice since December," Talia whispered, "But for one reason or another-."
Jason let out a laugh. "No," he shook his head. "I-. No." He tried to take a breath but couldn't get enough air. "That's not true..."
"Jason, you died-."
"Am I dead now?" Jason questioned. Talia shook her head. "Where am I? Am I being punished?"
"No, you're not dead, and you're not being punished... This island is your new home. It's where you'll grow up. I'll get you a roomĀ andĀ playroom if that's what you like. Do boys your age play with toys?" Talia asked as she attempted to calm him down. Jason let out a breath and smiled. The smile was for Talia. Jason liked Talia, trusted her, and Jason wanted her to like him.
"I prefer books," Jason chuckled. Talia nodded and wiped tears from Jason's cheeks.
"A library then, little one," Talia whispered. She wrapped her arms around him, and he closed his eyes. Talia frowned and held onto Jason. All she wanted to do was protect him, but that wasn't in her power. Not anymore. Jason was no longer hers to care for and love. Jason belonged to Ra's now.
Dick, Richard, was raised in a circus. The son of Mary and John Grayson, the trio was known as the Flying Graysons in their heyday, but like all good things the circus days had to come to an end. When Dick was nine the Graysons' act was sabotaged by the villain Tony Zucco, who cut Mary and John's lines while they were preforming their famous trapeze act. Dick watched as his parents fell to their deaths.
Lucky for him Bruce and his eldest son, Damian, were both in the stands to witness to atrocity. And to help him through the aftermath.
ā¢ First Outing:
Many will assume that Dick is the golden child, but that title was given later in life. When he was first adopted by Bruce Wayne, Dick was a feral child. Hell bent on killing the man who took his parents. Bruce couldn't stop him as he snuck out of the house with one of his brothers' knives, but he did manage to convince him to bring Zucco to justice properly instead of executing him.
Dick would have a second "first outing" after taking up a superhero mantle, with Damian under the Batman cowl. While their time together as partners would be short, Dick would prefer working with his eldest brother more than with Bruce.
ā¢ The Name:
While Batman and Shadow both tried to convince young Dick to take on the name of Aves and carry on the legacy, Dick retired that mantle permanently. Instead taking up the name that would define him for his entire life, based on the nickname his mother gave to him: Robin.
ā¢ Home Life:
Dick has the best home life, by far. He is quickly named the baby of the family.
Bruce, Damian, and Tim are all overly protective of the little Boy Wonder. Who lives up to his name, always asking questions and always filled with life. He is immediately accepted as their littlest brother, and they all swear never to have a repeat of Jason.
ā¢ Independence:
Dick remains Batman's sidekick for far longer than any of the others, staying by his side for ten years, until he's nineteen. He fights along side both the Teen Titans and Young Justice, as well as a multitude of other superhero teams during that time.
When he outgrows the Robin mantle it is retired. And he once again honors the memory of his parents with his new moniker Nightwing.
Following Canon, Jason was a street rat. During patrol, Batman just so happened to park his car next to Jason's territory in Crime Alley. Twelve year old Jay took the opportunity to steal from the Bat, he was caught and sent to a children's home. When he infiltrated a crime ring after being expressly forbidden from doing so, Batman recognized the pattern and took him under his wing to replace Timothy who hadn't been out of the game for even a year yet.
ā¢ First Outing:
Jason warned Batman of a group of drug lords who will be meeting up, but didn't believe that Batman believed him because of his dismissive nature. Jason decided to go after the bad guys himself, but to his surprise Batman appeared and helped him.
ā¢ The Name:
Jason was given Tim's old moniker of Aves, creating a mini legacy. Though the twelve year old was estastatic about becoming Aves, the fifteen year old Timothy felt like he was sidelined.
ā¢ Home Life:
Jason at this point was considered Bruce's favorite child. He was the first kid that Bruce chose to bring into the life, and the only one he officially adopted. Even so, Bruce treated Jason in a similar manner to Tim, if slightly more attentive.
Damian (22 years old) as well took more of an interest in this brother, taking personal interest in training him to fight the Joker after what happened to Tim.
Tim and Jason were often mistaken for being much closer than they were, being the closest in age with only a three year age gap, in truth Jason seeks for Tim's approval and Tim is bitter about being replaced.
Alfred as always treats them the same.
ā¢ The Incident
The Joker. A crowbar. You know the story. Fifteen year old Jason Todd is murdered and mourned.
Except this time he doesn't go unavenged.
ā¢ Independence:
Upon his resurrection by Lazarus Pit, Jason Todd, formerly Aves, is trained by the League of Assassins to take revenge by killing the Joker. They are unaware that the Joker who is currently wreaking havoc is a clone. The original was dispatched by Damian.
Timothy Drake was left alone for most of his childhood, locked away in his parents' manor he learned how to pick locks and hack security systems to sneak out. He grew up with tales of Batman and his shadow, and when he was nine he began to research who they might be. Honestly it wasn't too hard to connect Batman and the Shadow to Bruce and Damian Wayne. What was hard though, was talking himself out of trouble when they caught him sneaking into the Cave.
When Damian cut ties with Bruce, eleven year old Tim stepped up. Tim fulfilling his life long dream of becoming a hero, and Bruce being given a second chance at being a father with a boy who chose him.
ā¢ First Outing:
While you could consider young Timothy breaking into the Cave as his first outing, the first time he appeared as his superhero alter was months after being taken in by Bruce. Batman was adamant that Tim did not have enough training in comparison to his first sidekick (and the other bats) to appear in the field. But when Batman was captured by Scarecrow, and Tim fought through his own fear to save him, Bruce decided it was time.
ā¢ The Name:
Tim spent his early days meticulously crafting his superhero name.
Nuthatch? No, that would be shortened to Nut.
Batboy? Juvenile.
Boybat? Worse.
Myotis? Sounds too much like mitosis.
Red Bat? Filing away for later.
Aves? Yeah Aves, short and snappy.
Tim often credits himself with the addition of red to the family color chart.
ā¢ Home Life:
Tim's home life was much less rocky than Damian's, Bruce put in more of an effort to help the boy who chose him. Actually taking an interest in his education for example, and pushing him to take an interest in Wayne Enterprises.
Damian and Tim don't have a personal relationship at all until they establish a working relationship. Their interactions outside of work are akin to that cousin you only see at family gatherings who you don't dislike but you never speak to.
ā¢ Independence:
When Tim was 15 he was benched. The moniker of Aves ripped away from him, due to his time as Joker Jr. His injuries sustained then, both physical and mental, made him unfit for duty.
After an event referred to as the "Incident," Tim returned to the life of vigilantism to support Batman as Red Bat, and briefly as Drake.
The eldest of the bat boys, Damian is the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Ghul. The product of a one night fling when Bruce was 27 and newly cristened as Batman, he is the only "blood" son. The boy was raised and trained by the League of Assassins for the first 9 years of his life before being given to his father.
ā¢ First Outing:
Trained to always finish the job, Damian found his father's methods lacking when it came to his vigilante work. And so with his mind set on rectifying this fault, Damian donned his old robes that he wore when working as an assassin and followed his father out one night. Batman was up against a C-lister thug and when he beat him and left him there for the cops to find in the morning, Damian swooped in to finish the job.
ā¢ The Name:
After that fateful night, Bruce realized that he couldn't leave Damian to his own devices and decided to train him to be a hero. Henceforth Damian was known as "Shadow." The superhero name bestowed upon him by Commissioner Gordon, seeing as he was always in Batman's shadow.
ā¢ Home Life:
Damian has the worst relationship with his father among all of his adopted siblings. They had a strictly professional relationship while on patrol that bled into their home life. Bruce had no idea what a child needs, and beyond that he never wanted Damian. This child was thrown on him and Damian knows he viewed him as an unwanted and untrustworthy pest for the first few years.
Alfred became his caretaker in much the same way he was for Bruce.
ā¢ Independence
Damian left his life as Batman's sidekick at age 18. He kept the name Shadow believing it to still be accurate. Damian, while for the most part maintaining the life of a solo vigilante, has been a part of many super hero teams, and led a few as well.
Shadow is inducted into the Justice League two years after leaving Batman's side. And it is widely acknowledged that he is the only choice for the next Batman.

Tbh some of u take romanticized writing way too literally and it is killing ur media literacy.
"Growled?! Like a dog?!?!" No like a human person making a low rumbling groan.
"Fanfiction writers overexagerate words too much." Do you not understand that fanfiction as a culture is deeply rooted in the romance genre? The entire basis of fanfiction was to romanticize Spirk.
Exagerated language is a huge part of romance as a genre. It's necessary to give the exagerated, romanticized feeling. It effectively serves as rose colored glasses. It helps build and maintain sexual tension. It's an incredibly useful tool in creating a visual image for the reader to follow.
Please stop looking at completely normal terminology and curling your lip in disgust. Just because its not the way you would tell that story doesn't mean the story is told wrong.
