Hello everyone,

We’ve been humbled by the positive response that this project has received from the community. Thank you for sharing our posts, and for being so supportive!

You may have noticed that posts have slowed these past couple of weeks. We’ve discovered the hard way that running this blog takes quite a large toll, both in terms of time and emotional investment. Given where we are currently in our lives, we’re sad to announce that we will not be able to continue running this blog on a weekly basis as we had hoped.

We will still try to bring serious cases to your attention: if there is a reposter who is not responding to your messages, then please let us know, and we will try to help you raise awareness about this account.

Please continue to report accounts to Instagram if they are reposting without proper permission! While this is not a project we can sustain any longer, it is still important work, and I hope that everyone will continue to support each other in this!

tumblr mirrors on ‘photosugar’

So idk if others have noticed this before - but it’s the first time I’m seeing this, hence the post.

There’s a website, https://www.photosugar.com, which apparently mirrors all pictures, gifsets etc. people post on their tumblrs (and also other social media sites like twitter and instagram, if I understand it correctly). An eample for a tumblr user, with my name: https://www.photosugar.com/tu/lordhellebore

Now it won‘t turn up anything but a 404 error in my case, because I sent an e-mail to the contact address, which is [email protected] with the title “My content on your website”:

Hello, it’s come to my attention that you are mirroring all of the posts containing pictures/gifs that I post on my tumblr. I am asking you to stop pulling the content from my tumblr and to delete me from your website. tumblr username is „lordhellebore“ Thank you.

I got a reply consisting of the single word “removed” after just one day, and as you can see, it worked perfectly fine with the informal mail I sent. So if you want them to stop mirroring your tumblr, it seems all you really need to to is this.  

I can’t test the site for all of my mutuals, but I’m tagging a few whom I found on there by random trial & error, and I suggest you look yourself up if you see this post and dislike tumblr mirrors (even if this one is only for pictures, not text).

So I looked into this, and sure enough.  Every graphic I’ve posted or reblogged on Tumblr (on both my blogs) is mirrored on Photosugar.  It seems gross and disingenuous to mirror without consent, not to mention problematic from a copyright perspective.

Hey all - while your writing may not show up on photosugar, any pictures or graphics you post or reblog, will.  And they will show up without the textual context that accompanies them on Tumblr.  In case that matters to you.

Heads up to my followers, as this is *every* blog I’ve checked. It seems like they have bots to pull content from tumblr, twitter, and instagram. Auto-fill their site with content at no work of their own, and no attributions minus the blog title (and who goes out of their way to search attributions on the internet?)

WOAH I and many of my friend’s blogs were mirrored there!!! FRIENDOS PLS REBLOG AND ALSO CHECK AND REMOVE YOUR STUFF FROM BEING MIRRORED ON THIS SITE!!!

Just a heads up, both my Tumblr and my Twitter were being mirrored on this site, which means all the art I reblog was showing up as graphics without references. This ticks me off because I mostly reblog art from artists who are friends or people I admire/respect.

Please check this site for your blog and let’s protect our artists and friends from this kind of BS!

I have a special request! If possible, could the tagged artists please report IG user overwatch.deluxe for stealing/reposting art without permission? This person has upset at least one artist greatly by not responding to a request that their art be taken down. I can see that this user has been asked several times in the comments section by artists to provide credit, and they have still not done so. It would be great if we could get Instagram to take action against this person! Please spread this one widely, thank you! <3

I’ve tried my best to take screenshots that contain art from Tumblr users, but this user has made over 900 posts, and I am also unable to recognize many of the names (plus there sure are a lot of memes!). Please tag any missing artists in the notes or in reblogs, and also please scan their account gallery if you have time to ensure that your work has not been reposted against your wishes.

Two Important Things

We’ve received several asks about whether we will be able to track tracers as well with this blog, and have decided to address it in a post instead of the several separate replies. 

After much thought and discussion, we have decided that while this issue definitely also needs to be addressed, it’s outside of our expertise and our mandate. We’ve been trying our best this week to get the project addressing reposters off the ground (and hope that we’ve been making progress so far!), and do not have enough people right now to divert resources to pursue this very different issue. We would encourage you though to take action if it is something dear to you, as we have done! Consider how you might be able to best bring this to the attention of social media platforms, and to artists and to the general fandom, and how you might be able to affect change! I am sorry that we are unable to help right now, and wish you all the luck!

Secondly, we’ve received a related ask regarding the subject matter of the material that we will screenshot, and asking whether we will refuse to use our resources to help artists who may ship in ways that we do not. While we’re still fairly new at this, and haven’t really established our policy on material that might be considered questionable yet, our most basic rule is we will try not to post onto our website any screenshot or photo that might prevent some fans and artists from using our resource.

You'll notice for instance, that we will not post nsfw art on our own blog so that our blog can be used more widely as a resource even by artists and fans who cannot view this material. We also don't post art that might be questionable in terms of ships or situations for the same reason (so that others who are using our resource who do not want to see those things can feel safe doing so). If an artist does create nsfw/questionable pieces, you will still find them in our posts sometimes if the art that has been reposted from them will not prevent others from using our blog, as we agree that resposting hurts them as well and they should also be alerted! In addition, we provide the name of the Instagram account in our posts. Mod Fire will sometimes go in and tag nsfw artists even though their work is not visible on our site. Please do as you’ve already done, and visit our screenshots, visit the posted Instagram account, and tag artists that we may have missed.

New Note for Artists

Unfortunately, it looks like Instagram only allows artists to report that their own work has been reposted without permission!

We are still happy to do the initial legwork though: we will continue to search for Instagram accounts that repost artwork without giving proper permission, and will message the owners of these accounts, asking for them to stop. If they are unwilling, then we will post screenshots of their galleries, and will tag as many affected artists as we can find.

We will leave it to you then afterwards to report these accounts. If you need any information about reporting these accounts, we’d be happy to help!

Do you guys also handle cases where a popular overwatch artist has traced over another artist's art work?

This sounds like an important issues as well! We're not confident though in our abilities to identify work that has been traced in this way (as it is a bit trickier to do, and we don’t have a lot of experience in doing this), and would not want to bring attention to someone incorrectly. Do you have an example of where this is being done? Please PM us, and we can look into it!

Our main goal is to ensure that artists have control over where their work is posted, and to alert artists whenever possible whenever work is being posted against their wishes! To help us, it would be great if you could go to this spreadsheet to indicate to us how we can best help. 

Artists who do not care for reposts Listing your name under this column means that you do not mind if your work is posted on other platforms uncredited. If you list your name here, we will no longer tag you in our posts (although we might not be able to stop others from tagging you in their comments!)

Artists who only want their art to be reposted with credit Listing your name under this column means we will only tag you if we find your art reposted without credit. 

Artists who want to be asked first  Listing your name under this column means that we will only tag you if the reposter has not indicated that they have approached you about reposting your work. This might be difficult for us to decipher sometimes! 

Artists who do not want their art to be reposted Listing your name under this column means that we will tag you whenever we see your art reposted, regardless of whether proper credit has been given.
