One shots: (so far) ( can ask me to continue them)
Okay this has been rotating around in my head nonstop since I saw this image. Naturally I had no choice but to throw this together:
"Okay, okay -" Tim grabbed his next reference, a grainy shot of a relief carving. It showed a sarcophagus surrounded by hooded figures. Then, as he stuck it to his corkboard, he continued. "So this one might be far-fetched, but we know that this cult worshipped a deity with traits that we expect align with the ghost king-"
Danny propped his head on one hand, elbow planted on the graphing paper that littered his desk. Ancients, but he loved watching his bird get riled up.
And there were few things that got him going as well as a puzzle or a conspiracy. A puzzle that was a conspiracy? His boyfriend was practically vibrating.
Tim kept talking, and Danny was content to listen. When Tim reached, distracted, for the spool of red thread - actual red thread, fuck, what a man - Danny just hummed and passed it into his hands.
See, Danny had found out that Constantine was circling the Realms' gossip of a newly crowned King - Crown Prince, technically, but whatever - and decided to get out ahead of it and make himself known to the JL and prevent misunderstandings. But he was loathe to deal with the wizard, and knew that the Bats enjoyed holding their superior knowledge over other heroes with smug self-satisfaction.
Not to mention that Red Robin needed enrichment from time to time, or he was prone to doing things like destabilizing Russia.
So he may have left some clues for Tim to follow, then sat back to watch the unfolding chaos -
"- so the obvious conclusion is that this Ghost King is evil."
Oh. Fuck. Abort, abort -
"Now I've also found obscure references in Esperanto, of all languages, to something called Blood Blossoms -"
"Babe," he interjected, suppressing the private thrill when Tim raised a brow at him for interrupting. "I think you're jumping to conclusions. Maybe try for a more solid ID before you go for the contingencies?"
I do think that in a universe where Jason doesn't really do the whole red hood thing to get Bruce's attention, it's possible he wouldn't go back to Gotham either.
The Bats' love for Gotham generally reads as either sunk cost or shared trauma between all citizens, the whole "this shithole is my shithole" thing everybody thinks, except it's tenfold. The only thing linking Jason to Gotham physically is Bruce, and to a lesser extent the rest of the bats, so Jason's hopes of a relationship with Bruce also represent the likelihood that he'd stay in Gotham.
I think somebody like Jason, when he finally takes a step back and looks at it objectively, would rather stay out. Not permanently, of course, but occasional visits instead of primary residence. A week every other month or something
It's the same as his Outlaws era, where he went around the world dicking around, except this time he doesn't have Bruce and the others to really tether him there, so it's even less frequent when he visits
Jason's motivation for crime alley is to stop others from going through what he and his family went through, and while stopping crime is a part of that, it's not the only thing that can be done. Think of celebrities that build schools back home but don't still live there. His trauma of his time being homeless would outweigh any nostalgia he felt
It's also like how Dick left Gotham for longer periods of time once his relationship with Bruce got worse.
Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who was murdered on the first day of Pride month as well as Indigenous History Month. He died protecting his trans husband. Homophobia and racism aren’t marks of the past, and this is a heart breaking reminder of that.
Praying for a safe journey back to the spirit world, Uncle ❤️🩹🦅
Today is the anniversary of the death of Jonathan Joss (King of the Hill, Parks and Rec). Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who died protecting his transgender husband, on the first day of Pride month. Today we remember him and how he protected his family.
