Alright gang, I'm trying to make a video about Jorvik rn and I wanted to know if anyone had a high-quality/high-res version of the *book* map of Jorvik.
If you have a copy of the book yourself and can send a pic that's even better.
I have the books and a photo of the map that I used for my oc map.
But it has to wait untill tomorrow for me to share it.
However it doesnt have a key of how big Jorvik is. People just speculate because the book says it takes half day or something to ride from Valedale Village to Golden Hills Valley.
there's no way it's 700km from Jarlaheim to Jorvik City are they crazy?? that's like maximum 20km and even that's a stretch
I calculated the scale some weeks ago based on the width of the moorland arena and a basic riding arena (80/20m) I forgot what it was like but certainly not that much, I'll check after class
for reference this is what 500km look like near Sweden on maps:

It isnt 700km even by the scale they give, its more like 400km. I checked several other countries dimensions in comparison with the dimensions we get on the map and the closest one in size was Belarus. I then used The True Size to drag Belarus up to where it should approximately be on the map and it fits in the ocean just fine with room to spare!
Tbf I dont think any scale will ever feel perfect for Jorvik because the video game scale is too small and the book scale is inconsistent lol. They made this game for the fun, not with some indepth intention of having a realistic size of the map. I'm just an over thinker who enjoys developing famtasy settings. There SHOULD be more houses in Moorland and i think there ARE, but the game just doesnt have to add them because its a video game.
I designed a little bus network for our part of Jorvik for my oc living there so I thought I'd share!
In canon, there are five main bus stops : Dundull, Fort Pinta, Cape West fishing village, Jarlaheim, and New Hillcrest.
To go to Jorvik City, which is located in eastern Jorvik, you need to go through Dundull, so I decided a line goes from Dundull to Jorvik City and smaller lines go from Dundull to other bus stops.
I added stops on the map for my convenience (my oc's story), now there are 9 stops.
The Fort Pinta line goes : Dundull - Firgrove Village - Silverglade Village - Moorland Stables - Fort Pinta.
The Cape West line goes : Dundull - Silverglade Village - Silverglade Equestrian Center - Cape West Fishing Village.
The Jarlaheim line goes : Dundull - Silverglade Village - Jarlaheim.
The New Hillcrest line goes : Dundull - Silverglade Village - New Hillcrest. I didn't add crescent moon village because the road to go there is atrocious and a bus couldn't go through (the broken bridge at the great thunder....)
I think there shouldn't be a bus stop in Valedale because it's supposed to be this secluded, mysterious village, it wouldn't fit the vibe. Same goes for southhoof, Dino Valley, and wildwood for obvious reasons.
Silverglade has all the bus lines go through it, as it's very central to this part of the island (I could not have the fort Pinta line go there but I had to have it go to moorland stables so I had to)
I think considering the amount of farmer land on the island, maybe we could fuel the buses with biogas (produced from manure and stuff) so that it's better for the environment? and then the line from jorvik city would go until the next hub and only have a stop for Dundull.
while we're here where would there even be room for a hub in Dundull... it could be on the the other end of the tunnel(at least parking for the buses), but it would be annoying to have multiple bus stops for four different lines (five if you count the one going to Jorvik City). firgrove would be a bit better for a hub but it's bad terrain and would get really slippery in winter with buses going through all the time. it needs to be restricted with only one bus line going to it.
I'm thinking that the hub could either be in fort Pinta (the road before the bridge) or silverglade village in a field nearby. what are y'all opinions?
then I would have a line go from fort Pinta to firgrove following the path I drew on the map, just stopping before going to Dundull.

Where in the books do YOU think the Light Ride starts?
In Star Stable Online, the quest you take with the Soul Riders starts at Goldenleaf Stables, takes you up Aideen's Ascent and out through Aideen's Whisper. Pretty straightforward.
Did I miss something in the books? Because from what I can tell, it just says they start "at the stable". Up until that point, the only stable I BELIEVE that has been mentioned is Jorvik Stables. It's the only one they've all been hanging out at together, and Herman is there helping get everyone together for the ride, though it's mentioned he's on the planning committee, so it's not outlandish to think he could have traveled to another stable to help out.

If you want to know more about what is said in the books, plus my stream of conscious ramblings trying to make sense of it all, I'll put my notes below the fold.
So here are my notes from "Jorvik Calling" chapter 11.
Ch 9 Alex says "We should ride to Goldenhills Valley sometime, too. We'll see it when we do the Light Ride" (I believe this is the first and only mention of the Light Ride before Lisa says she's going to join and then the next we hear from her its time for the ride to start)
Start at "the stable" (they don't designate WHICH stable, but up until that point, they've only been hanging out around Jorvik Stables, so I assumed they would start there
Herman is on the planning committee and is there while they get ready to set off
along the way, Lisa mentions she can see Silverglade Manor in the distance
"rode towards the western part of the Northern Mountain Range, just beyond the large Silverglade Manor"
"from the summit, there was a view of Everwind Fields and a glimpse of the lights from Silverglade Village [and castle] beyond it"

Stop at a camp site before the "last stretch" which is described as a narrow glowing path (assumed to be Aideen's Whisper)
Everyone goes through [assumed Aideen's Whisper] alone and camp out for the night on the other side
Light Ride takes place in the Fall, specifically September and is a tradition to honor Aideen's and her light by following in her footsteps, seeking the Flame of Jor, the light that brought life to Jorvik
Now, my assumption has been they start at Jorvik Stables, go through Greendale Forest and take the stone path around to Forgotten Fields. It's not exactly the Northern Mountains, its the Mountain of Jor, but you would see the Manor and the Village in the distance. If they were climbing the Northern Mountains, that would take them above Cauldron Swamp where we can't get to, but the "going towards" could also refer to taking Aideen's Ascent up since it DOES head in that direction. But then, what would be the best path from Jorvik Stables to Goldenleaf Stables to start the ascent there?
Am I overthinking this whole thing because they probably DO start at Goldenleaf Stables, they just don't say it for some reason?
It doesn't really feel like Goldenleaf Stables to Aideen's Whisper would require multiple breaks, but maybe that distance would? The book says the ride covers many miles. The scale of the game is way off of course, but I feel like Goldenleaf to Aideen's whisper wouldn't take more than an hour IRL? Jorvik Stables to Goldenleaf to Aideen's Ascent makes MUCH more sense to span "many miles."
Could I just do whatever I want anyway and host a longer Light Ride for funsies anyway???
