This was an amazing read!

I’m one of those people who tends to ignore race which can be a good and a bad thing. I tend to develop a blind eye when matters of race and equality arise. The real problem is that I am selective about it. Most of the time, when it gets serious, I tend to shy away.

I’ve learnt that you can’t shy away from the problems of the world because they will never shy away from you. They will plague your days and haunt your nights. And the funny part is, when you make it a habit to shy away from the serious, real-life issues of the world, you find them easier to spot so as to be able to run away from them. In that sense, you never truly stay free of them.

Racism is a real issue. Sometimes, those who are guilty of it don’t intentionally use it as a means of discrimination. Most people are guilty of it; I have been guilty of it. Sometimes it’s just as a result of habit, or a joke, or a random comment made. But, all the time it is Racism. And, all the time it is degrading.

Staying in the middle does not ensure immunity. Instead, it gives you a clearer view of all the sickness that surrounds you. Even if we don’t pick a side, a side will eventually pick us. There is power in making a decision.

Remember, the Ladder wasn’t built for one to linger on the rungs.

Racism is real. Racism is wrong. I’ve picked my side. How about you?
